Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 72 : Point 121
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]
Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:
To withhold regarding the fighting between ‘Ali and Mu’aawiyah, ‘Aaishah, Talhah and az-Zubayr. May Allah have mercy upon them all and upon those who are with them. Do not dispute concerning them, and consign their affair to Allah, the Exalted and Most High, for Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Beware of speaking about my Companions and my in-laws” [1] and his saying, “Allah, the Exalted and the Most High, looked upon the people who fought at Badr and said: Do whatever you wish, for I have forgiven you” [2].
NOTES
[1] The hadeeth with this wording is not authentic. However, what is authentic is the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed (radiallaahu anhu), who reports that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said,
“Do not abuse my Companions for, if any of you were to spend gold equal to Uhud in charity, it would not equal a handful of one of them or even half of that.”
Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. trans 5/17/no.22) and Muslim (Eng. trans. 4/1349/no.6168).
[2] Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. trans. 5/212-214/no.318) and Muslim (Eng. trans. 4/1331/no.6087).
