Beware of Self Delusion (al Ghuroor)

من مجالس شيخنا ربيع العامرة بالنصح والتوجيه

كنت عنده يوم الأربعاء بتاريخ ٢١|٤|١٤٣٣ من هجرة

نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
وكان يتكلم على الغرور ويذمه ثم ذكر :
《 عبد الله القصيمي 》
قال : كان رجلا ذكيا جدا له كتابات قوية لو ثبت يمكن يمثل شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية في هذا العصر !
لكنه ( الغرور ) الذي أضله ، فيه غرور شديد ، والله كنت أقرأ له والتمس الغرور في بعض كتاباته .
ولما نصحه بعض العلماء تكبر للغرور الذي فيه وارتد عن الدين .انتهى

From the sittings of Shaykh Rabee full of advice and guidance:

“I was with the shaykh on Wednesday 21/4/1433 AH and he was speaking about self delusion. He was dispraising it and he then made mention of “Abdullah Al-Qaseemi”.

Shaykh Rabee said

“This was an extremely intelligent man who had powerful writings. Had he remained firm, he could well have been like the Shaykh ul Islam ibn Taymiyyah of our times! However, self delusion _(alghuroor)_ is what caused him to stray. He was severely deluded by himself. By Allah, I would read his books and sense self delusion in some of his writings. 

When some of the scholars advised him, he became haughty due to that very same delusion that he had (about himself) and thereafter he apostated and left the Religion.”

This is a lecture that was delivered at the Salafi Publications Conference in 2008.

In it our brother Abu Ishaaq Nadeem Ahsan Shah (حفظه الله تعالى) covers the following topic in a comprehensive manner:

He states, at the beginning of the lecture the following: “…speaking about some of the doubts presented surrounding the Sunnah over time.  This is a very important topic because many Muslims have become corrupted or gone astray after misunderstanding this issue, the issue of following the Sunnah and what it means to follow the Sunnah.  And there were those amongst them who rejected the Sunnah altogether.”

Who is Abu Ishaaq Nadeem Ahsan Shah [hafidhahullaah]?

Abu Ishaaq is our elder British brother of Pakistani origin, residing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He is a graduate from Madeenah University and is well-known for his strong adherence to the Salafi methodology.

Verily the children of Israaeel were Destroyed when they Started Story Telling – Shaykh al-Albaani

One of the Reasons for the Destruction of the Jews :

The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said,
“Verily the children of Israaeel were destroyed when they started story telling”

Shaykh Alalbani said: Said (Ibn Atheer) in An-nihaya:

Meaning they relied upon speech and left off actions. So that was the reason for their destruction. Or vice versa; When they left off actions they were destroyed and then turned to story telling.

So I (Al-Albani) say:

It is possible to say that the reason for their destruction was the importance their preachers gave to story telling and tales and not to fiqh or beneficial knowledge through which people know their religion, what would have carried them towards righteous actions. So when they did that they were destroyed.

So this is the case of many of the story tellers of our era. Those whose speech revolves around Judeo-Christian traditions, heart softeners and sayings of the soofis. And Allah’s safety is sought.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has decreed for every son of Adam his share of zina, which he will inevitably commit. The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking, one may wish and desire, and the private parts confirm that or deny it.” [al-Bukhaari, 5889; Muslim, 2657]

“And come not near to unlawful sex. Verily, it is a Faahishah (i.e. anything that transgresses its limits: a great sin, and an evil way that leads one to hell unless Allaah Forgives him)” [al-Isra’ 17:32]

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allaah is All‑Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)” [al-Noor 24:30-31]

“Allaah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal” [Ghaafir 40:19]

On the 10th Sha’baan 1433 / 30th June 2012 our Shaykh Ahmad ‘Umar Bazmool (حفظه الله تعالى) delivered a beneficial advice to some youth who had come from the UK to make Umrah.

In this lecture the Shaykh mentioned from amongst other things, the following:

  • The commandment of asking the people of knowledge if you do not know.
  • The obligation of seeking knowledge to remove ignorance
  • The importance of being kind to your parents, not even saying “uff” to them
  • Taking care of the parents in old age and seeking their forgiveness
  • Being patient with Allah’s decree and not using it as an excuse to justify his sinning
  • Do an action to the best of your ability in matters of religion and worldly matters
  • Defending the status of women in Islam, responding to false accusations
  • The plots of Shaytaan, the enemy of the believers…

The advice was concluded with the children being given the opportunity to get any questions they had answered by the Shaykh.

Due to time constraints we were unable to put forward all of the questions to our Shaykh.  We will try our best to arrange a second sitting with our Shaykh to put forward the remainder of the questions and any others these children may have.
