Manners and Ettiquetes that the Muslim should Display in the Masjid – Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee [Audio|En]

http://followthesalaf.com

The talk, Manners & Ettiquetes that Every Muslim Should Display in the Masaajid (plural of masjid), was taken from a lecture given by our noble Sheikh, Abdur-Razaaq ibn Abdul-Muhsin al-Abbaad al-Badr, may Allah preserve both of them.

The Messenger, sallallahu alaihi wasallam, informed us that,
“The most beloved places to Allah on earth are the masaajid, and the most hated places to Allah on earth are the markets.” (Muslim)

From the benefits our sheikh has given is from this hadith is that the masaajid are distinguished for the acts of worship performed in them and the goodness they contain; the dhikr of Allah, salah, recitation of the Quran, spreading of the knowledge of the religion… just to name a few.  And the masaajid are places of sakeenah (tranquility).

On the other hand, the market places are totally different.  There people deal with each other in bad ways, often you may find evil transactions taking place, and more than that.  Also the markets are a place of noise, rushing and running.

In this talk, we cover the 14 points of ettiquete regarding attending the masjid.
Did you know that some of them take place even before you leave your home?
So what are the manners and ettiquetes that are upon us to display in these beloved places?  Listen to find out more.

Wife hates that her husband practices polygyny, is she now a Kafirah? – Shaykh Salih Fawzan

Question:

The wife hates that her husband should marry with another woman even though she knows that Allâh has prescribed it and allowed it. Is she now considered to hate something Allâh has prescribed?

Shaykh al-Fawzân:

This question has been posed several times. It is a natural hate, not a religious such. She is not hating that which Allâh has revealed. She is a believer and a Muslim. This is part of the female jealousy. This is the jealousy among the women. It is only part of the natural hate. It is not a hate towards that which Allâh has prescribed. It is only a hate towards the co-wife.

Question:

When a person makes ablution after having answered the call of nature, he feels a drop leave his private-part. What should he do?

Shaykh al-Fawzân:

Those are obsessive thoughts. After having answered the call of nature, he washes or dries and washes himself. He thereafter makes ablution and prays without paying attention to the obsessive thoughts and whether a drop has come out or not. Those are obsessive thoughts one should not care about.

Devil entering via a Person Yawning – Sahih Muslim

The son of Abu Said al-Khudri reported on the authority of his father that Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

When one of you yawns, he should keep his mouth shut with the help of his hand, for it is the devil that enters therein.

What is required of a new Muslim between the period he embraces and openly announces his religion – The Permanent Committee

Question:

Between the period he embraces Islaam and [openly] announces his [embracing of] Islaam, is the new Muslim required to perform the obligatory acts as required of [all] Muslims?

Response:

All Praise be to Allaah alone, and may the prayers and salutations be upon His Messenger and his companions; To proceed:

When a person embraces Islaam, then [as a Muslim] – according to his ability – he is [now] required to gradually learn that which is required of him – as legislated. He is [then] required to act accordingly, and that is from the date he embraced Islaam.

And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.

The difference between Takfir upon a kind and Takfir upon an individual – Shaykh Abdul-Karîm al-Khudhayr

Scholar: ´Allâmah ´Abdul-Karîm bin ´Abdillâh al-Khudhayr
Source: khudheir.com/audio/2596, Reference: Darulhadith.com, aFatwa.com

Question: Does the one who says that the Qur’ân is created apostate?

Shaykh al-Khudhayr:

Salaf did Takfîr upon the one who says that the speech of Allâh is created. This however, is Takfîr upon a kind and not upon an individual. It is for example not said that az-Zamakhsharî was a disbeliever because of him being a Mu’tazilî and Mu’tazilah say that the Qur’ân is created. The opinion [that it is created] is nevertheless disbelief. There is a difference between Takfîr upon a kind and attribute and [the Takfîr] upon an individual. To make Takfîr upon an individual, it is required that the conditions are met while the obstacles are removed.

From the Noble Qur’aan

Allaah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala said:

<< And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well pleased with them, as they are well pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.  >> [1]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Indeed this noble Ayaah is the foundation from where it is necessary for every Muslim to spring forward from to get to know the Dawa’ which some of the scholars, past and present have defined as the ‘DawatusSalafeeyah’.

Whoever truly wants to return to the Book and the Sunnah then it is necessary for that person to return to what the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- were upon, and the Ta’abeen (the successors of the Companions) and the successors of the Ta’abeen.’[2]

Allaah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala said:

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعۡ غَيۡرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصۡلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرًا

<< And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers – We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination. >> [3]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- commented saying:

‘Anybody who intends to be from the Firqat anNajjeeyha (the saved sect)[4] then it is necessary for that person to ascribe himself to the actions of what these people were upon, the Companions and the Ta’abeen and they are the Salaf asSalih whom we follow.

This issue, which is the obligation of following the Salaf asSalih is not an innovated, new matter but rather this is an obligatory matter which has been indicated to, rather it has been mentioned clearly for example in the statement of Allaah – Tabarak wa Ta’ala:

Indeed Allaah mentioned in this Ayaah a severe warning against opposing the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and contending with him then Allaah linked that by saying: << and follows other than the way of the believers>> and there is no doubt that the believers here, are those about whom Allaah –Tabaraka wa Ta’ala– warns the people from amongst the Muslims from opposing the path of the believers, there is no doubt that the believers are those whom were mentioned in the previous Ayaah from the Muhajreen and Ansaar, and those who followed them in goodness.

Indeed Allaah was pleased with them and they were pleased with their Lord. That path of the believers is the scale and measurement which distinguishes between the Muslim who ascribes himself by speech to the Book and the Sunnah, and then perhaps he opposes the Book and the Sunnah by not returning to that perfection, which prevents opposing the Book and the Sunnah and that is none other than adhering to what the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam were upon.’[6]

Who were the Salaf?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Salaf asSalih includes the three generations about whom the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- testified regarding their goodness in a Hadeeth whose authenticity is agreed upon.  Rather this Hadeeth has reached the level of Mutawwatir due its many chains in the Saheeh of Muslim and other than them from a great deal of the Companions, that the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

خير الناس قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم .

‘The best people are my generation then those who will come after them and then those after them…….’

So the three generations whose goodness has been testified are the ones who are intended by being the Salaf asSalih.’[7]

‘’Al-Qalshaani said:

‘The Salaf asSalih were the first generations deeply rooted upon knowledge, guided with the guidance of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, preservers of his Sunnah, Allaah Ta’ala chose them for the companionship of his Prophet. Allaah selected them to establish His Deen and was pleased with them to be the Imams of the Ummah, and they rightfully fought Jihad in the path of Allaah, they exerted themselves in advising the Ummah and benefiting them and they sacrificed themselves for the pleasure of Allaah.

Allaah praised them in His Book by saying:

مُّحَمَّدٞ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ

<< Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. >>[8]

And the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

<< For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allaah and [His] approval and supporting Allaah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful. >> [9]

Allaah Ta’ala mentioned the Muhajirun and the Ansar in the Ayaat, then he praised their followers, and He was pleased with those who came after them for following them.

Allaah promised those who opposed the Salaf and those who followed other than their way with punishment, Allaah said:

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعۡ غَيۡرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصۡلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرًا

<< And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers – We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.>>[10]

Therefore it is obligatory to follow them in that which they narrated, to follow their footsteps in that which they acted upon, and seeking forgiveness for them, Allaah Ta’ala said:

<< And those who came after them say: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.’ >>[11] ’[12]

‘’As-Safaarini (d. 1188 A.H) said:

‘The meaning of the Madhab of the Salaf is that which the noble Companions Radi Allaahu anhum were upon and the eminent ones from the Taba’een who followed the Companions in goodness, and those that followed them, and the Imams of the Deen from those who were testified as being Imams. Their great status was known from the Deen, and the people have accepted their speech generation after generation, without them having been accused of Bida’, or having become famous with a title which is not acceptable, the likes of the Khawarij, Rawafid, Qadareeyah, Murji’ah, Jabareeyah, Jahmaeeyah, Mu’atazilah, Karameeyah and those similar to them.’[13]

‘’Muhammad bin Ahmad as-Safaarini (d. 1188 A.H) also said:

‘The indication to the Madhab of the Salaf and a clarification of its reality, and that the Madhab of the Salaf is safer out of the other Madhahib[14], it is more knowledgeable and wiser, and they are the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun). Likewise the rest of the Companions of the chosen Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and those who followed them in goodness, and the Imams of guidance, they are those upon whom the Muslims agree regarding their guidance, their understanding, and their precedence, and taking them as an example and to follow them, and follow their way, and take the same methodology as them. Indeed Allaah –Subhana wa Ta’ala– sent His Prophet, His beloved and His Messenger Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- with guidance and the true Deen, to take the people out of darkness to light by the permission of their Lord to the praiseworthy, noble path. Allaah testified for him that He Himself sent the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- as a caller to Allaah with His permission and a guiding light and with His command, Allaah said:

هَٰذِهِۦ سَبِيلِيٓ أَدۡعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا۠ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِيۖ

<< This is my way; I invite to Allaah with insight, I and those who follow me. >> [15]’[16]

The Scholars of the Past & Present used the Terminology ‘Salaf

The Linguistic Meaning:

‘’Majd ad-Deen Ibn al-Atheer (d. 606 A.H.) said:

‘The Salaf of a person is the one who preceded in death from ones fathers, and those related to him; and this is why the first generation of the Taba’een were called the Salaf asSalih.’[17]

‘’Imam Muhammad bin Isma’eel al-Bukhari (d. 256 A.H.) said:

‘Rashid bin Sa’ad said: ‘The Salaf used to like the stallion from the camels because it would be faster on a journey.’[18]

‘’From Imam Muslim bin al-Hajjaj al-Nisapuree (d. 261 A.H.) in his ‘Saheeh’:

Ibn Mubarak used to say in front of large gatherings: ‘Leave ‘Amr bin Thaabit because he used to curse the Salaf, i.e. the Companions.’

‘’Imam Bukhari mentioned a chapter heading in his ‘Saheeh’:

Chapter: What the Salaf used to store in their homes and their journeys from food and meat.’

‘’AbdurRahmaan bin ‘Amr al-Aawza’i (d.156 A.H.) said:

‘Be patient upon the Sunnah, stop where the Companions stopped, and say what they said, and keep away from what they kept away from, and follow the way of your Salaf asSalih, since what is sufficient for them is sufficient for you.’[19]

Ascribing to the Manhaj of the Salaf

‘’Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘There is no blame on the one who manifests the Madhab of the Salaf, affiliates to it and ascribes to it, rather it is obligatory to accept that from him and that is accepted by agreement, because the Madhab of the Salaf is nothing except the truth.’[20]

‘’Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Uthmaan ad-Dhahabi (d.748 A.H.)

asSalafi [21]– is he who is upon the Madhab of the Salaf.’[22]

‘’ Salih bin Fawzan al-Fawzan said:

‘Indeed the Jamaah asSalafeeyah is the one which is upon the truth, and it is the one that it is obligatory to ascribe to, and act and attribute to, and whichever Jama’aat (parties) is upon other than Jama’ah asSalafeeyah then do not regard them as Jama’aat of Dawa’[23]

‘’Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

asSalafeeyah is following the methodology of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and his Companions, because he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- is from our Salaf. The Companions are those who preceded us, therefore following them is Salafeeyah.’[24]

‘’Abdul Azeez bin Abdullaah Bin Baz (d. 1420 A.H.) said:

‘Indeed the Salaf are those of the best generations.  So whoever follows their footsteps and continues upon their methodology then he is a Salafi. Whoever opposes the Salaf in this methodology then he is from the Khalaf (those who oppose the Salaf).[25]

The Necessity of the Title ‘Salafeeyah’ to Distinguish from AhlulBida’

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Indeed all the sects, no matter how close or how far they are from the Book and the Sunnah, it is not possible for any one of them to say, ‘I am upon the Manhaj of the Salaf  -due to an excellence from Allaah – Azza wa Jal – except for those who embody the Manhaj of the Salaf asSalih in their Dawa’, Manhaj and manners. . .’[26]

‘’Ubayd bin Abdullaah al- Jabiree said:

‘So you do not find a Khalafee (one who opposes Salafeeyah), especially from those who ascribe themselves to the modern day Dawa’ groups, except that he hates the ascription to Salafeeyah.  Because Salafeeyah is not just an ascription, rather Salafeeyah is singling out pure sincerity for Allaah and singling out following the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’[27]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Why don’t the Salafeeyoon leave these titles?’

 ‘’Al-Albaani -Rahimullaah- answered:

‘If you leave off the ascription to so and so Hizb (party), and to such and such Hizb, and leave off the ascription to such and such Madhab (school of thought) then at that time we can say we are Muslims.  As for these names then they exemplify divisions in this Ummah due to current ideologies and biasness to Madhahib.

Therefore, there is nothing wrong, if we say: we will gather all these ascriptions into one ascription and this is not possible for anyone from those people (those who follow Madhahib and Ahazaab[28]) – if they have knowledge of the truth that they can dispute whether that the DawatusSalafeeyah is the true Dawa’ or not, and as proof for this we use the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

>> [29] ’[30]

Is Not Using the Title ‘Salafeeyah’ Praising Oneself?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘He does not understand the meaning of ‘Salafeeyah’ the one who says that this is praising oneself.

Salafeeyah means the correct Islaam, so the one who says: ‘I am a Muslim’ or ‘my Deen is Islaam’ is just like the one who says: ‘I am a Salafi….’[31]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

DawatuSalafeeyah wages war against alHizbeeyah (partisanship) in all its different forms.  The reason is very clear, DawatusSalafeeyah affiliates to a infallible individual, and he is the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, therefore, whosoever deviates away from these people (The Salaf) then we do not call him a Salafi.’[32]

‘’Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

‘Is it possible to be upon Salafeeyah in our modern times? Yes it is possible, we say that it is Salafeeyah in Aqeedah, even though it is not Salafeeyah as a time period, because the Salaf have preceded in time, however Salafeeyah are those who are upon the SalafeeyahAqeedah, ‘Aqeedah and action in the current time, and they are in respect to those after them, the Salaf.’[33]

Why the Ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Why the ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah, or a sect, or Madhab, or is it a new group in Islaam?’

He answered:

‘Indeed the word ‘as-Salaf’ is well known in the Arabic language, and in the Sharia’, and what is important to us here is the research from the Sharia’ point of view.  It has been authentically reported from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that he said to Sayyidah Fatima Radi Allaahu anhu during the illness from which he died:

فاتقي الله ، واصبري ، فإنه نعم السلف أنا لك

‘Fear Allaah and be patient, for indeed I am a blessed Salaf for you.[34]’

The scholars have used this word ‘asSalaf’ a lot, and it has been used so much more than can be enumerated, it is sufficient for us to use one example, and that is what we need to fight against Bida’:

كل خير في إتباع  من  سلف  وكل  شر في إتباع  من  خلف

Every good is in the following of the Salaf * and every evil is in the innovations of the Khalaf[35]

However, there are those who claim to have knowledge who reject this ascription, claiming that it does not have any foundation, so they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say ‘I am a Salafi’.  It is as if they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say: ‘I follow the Salaf asSalih of what they are upon of ‘Aqeedah, worship and manners!’

There is no doubt that this type of rejection – if this is what they mean – necessitates being free from the correct Islaam which our Salaf asSalih were upon, and at the head of them is the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- as is indicated in the Mutawatir Hadeeth which is in Bukhari, Muslim and in other books, from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

‘The best people are my generation then those who will come after them and then those after them.’

Therefore it is not allowed for the Muslim to free himself from the ascription to the Salaf asSalih, whereas if a Muslim freed himself from any other ascription, then it would not be possible for anyone from the people of knowledge to ascribe them to Kufr or Fasooq (openly sinning)[36].

And this person who rejects this ascription, don’t you see that he himself ascribes to a Madhab from the Madhahib?! Whether this Madhab was connected to ‘Aqeedah or to Fiqh?

So he is either an Ashaari or a Matroodi, or either he is from the AhlulHadeeth, or Hanafi, or Shafia’i, or Maliki, or Hanbali from those who enter into the title of AhlulSunnah wal Jammah. Even though he who ascribes to the Ashaari Madhab or to the four Madhahib then he ascribes to people who are without doubt not infallible, even though there are some from those scholars who are probably on the correct way, however I wish they had rejected the likes of these ascriptions to individuals who are not infallible.

As for the one who ascribes to the Salaf asSalih, then he ascribes to that which is in general infallible, and indeed the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- mentioned that from the signs of the ‘Firqat anNajeeha’ is that they adhere to that which the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam was upon and what the Companions were upon, so whoever adhered to it is with certainty upon guidance from his Lord.

Without doubt the clear, manifest, distinguished, evident proof of this title and ascription, which is to say: I am a Muslim upon the Book and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of our Salaf asSalih, and that is to summarise it by saying: ‘I am a Salafi’.’[37]

The Ascription to Other Jamaa’aat

Ascription to Naqshbandeeyah

‘This Tareeqa (way) ascribes itself to Muhammad Baha-uddeen Shah Naqshband.  The ascription for this Tareeqa[38] is from his name and it has became known with that. He was born in the village of Bukhara (717 – 791 A.H)’

‘He was given the title of Naqshband because of a print of the word ‘Allaah’ engraved upon the front of his heart, due to a lot of remembrance of Allaah.

It has been said he was called Naqshband, because the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- placed his noble palm on the heart of shaykh Muhammad Baha-uddeen al-Awaysee Naqshband, so it became engraved on his heart.’

‘Ahmad al-Farooqi as-Sarhindi (1034 A.H.) revived and spread the Tareeqa in India.’[39]

Ascription to Deobandeeyah

The definition of ‘Dar al-Uloom ad-Deobandeeyah’ according to them:

‘Dar al-Uloom is Muslim in their religion, of the AhlulSunnah wal Jammah sect, of a Hanafi Madhab, drinking hole is Soofeeyah, Matroodeeyah Ashaareeyah in philosophy, Chishteeyah in methodology, rather it gathers all the different succession of groups, Wali al-illaheyya in thought, Qasameeyah in principle, Rasheedeeyah as a subdivision, Deobandeeyah in ascription’[40]

‘ad-Deobandeeyah is a group from the Hanafis in the Indian Sub-continent and other places.  They follow the path of the Deoband University and their ascription is to this University, and that was to distinguish from their brothers ‘the Brailaweeyah’ one of the sects of the Hanafis, who ascribe to a Imam of Bida’, Ahmad Rida Khan al-Brialweeyah, who was born in the city of ‘Brieelee’ a city in the state of Uttra Pardesh in India in the year 1272 A.H. and died in the year 1340 A.H.

‘Deoband’ is a town in the state of Uttra Pardesh it achieved its fame due to the famous Islamic University called ‘Dar al-Uloom’ which was founded in 1283 A.H. and this University without doubt is regarded as a pride and honour for that town.

The fundamental aim of establishing this University was to support the Hanafi Madhab (School of thought) and spreading it, and to subjugate the Prophetic Sunnah and to make the Sunnah follow the Hanafi Fiqh, and there is no exaggeration in the reality of this point, since even the senior scholars of Deoband have acknowledged this.’[41]

‘’Muhammad Yusuf al-Banoori one of the leaders of the Deoband said explaining the way of the Deoband and their Madhab:

‘The way of the Deoband which their senior scholars are upon is the affirmation of the leadership of the Faqeeh of the Ummah, the Imam Abu Hanifah with respect to his Fiqh and his Ijtihad which has a lofty status in the pure Sharia’ after the noble Prophetic Hadeeth.

And it is necessary to have the sciences of Soofeeyah and sciences of purification of the hearts which is transmitted by its people, and it needs to be blended with the Sharia’ in a correct way.

They acknowledge the magnificence of Ibn Taymeeyah’s[42] status but at the same time they acknowledge the greatest Shaykh Muhiddeen ibn Arabi[43] with his book ‘Kamallat’.  So we have Taqleed of the Imam Abu Hanifah, and follow the Prophetic Ahadeeth along with the sciences of the Soofeeyah, and what is made up of this blend of three is the magnificent Madhab[44], which is none other than the Madhab of the sect Deobandeeyah.’[45]

Ascription to Jama’at Tableegh

The Founder of Jama’at Tableegh

‘’Abdullaah bin Mubarak al-Qahtani said:

‘Muhammad Ilyaas al-Kandalawi is regarded as the founder of the Tableeghi sect and he was the one who made the fundamental principles for the sect. Muhammad Ilyaas took it in turn and acquired it from Sa’eed an-Nursi who was called Badeea’ az-Zaman an-Nursi[46] (1293 A.H. – 1379 A.H.) in Turkey. So the foundation of the ideology was from Turkey, and it grew and was brought up and implemented and propelled from India.’[47] [48]

Ascription to Soofeeyah

‘’Salih bin Fawzan al-Fawzan was asked:

‘What is the ruling of ascribing to the Soofi Madhab, and do we make Takfeer (excommunication) of the Soofeeyah?’

He answered:

‘It is not allowed to ascribe to an innovated Madhab of the Soofeeyah, or other than the Soofeeyah. It is not allowed for the Muslim to follow the Mubtadia’ (the innovators) whether from the Soofeeyah or other than the Soofeeyah, but rather he has to follow the Madhab of the AhlulSunnah.  It is not possible for the Muslim to follow the Madhab of AhlulSunnah except if he learns and knows the Madhab of AhlulSunnah and knows the Madhaahib of the Mubtadia’, and this is not possible except with knowledge.

As for the ignorant person, then it is not possible for him to keep away from the Madhaahib of the Mubtadia’ because he does not know who they are, and perhaps he deems them as being appropriate and thinks that they are good, therefore ignorance is corruption and an illness.

The Soofeeyah are not all of the same grades, there are those from them who reach to the level of Shirk, and from them are those who are only Mubtadia’, and from them there is the one who is a Mushrik, who makes Dua’ to the dead rather than to Allaah, and who seeks aid from graves, and who makes Dua’ to his Shaykhs and believes that they can benefit him or harm him, and that they control the universe.

The Soofeeyah are of different types, they are not just one type.  Some of them are just Mubtadia’, and some of them are Mushrikoon.  Some of them are apostates, and they are the AhlulWahdatulWajood (those who believe in unity of existence) those who are upon the Madhab of al-Hallaj, Ibn Arabi, Ibn Saba’een and Talmasaani, and they are the ones who are extremists in their Kufr (disbelief) of the people on this earth the people of WahdatulWajood (those who believe in unity of existence). Likewise are the Mushrikoon who supplicate to other than Allaah, were they supplicate to their Shaykhs and their chiefs, they also supplicate to the dead, and they turn for help to graves, and this is Shirk.’[49]

The Stance of the Scholars of AhlulSunnah against the Ascription to the Soofi paths

The Fatwa of ‘Lajna Daeema lilbahooth al-Ilmeeyah wal-Iftaa’[50]

The question:

There is a (Soofee path) way which is ascribed to Shaykh Abdul Qadir and Abul-Hasan ash-Shaadhlee, is there a problem if a person joins it and ascribes himself to it and is it Sunnah or Bida’?

The Answer:

‘The Hadeeth collected by Abu Dawood and other than him from the collectors of the Sunnan from Al-Irbadh bin Sariah who said: the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. We said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so advise us.’

He sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallamsaid:

أوصيكم بتقوى الله ، والسمع والطاعة ، وإن تأمّر عليكم عبد ؛ فإنه من يعش منكم فسيرى اختلافا كثيرا ، فعليكم بسنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين ، عضّوا عليها بالنواجذ ، وإياكم ومحدثات الأمور ، فإن كل بدعة ضلالة

‘I advise you to fear Allaah and to hear and obey even if a slave becomes your leader. Verily he among you who lives [long] will see great differences, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Khulafah – cling to them stubbornly. Beware of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a going astray.’[51]

The Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned that there will occur many differences in his Ummah, and they will branch off into paths and methodologies, and there will occur many Bida’ and superstitions amongst them.

The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered the Muslims to adhere to the Book of Allaah and to hold onto his Sunnah and to bite onto it with the molar teeth, and warn them against dividing up and differences, and following Bida’ and superstitions because it is misguidance and straying which causes the one who follows these paths to separate away from the Path of Allaah, so Allaah advised them with what He advised His slaves with the saying of Allaah Subhanahu:

وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعٗا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْۚ

<< And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. >>[52]

and the saying of Allaah:

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطِي مُسۡتَقِيمٗا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ ٱلسُّبُلَ
فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمۡ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ وَصَّىٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ

<< And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)>>[53].

So we advise you with the advice of Allaah and the advice of His Messenger, and we advise you to adhere to the Manhaj of AhlulSunnah walJama’, and we warn you against what the people of these Soofi paths who innovated Soofeeyah and innovated supplications and remembrance which is not legislated and supplications which contain Shirk with Allaah or that which leads towards Shirk, like seeking refuge with other than Allaah, remembering Allaah with single names (i.e. like saying ‘Allaah hu’ etc.), and remembering Allaah using the word ‘Aah’ which is not from His –Subhanahu– Names, and how they seek closeness to their Shaykhs by making Dua’ through them, and they believe that their Shaykhs are spies of the hearts and they know what will occur in the future. Their remembrance of Allaah as a collective remembrance with one unison voice in gatherings while swaying & dancing around with AnNasheed (musical songs), along with other things which are not known from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’[54]

All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his Family, his Companions and all those who  follow his guidance

[43] Some statements about Ibn Arabi:

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ahmad bin AbdulHaleem Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘…these Philosophers perhaps thought that [Angel] Jibra’eel is an imaginary thought which formed itself in the Prophet’s -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- soul, and imagination follows the intellect. Then came along the Mulahidah ([Atheists] – Those who either reject the existence of Allaah or reject the resurrection), who associated and participated with these Mulahidah al-Mutafalsifah ([Atheistic philosophers] – those who combine the Sharia’ with Greek Philosophy), and they claimed that they were the ‘Awaliyaa (Friends) of Allaah, and that the ‘Awaliyaa of Allaah are better than the Prophets of Allaah, and that they take from Allaah without having an intermediary [like Angel Jibra’eel] like Ibn ‘Arabi…. Indeed Ibn ‘Arabi and his likes, even if they claim to be from the Soofeeyah, but they are from the Soofeeyah Mulahidah al-Mutafalsifah and they are not from the Soofeeyah people of knowledge, let alone being from the Mushaykh of the people of the Book and the Sunnah…’ [Fatawa 11/232]

Ibn Taymeeyah also said:

‘… and the issue with the Mulahidah al-Mutasoweefah  ([Atheistic Soofees] – Those who either reject the existence of Allaah or reject the resurrection) like Ibn ‘Arabi and his likes – was such that they reached to the level were they regarded everything in existence as one. So they regarded the existence of the Creator is the actual existence of the creation [i.e. the Creator and the creation are one and the same thing], and this is cancelling out the Creator.’ [Dura Ta’arad 5/4]

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Uthmaan ad-Dhahabi (d.748 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Indeed the one who ponders over the statements of Ibn ‘Arabi in his book ‘Fasoos’ is one of two people; either from the al-Iteehaadeeyah (those who believe that Allaah is a part of His creation, in union with His creation) inwardly, or from those who truly believe in Allaah and regard [Ibn ‘Arabi & his likes] this sect to be from the most extreme in disbelief.’ [Meezan al-I’tidaal 3/659]

[44] Which opposes the way of the Salaf.

The Religion is not left up to the intellects of men and their opinions – Sharhu Sunnah

The Religion is ‘not left up to the intellects of men and their opinions’
From Shaykh Fawzaan’s hafizahullaah explanation of Sharh-us-Sunnah
Translated by Abu Talhah rahimahullaah

From Shaykh Fawzaan‘s hafidhahullaah explanation of Sharh-us-Sunnah (lesson 6)

His saying, “It was not left up to the intellects of men and their opinions.”

The Religion is not what men deem to be good or what they hold as their opinion, because this is not the Religion of Allaah. This is the Religion of the people, which they have newly invented. As for the Religion of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic, then it is what He legislated.  As for that which the men hold as their opinion, based upon their own opinions, this is not the Religion of Allaah the Perfect and Most High.  Rather it is just a religion of whoever holds that opinion. So nothing can be ascribed to Allaah from the Religion except that which He legislated upon the tongue of His Messenger sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam. And as for what others besides Him legislated, then it cannot be ascribed to Allaah, rather it can only be ascribed to whoever legislated it, and Allaah is free of it.  He the Most High said:

أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاء شَرَعُوا لَهُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَن بِهِ اللَّهُ

Do they have partners who legislate for them religion which Allaah has not permitted (Sooratush-Shooraa (42), aayah 21)

His saying, “And its knowledge is with Allaah and His Messenger sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam. The affairs of the Religion are towqeefiyyah (depend upon text); there must be proofs from Allaah and His Messenger with regard to the affairs of the Religion. The matter is restricted to what occurs in the Book and the Sunnah from the affairs of the Religion. And newly introduced matters and innovations are abandoned, that which Allaah has not sent down any proof for – even if their people hold them to be religion, and they draw closer to Allaah through them, then we turn no attention to these things and we do not believe in them, because the Religion of Allaah is what He legislated and His Messenger.

Because the Religion is based upon knowledge which came from Allaah and His Messenger. And do not follow the desires of the people and the opinions of the people and what they declare to be good and what they follow each other upon, and it has no basis in the Book of Allaah or the Sunnah of His Messenger sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam. Just as he `alayhis-salaatu was-salaam said:

“Whoever introduces into this affair of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected.”

And in one narration:

“Whoever does an action which our affair is not in accordance with, it is rejected”[1]

So the person who wishes that his action be righteous and be beneficial, then he should adhere to two matters:

The first matter: is that he makes his Religion pure for Allaah and free from shirk.

And the second matter: ittibaa` following the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, free of innovations and newly introduced affairs.

A person will indeed find many things which contradict what is correct in the `aqeedah, matters which contradict what is correct in matters of worship, many of them; (because) the people have desires, and have their own aspirations, and they have  their own opinions and they have their own ways (which  they follow). So we do not follow the people, rather we present whatever the people are upon to the Book and the Sunnah. So whatever conforms with the Book and the Sunnah then it is the Truth, and whatever contradicts these two then it is false and futile.

The Sly Heretic – Sayings of the Salaf

It is reported that Mufaddal b. Muhalhal – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

If the heretic started mentioning his bid’ah right at the beginning of the sitting, you would be on your guard and flee from him, but what he does is begin by mentioning hadīth from the Sunnah. Then, he slips his bid’ah in on you. It might then stick to your heart; but when will it leave your heart?

Writing ‘Ya Allaah & Ya Muhammad’ – Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadee

by Rabee’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The Question:

A lot of what we see in certain Masajid is ‘Ya Allaah & Ya Muhammad’ (O Allaah & O Muhammad) written on the Mihrab, is it permissible to pray in the likes of these Masajid?

The answer:

This is clear from what we have seen in Pakistan and Afghanistan – with great regret – I swear by Allaah we saw this written in the cars of the Mujahideen; actually those who claim to be Mujahideen! And they would not accept any advice, they would continue upon these aspects of Shirk! You would see it written in their shops and their Masajid: ‘Ya Allaah, Ya Ali, Ya Ghawth, Ya Hussain, Ya AbdulQadir, Ya such and such!!’ as well as other aspects of Shirk!

Seeking aid from other than Allaah is Shirk; by saying ‘Ya Muhammad’, then this is committing Shirk with Allaah (associating partners to Allaah). Muhammad was the Messenger of Allaah, the slave of Allaah and His Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam. Therefore, if one says ‘Ya Allaah and Ya Muhammad’, then that person has made Muhammad as an equal to Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala.

The Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- did not come except to destroy this polytheism, and to rectify the deviated nation and at the head of what they had was committing Shirk (associating) with Allaah -Azza wa Jal. The Messenger came to purify the Dunyaa, the hearts, the minds and intellects from Shirk with Allaah –Azza wa Jal- and the filth connected with Shirk.

He –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- taught us pure Tawheed with the texts of the Qur’aan, the texts of the Sunnah and practically implementing them. He –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- ordered us to level the graves, and to destroy idols.

The Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- said:

‘Do not undertake journeys except to three Masajid – only these, not to graves, nor any place [for worship] – the Masjid al-Haraam, and this masjid of mine, and Masjid al-Aqsa.’

This is because these Masajid were built by the Prophets for the Tawheed of Allaah having Ikhlaas (Sincerity) of the Deen for Allaah – Azza wa Jal.

This action of writing ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ began in al-Madinah – since we know these things we can evaluate it – we knew the plots of the Ahl-ul-Bida’.

There was a man named Siraaj Rahman a colleague of mine in the University and he was from the students of Abul-Hasan an-Nadawi – I don’t know whether – I saw this in Kenya or a story had been narrated to him that this had begun to spread in al-Madinah. Anyway, he mentioned that Abul-Hasan an-Nadawi said the statement: ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ and this is disbelief, what they mean by this is that Muhammad is a partner to Allaah –Azza wa Jal; Allaah & Muhammad are equal.

There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; this is the highest status for this Noble Prophet –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam.

The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

‘Do not over praise me, like the Christians over praised the son of Maryam. Indeed I am a slave of Allaah and His Messenger.’

I have seen this clearly and I would have waged war against it, and if I saw it in a Masjid I would advise the Imam of the Masjid. Likewise in Masjid al-Qiblatayn – Masjid al-Amoodi -, I spoke to the Imam, but he did not do anything! So I spoke to al-Amoodi who was responsible for the Masjid, and he hastened – may Allaah reward him with goodness- and effaced these things.

And in the Masjid near my home in al-Madina they had written ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ so I advised the Imam and he said: ‘we will change it, we will change it.’ But he kept postponing it and did not change it! There was a good young man present who said: ‘I’ll sort it out.’ Then he went and covered it, and that was the end of that, and all praise be to Allaah.

One day I was coming from Batthan and entered Madinah and there was a pickup truck in front of me and it had ‘Ya Allaah Ya Muhammad’ written on it in red. So I followed him and he began speeding up, he noticed that I was following him, so he began to speed up even more, so I gave chase and pursued him until we reached Qurban, he stopped his car and got out and said to me: ‘Shall I wipe it off?’ and I hadn’t even spoken to him yet! He knew and felt this is what I was pursuing him about, so I told him ‘Yes, wipe it off.’

This confirms that there is a battle going on, the battle of these grave worshipping deviants in the land of Tawheed!

al-Haa’iyyah Poem of Ibn Abee Dawood – Text & Video

Text below: [Arabic Text Download Here]

(1) Hold tightly to the rope of Allaah and the guidance,
And do not be an innovator, so that you might be successful.

(2) And practice your religion based on the Book of Allaah and the Sunan which
have come from the Messenger of Allaah so you will be saved and earn reward.

(3) And say: Not a created thing is the Speech of our great King,
Such was the religious position of the pious ones (before us) which they clearly expressed.

(4) And do not be a person who takes no position on the Quran,
As did the followers of Jahm, and they had been too lax (to take the right position).

(5) And do not say that the Quran is created, meaning: its recitation,
Since the Speech of Allaah, through its recitation, is made clear.

(6) And say: Allaah will make himself visible to the creation, openly,
Just as the full moon is not hard to see, and your Lord (will be seen) more clearly.

(7) And He was not born, nor has He fathered anyone,
Nor is there anything similar to Him, exalted be the Glorified One.

(8) A Jahmee rejects this, however, we have
As a testimony to the truth of what we say – a hadeeth that clarifies it.

(9) Jareer narrated it, from the words of Muhammad,
So say what he said about that, and you will be successful.

(10) And certainly a Jahmee will deny His Right Hand as well,
While both of His Hands are giving out all kinds of bounties.

(11) And say: The Ever-Compelling descends each night,
Without asking how, magnificent is the One God and most worthy of praise.

(12) Down to the lowest heaven, granting bounties from His Grace,
As the gates of the heavens are opened and spread widely.

(13) He says: Is there anyone seeking forgiveness who would like to meet a Forgiver?
Or anyone seeking bounties of goodness and provisions, so he could be given (what he requests)?

(14) A group have reported this whose reports are not to be rejected,
But sadly some have went wrong and did not believe them, marring themselves.

(15) And say: Indeed the best of the people after Muhammad
Were his two deputies of old, and then ‘Uthmaan, according to the most correct position.

(16) And the fourth of them was the best of creation after them,
‘Alee, the companion of goodness, through goodness he was successful.

(17) Those are the people, those who we have no doubt about,
Upon the great camels of Firdows, shining brightly and roaming about.

(18) Sa’eed, Sa’d, Ibn ‘Awf, Talhah,
Aamir of Fihr, and Zubayr the praiseworthy.

(19) And speak with the best terms about the Companions, all of them,
And do not be one who speaks ill of them, pointing out their faults and criticizing,

(20) Since the clear Revelation has spoke of their excellence,
And in (Soorah) al-Fath are verses about the Companions, praising them.

(21) And regarding the pre-ordained Qadr, be convinced, since it is
The pillar that combines many affairs of the Religion, and the Religion encompasses much.

(22) And do not reject, out of ignorance, (belief in) Nakeer and Munkar,
Or the Pool or the Scales, surely you are being advised sincerely.

(23) And say: Allaah, the Great, will remove, from of His Grace,
Out of the Fire, people, burned severely, who will then be tossed

(24) Into the river in Firdows, wherein they will regain life by its water,
Like a seed taken by a flood that comes and wipes things away with its abundant water.

(25) And surely, the Messenger of Allaah will intercede for the creation.
And speak about the punishment of the grave, that it is the truth, made clear.

(26) And do not make takfeer of those who pray, even if they commit sins,
Since all of them commits sins, while the Owner of the Throne forgives graciously.

(27) And do not hold a belief like that of the Khawaarij, for it is
A position held by only those who desire it, and it is destructive and disgraceful.

(28) And do not be a Murji’, one who plays games with his religion,
Surely, the Murji’ is joking about the religion (ie. not taking it seriously).

(29) And say: Eemaan (faith) consists of statements, intentions (i.e. belief of the heart)
And Actions, according to the explicit statement of the Prophet.

(30) And it decreases sometimes, due to disobedience, and sometimes
Because of obedience it grows, and on the Scale it will outweigh (other things).

(31) And keep yourself from the opinions of people and their stances,
Since the stance of the Messenger of Allaah is more befitting and comforting to the chest.

(32) And do not be from those who play games with their religion,
Attacking the people of hadeeth and reviling them.

(33) If you keep the belief contained within this poem all your life, O my companion,
You will be upon goodness, day and night.

Ruling regarding women’s sports | Imâm Ibn Bâz

Question: What is the ruling regarding women’s sports?

Shaykh Ibn Bâz:

It varies. It is permissible if it occurs only among women in a way that does not contradict the Sharî’ah. An example of it is running in a place that is separate for women and [a place] that men can’t visit. Another example is swimming in their houses or in swimming pools where no men can visit. If the men neither can see them or come in contact with them, the deed [would then be] allowed.

But if the deed is practiced by both men and women together or that the men see the women or that there are factors that harm the Muslims, the deed would then not be considered as allowed. Thus, this matter is detailed.

It is namely allowed if the deed is specific for women and no sins occur while it does not occur mixedly with men such that the place is hidden and distant from the men. This is concerning running, swimming and other competitions.

The Jinn’s possession of human beings is an established fact and reality attests to it – Imam Ibn Baz

Explaining the truth of the possibility of Jinn entering the human body and refuting the claims of those denying this [1]

Source :  Fatwas of Ibn Baaz rahimahullaah – alifta.net

The Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah be merciful to him) also said in (vol.24, pp. 276-277) the following: The existence of Jinn is affirmed in the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him), and according to the consensus of the Salaf (Righteous Predecessors) of this Ummah and its leading scholars. Similarly the fact that the Jinn can enter human bodies is confirmed by the consensus of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah. Allah (the Exalted states) says: Those who eat Ribâ (usury) will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaitân (Satan) leading him to insanity.”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said in the Sahih (authentic) Hadith related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Satan circulates in the human body as blood does.”

`Abdullah the son of Al-Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said:

“I told my father that some people claim that Jinn can never enter the body of a person. He said, ‘O my son, they tell lies. Satan can even speak on the tongue of those whom he possesses.'”

The Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“What he [Imam Ahmad] said is self-evident. The Jinn may possess someone and cause them to speak a language he does not even know. A possessed person may be violently beaten, in a way that even a camel may not endure, yet he neither feels the beating nor is aware of the words he says.” Furthermore, the possessed person may drag a non-possessed person and or the mat he is sitting on, moves things from a place to another, and other practices that confirmed to those who witnessed such behavior that the one who spoke or moved was not a human being.

Then he said: “None of the leading Muslim scholars denied the ability of Jinn to enter the body of a human being. Whoever denies this fact and assumes that Shari`ah denies it has fabricated lies against Shari`ah, as there is no Shari`ah-based evidence that denies this fact.”

(End of quote)

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah be merciful to him) mentioned the following in his book, Zad Al-Ma`ad fi Hadiy Khayr Al-`Ibad, vol. 4, pp. 66-69:

“There are two types of Jinn’s possession of human beings:

– Possession caused by earthly malicious spirits; and
– the other caused by filthy mixtures.

As for the second type, it is the domain of physicians to find what causes it and how to treat it.

Concerning the possession by spirits, the knowledgeable persons among them acknowledge its existence and do not deny it. They also admit that its treatment should be by confronting the celestial, benevolent and honorable spirits with that wicked and malicious ones to ward off the evil they cause and forestall their acts. This is even stated by Hippocrates in some of his books, as he mentioned some cures for possession. However, he said that his cure is only beneficial in case of possession caused by mixture of filthy blends, but not for that caused by evil spirits.

Whereas, ignorant, worthless and disreputable physicians deny the possession by spirits and do not admit that they affect the body of the possessed person relying on no evidence to support their claims. They are only ignorant, as there is no medical proof to prove the impermissibility of this matter. The Jinn’s possession of human beings is an established fact and reality attests to it. However, the physicians’ denial of possession and ascribing this to the occurrence of some filthy blends is partially, not completely true.

Ignorant and atheist doctors started to attribute the possession of human beings as caused only by filthy blends, but anyone with the least knowledge of such spirits and how they affect the body of the possessed will be astonished at the ignorance of such people and the weakness of their perception of such matters.

In the same article Shaykh Ibn Baaz refutes the one who denies Jinn Possession  as below

All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his Companions, and those who follow his guidance.

Some short and long articles were published in local newspapers and others in the month of Sha`ban of this year (1407 A.H.) regarding the declaration of some Jinn (creatures created from fire) who possessed Muslim women in Riyadh. They declared that they had become Muslims before me after they had declared this before brother `Abdullah ibn Mushrif Al-`Umary who lives in Riyadh.

Al-`Umary recited some Adhkar (invocations) on the Jinn-possessed lady and talked to the Jinni, reminding him of Allah (Exalted be He) and His Omnipotence as well as frightening him with the grievous sin of injustice. After the Jinni said that he is a Buddhist disbeliever, the shaykh called him to Islam and to come out of the woman whom he was possessing. Accordingly, the Jinn complied and declared his conversion to Islam before Shaykh Al-`Umary. Then, Shaykh Al-`Umary and the guardians of the woman wanted to come to me with the woman to hear the Jinni’s conversion to Islam. When they were all present, I asked the Jinni about the reason for embracing Islam. He spoke on the tongue of the woman but in a manly voice. All this happened in the presence of the woman who was sitting in the chair next to me beside her brother, sister, and Shaykh Al-`Umary as well as some shaykhs who witnessed and heard the speech of the Jinni while openly declaring his conversion to Islam. He said he was a Buddhist from India. On my part, I advised him to observe Taqwa (fear or wariness of offending Allah) and to leave the body of this woman as he is making her suffer. The Jinni submitted to my order and said that he embraced Islam willingly. Therefore, I advised himto call his people to Islam after Allah (Exalted be He) had guided him to the right path. He came out of the woman’s body and his last word was “As-salamu `alaykum” (peace be upon you). Then the woman spoke with her normal voice and felt comfortable and relaxed from the pain he was causing to her. After the lapse of a month or more, she visited me again with her brothers, maternal uncle, and sister and told me that she was very well, her condition was stable and the Jinni had never returned to her. When I asked her about how she felt when she was possessed by this Jinni, she said that she always had deviant ideas contradicting the Shari`ah (Islamic law), in addition to an inclination to the Buddhist religion, and a desire to read its books. However, after this Jinni was cast out of her, she no longer had such ideas, as she returned to her normal state away from such abominable ideas.

I was told that Shaykh `Aly Al-Tantawy denied the occurrence of such matters, claiming that this is a kind of charlatanism and mere lies. He said that the speech that was mentioned on the tongue of the woman might have been recorded, not real. I asked for the tape in which the Jinni had declared that, and was confirmed that such opinions are really his. However, I could not imagine how he could think that what the woman said was recorded even though I, myself, asked the Jinni some questions and he replied. Then how could a person having the least degree of wisdom imagine that a recorded tape can be asked and give answers. This is one of the ugliest abominations and a way of permitting falsehood.

At the deathbed of Umm Habibah (radhi Allaahu anha)

It is reported that ‘Â`ishah – said, “Umm Habîbah called for me on her deathbed and said, ‘There used to occur between us the kinds of things that happen between co-wives (al-darâ`ir), so may Allâh forgive me and you those things.’ I said, ‘May Allâh forgive you all those things and release you from [all liability] for that.’ She replied, ‘You have made me happy, may Allâh make you happy.’ And she sent for Umm Salamah and said the same things to her.”

The Status of Women before and after Islaam – Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

The Status of Women before and after Islaam
by  Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan
Tanbeehaat ‘alaa Ahkaam takhtassu bil-Mu’minaat (pg. 6-11)
Al-Ibaanah (dot) com (the website is down now, baarak Allaahu feekum)

The Status of the Woman before Islaam:

What is meant “before Islaam” here is the period known as Jaahiliyyah (Days of Ignorance), which the Arabs used to live in specifically and the people of the whole world in general. This was when the people did not have any Messengers amongst them and they were void of any guidance. And as is stated in the hadeeth, “Allaah looked at them – both Arabs and Non-Arabs – and hated them, except for some remnants from the People of the Book (who stayed upon the true message).”

In most cases, the woman of this time period lived under critical conditions – especially those in the Arab societies, where they used to hate it when a girl was born. So amongst the Arabs were those who would bury their daughter while she was still alive until she died below the earth. And amongst them were those who let them live only to find a life of humiliation and degradation. Allaah says: “And when news of the birth of a female child was brought to any of them, his face would become dark and filled with grief. He hides himself from the people because of the evil that he has been informed of. Shall he keep her with dishonor or bury her in the earth? Certainly, evil is their decision.” [Surah An-Nahl: 58-59]

And Allaah says: “And when the female child who was buried in the ground will be questioned – for what sin was she killed?” [Surah At-Takweer: 8-9]

The word maw’oodah refers to the baby girl that was buried alive and left to die inside the earth. And if she was spared from being buried alive and allowed to live, then indeed she found herself living a life of degradation. This is since she was not allowed to inherit any portion of her relative’s estate no matter how much money he had and regardless of if she was suffering from poverty and dire need. The reason for this is because they would make the inheritance specific for men in exclusion of women. In fact, she would be distributed as part of her deceased husband’s estate, just as his money would be distributed in inheritance!

And there would be found a score of women living under one man, since they would not put any limits to the number of wives they could marry. So they wouldn’t show any concern for what occurred to the women as a result of that, such as living under cramped conditions, inconveniences and injustice.

The Status of the Woman after Islaam:

But when Islaam came, it uplifted these injustices from the woman and returned her honor and self-esteem in humanity back to her. Allaah says: “O mankind, indeed We created you from a male and a female.” [Surah Al-Hujuraat: 13]

So Allaah mentions that she is the partner of man in the origin of humanity and likewise, she is partners with man in terms of being rewarded or punished for actions performed. Allaah says:“Whoever does good deeds, – whether male or female – while he or she is a true believer, to him We will give a good life and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do.” [Surah An-Nahl: 97]

Allaah says: “So that Allaah may punish the male and female hypocrites and the male and female polytheists.” [Surah Al-Ahzaab: 73]

And Allaah made it forbidden to consider a woman as a possession to be inherited from her dead husband’s estate, as He says: “O you who believe, you are forbidden to inherit women against their will.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 19]

So Allaah gave her independence in her individuality, such that she became one who can inherit as opposed to an object of inheritance. And Allaah gave the woman a right in the inheritance of her relative’s wealth. Allaah says: “There is a share for men and a share for women from what is left by their parents and close relatives, whether the property be small or large – a legal share.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 7]

And Allaah says: “Allaah commands you as regards your children’s inheritance: to the male a portion equal to that of two females. If there are only daughters, two or more, their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 11]

And this goes as well for the other texts that state a woman can inherit whether she be a mother, a daughter, a sister or a wife.

In the area of marital affairs, Allaah limited a husband to marrying the maximum of four wives, on the condition that he treats all of his wives fairly and equally according to his ability. And He obligated to the husbands to live with them in kindness, as He says: “And live with them honorably.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 19]

And He made the dowry her right and He commanded that it be given to her in full except for that which she permits from her own good will. Allaah says: “And give to the women their dowry with a good heart. But if they, out of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, take it and enjoy it without any fear of harm.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 4]

And Allaah made her the caretaker, commanding good and forbidding evil in the household of her husband – and the leader over her children. The Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “A woman is the guardian of her husband’s household and she will be asked (on the Day of Judgement) concerning those under her care.” Also, Allaah made it obligatory for the husband to spend on her and to clothe her in a good manner.

What the Enemies of Islaam and their Offshoots want today from their stripping the Woman of her Honor and rights:

Indeed the enemies of Islaam – rather the enemies of humanity – today, from the disbelievers, hypocrites and those who have a disease in their hearts are enraged about what the Muslim woman has achieved from honor, glory and chastity in Islaam. This is because the enemies of Islaam from the disbelievers, hypocrites and those who have a disease in their hearts – they want from the woman that she serve as a trap by which they can lure and catch those with weak Eemaan and those who have perverted natures, after having fulfilled their depraved desires from her. Allaah says: “But those who follow their lusts wish that you should deviate tremendously away.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 27]

And those who have a disease in their hearts among the Muslims want the woman to be a cheap commodity exhibiting herself to those people of lustful desires and devilish inclinations. They want her to serve as an open commodity before their eyes so that they may find entertainment in her beautiful appearance or perhaps they may make her do something far worse than that.

This is why they expend great efforts in trying to make the woman go out of her home so that she can participate with men in their jobs – working side by side with them. Or that she can serve and tend to men as a nurse in the hospital or a flight attendant on an airplane or a teacher or professor in mixed non-segregated schools Or that she be an actress in the theatres or a singer or a broadcaster on the various forms of media – exposing her face and enticing men by her voice and appearance.

And the immoral magazines have taken pictures of young girls that are looking provocative and naked as a means for promoting and marketing their magazines. And some businessmen and companies have taken these pictures also as a means for promoting their product, such that they place these pictures in their advertisements and exhibits.

These evil actions are meant to distract the woman from her real and true duty, which is in the home. And this forces the husbands to hire female servants to raise their children and take care of the affairs of their households, which results in much mischief and great evil.

However, we don’t restrict a woman from working outside of her home, so long as she abides by the following guidelines:

1. She must have a need for doing this work or the community she lives in requires her to do this job, such that there cannot be found any man that can do the job.

2. She should do this after fulfilling the job she has at home, which is her primary job.

3. This job must be in an environment of women only, such as her teaching women (only) or doctoring and nursing female patients. And her work must be separate from men.

4. Likewise, there is nothing that restricts her from learning the affairs of her Religion – in fact she is obligated to do this. And there is nothing preventing her from teaching about the aspects of her Religion, so long as there is a need for that and her teaching is held in an environment of (only) women. And there is no harm in her attending classes in a masjid and so on, while being consistent in that and segregated from men. This can be seen from the women in the beginning of Islaam (i.e. the Sahaabiyaat), in that they would work and study and attend the masaajid.

The Three Men and the Valley

It is reported that ‘Abdullâh b. Mas’ûd – Allâh be pleased with him – said:

The example of the believer, the unbeliever and the hypocrite is that of three people who arrived at a valley. One of them descended and passed through to the other side. One of them descended until he reached half way, when the third man on the edge of the valley called to him, “Woe to you, where are you going? You will die. Come back.” The man who made it to the other side called to him, “Come and be saved.” So [the man in the middle of the valley] kept looking back and forth at the two [on each side of the valley], when a flood came into the valley and drowned him. The man who passed through to the other side is the believer; the one who drowned is the munâfiq (hypocrite) –

[The Hypocrites] sway between this and that, neither [fully] with the believers nor with the unbelievers.

[The Hypocrites] sway between this and that, neither [fully] with the believers nor with the unbelievers. [Quran 4:143]

And the one who remained at the edge of the valley [not  able to escape the flood and pass] is the kâfir (unbeliever).

Being a Slave to Wealth – Shaykh Sulaymân as-Sulaymî

Being a Slave to Wealth
The Great Enslavement by Shaykh Sulaymân as-Sulaymî
Source: Al-Istiqaamah, Issue No.7

Someone may ask: What is the proof that some people become slaves to money, or other similar things, and worship it? The proof is in the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam where he said: “Woe be to the ‘abd (slave and worshipper) of the dirham, woe be to the ‘abd of the deenaar (dirham ond deenaar: equivilant to the Pound and the pence) …“[3] Someone may ask: How does this enslavement to money manifest itself, and what is its nature! It is when the heart becomes so in love with money, that it covers up, or suppresses the love for Allaah, This love can reach such an extent that a person desires to attain this wealth by any means possible – neither caring whether the wealth comes to him through halaal (lawful) means; in obedience to Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, or means that are haraam (unlawful and forbidden) in the Religion.

So understand by reflection, that every single heart in all created things has feelings, desires and inclinations. It has the desire to love, to gain good and beneficial things for itself, it can feel fear and terror, and it can also surrender and become submissive. Thus, when its feelings, desires and inclinations are all directed to and for Allaah, then it is a heart that truly worships, submits and surrenders to Allaah alone. Therefore, it has khawf (fear) of only Allaah; it has rajaa (hope) in Allaah’s Mercy; it has mahabbah (love) for Allaah and whatever Allaah loves; and it has istislaam (submits and surrenders) to only Allaah. However, when these feelings, desires and inclinations are directed to other than Allaah, then it is a heart that is enslaved and worships that object which has captured and enslaved it.

The forbiddance of the heart submitting to other than Allaah should not be misunderstood to mean that Muslims must forsake the world and dealing with it. Rather, the true position of a Muslim is that which was with the Sahaabah (Companions) radiallaahu ‘anhum. They held the wealth in their hands, yet none of it was in their hearts. [About this, Shaykhul-lslaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) – rahimahullaah – said: “The position of wealth should be regarded like that of the toilet, in that there is need for it, but it has no place in the heart, and it is resorted to when needed.”[4] The point being made is that we are not trying to call the people to the opinion of some of the Soofees, who believe that it is forbidden for a Muslim to possess wealth and take part in worldly transactions. Rather, it is obligatory for the Muslims to be the richest of people so that they may use this wealth as a means to worship Allaah – the One free from all imperfections – and to help people.

Another form of submitting and being enslaved to other than Allaah is when people submit and enslave their hearts to power and leadership. They are prepared for humiliation to take hold of them, and to abandon their scruples, in order to gain votes during elections; or other such similar situations. They are prepared to submit themselves to people – doing whatever is necessary for them to do – in order to win other people’s favour, and thus gain that vote or position. Thus, this is another form of submitting and enslaving one’s heart to other than Allaah.
