As-Salafiyyah in the Arabic Language Means: Ascription to he who has preceeded; meaning passed by.
In its legislative usage, it is: All those who have passed after the Prophet Peace be upon him (following) his tracks; from the companions, the Imaams amongst the Taabi’oon (successors of the companions), and those after them.
Know, may Allaah bless you, that no one from the human beings in any time or place founded Salafiyyah. So Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhaab along with his brother Imaam Muhammad ibn Sa’ood were not the founders of Salafiyyah.
Nor was anyone before them from the people of knowledge and the Imaams of the religion and the true callers to this monotheistic religion its founder; such as Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah and his students, and those who were before him; such as the four Imaams and those who we have named from the Imaams; nor from the Taabi’oon, nor from the companions of Muhammad nor was Muhammad. Nor was it anyone who came before him from the Prophets and Messengers, upon all of them be prayers and peace. Rather, it is from Allaah. The Prophets and Messengers brought it. They conveyed that which He wished from the worship legislatively; as did those who came after them from their companions and followers. So whoever came after them were callers to Allaah in conformity with this Salafiyyah.

Listen to Audio Excerpt @ : Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 28
1 – Knowing that Allaah is the One Who forgives
From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: that Allaah Azza wa Jal said:
‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330]
2 – Hundred times a Day
From al Aghra -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:
‘O you people repent to Allaah and seek His forgiveness, since indeed I repent to Allaah and I seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day.’ [Collected by Ahmad & Albaani declared it to have a saheeh Isnad in Saheehah no. 1452]
3 – Seeking Forgiveness for Parents
Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:
– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. – [Nuh: 28]
Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:
– and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’ – [al-Isra: 24]
From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
‘Indeed Allaah raises the grade of a righteous slave of His in Paradise so much that the slave of Allaah says: ‘O My Lord! From where is all this for me? He will say: ‘By your son seeking forgiveness for you.’ [Collected by Ibn Majah, Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shaybah in ‘al-Mussanaf’, Asbahani in ‘Targheeb’, Baghawi in ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’, and by ad-Diyaa & Albaani declared its Isnad as hasan in Saheehah no.1598]
Abul Hasan as-Sindi -Rahimullaah- (d. 1138 A.H.) said in his explanation of ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’:
‘Therefore it is necessary for the son to seek forgiveness for his parents.’ [From ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’ No. 3660]
Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan was asked:
‘My mother seeks forgiveness and makes Tasbeeh a hundred times a day for her parents daily, what is the ruling of seeking forgiveness for parents after they have passed away?
The Shaykh answered:
‘This is a good thing, seeking forgiveness for parents and the Muslims, a person seeks forgiveness for himself, his parents and the Muslims, this is a matter which is legislated.
– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer- like Nuh – alayhi as-Salaam- said.
– Seek forgiveness for your sins and the believing men and women. – Like Allaah said to our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.
Seeking forgiveness for a person, his parents, his relatives, and his Muslim brothers, the living and the dead, is a matter which is needed, and a person should do this a lot.’ [Taken from: http://www.alfawzan.af.org.sa/node/13605%5D
4 – Seeking Forgiveness for the Believers
From Ubadah bin as-Samitt -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:
‘Whoever sought forgiveness for believing men and believing women, Allaah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 6026]

Listen to Audio Excerpt @ : Day 29: The Real Meaning of Zuhd (Not having a love for the Dunyaa)
a) AbdurRahmaan bin Ali bin Muhammad Ibn Jawzi (d. 598 A.H.) said:
‘Zuhd is not just leaving wealth or giving wealth to show that you are generous and strong, nor to get people’s hearts to incline to you, on the contrary Zuhd is leaving worldly things due to having the knowledge that it is insignificant in relation to the immeasurable value of the Hereafter.’
[Taken from: ‘Mukhtasir Minhaj al-Qasideen’ p.324]
b) Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:
‘The intent of Zuhd is not rejection of having possessions, since in fact Sulayman and Dawood –alayhim as-Salaam- were the ones who had the most Zuhd from amongst the people at their time and they had been endowed with wealth, land and women.
Our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had definitely the most Zuhd above all mankind, and he had nine women. ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib, AbdurRahman bin ‘Awf, Zubayr and Uthmaan -Radi Allaahu anhum- were from those who had Zuhd even though they had wealth, and there were many others like them.’
[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) Volume 2/13-14)]
c) Al-Hasan said:
‘Having Zuhd of the Dunyaa is not prohibiting oneself from that which is Halaal, nor by wasting money, but it is knowing that what is in Allaah’s Hand is more trustworthy than one’s own-self and what he has in his hand (i.e. possesses).’
[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) 285]
d) Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d.795) -Rahimullaah- said:
‘Abu Sulayman said: ‘Do not testify for anyone that he has Zuhd, since indeed Zuhd is in the heart.’

Allaah Ta’ala said:
– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad), then if you die, would they live forever? – [Anbiyya: 34]
Shaykh AbdulMuhsin said:
‘The Noble Ayaah indicates that the passage of a human is to pass away, and that Allaah did not make it such that anyone could live for eternity before the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, so eternity is not for the Prophet or for anyone else to remain. But rather everyone is moving towards passing away as Allaah Ta’ala said:
– Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever. –[Rahman: 26-27]
Some of the people of knowledge said: ‘The Mushrikoon used to reject his -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – Prophet hood, and they would say: ‘Muhammad is a poet we await for him some calamity after some time, and perhaps he will die just like such and such poet died from such and such tribe. So Allaah Ta’ala mentioned that indeed Prophets before you died, and Allaah has power over His religion with victory and protection, this is how the Deen and Sharia of the Prophet is protected.’
With this Ayaah, it indicates that al-Khidr has indeed died, whether he was a Wali (friend of Allaah Azza wa Jal), or a Prophet, or Messenger, because he was a human being, and he was present at the time of Moosa –alayhim as-Salaam. And Allaah Azza wa Jal had indeed said:
– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad) –

Preserving Good Deeds from Envy
By Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728) -Rahimullaah-
Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Listen Audio Excerpt @ : Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 22
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah -Rahimullaah- mentions in his explanation of the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:
Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. [al-Aaraaf: 55]
there are ten benefits of hiding your Dua’, and from amongst these benefits he said:
‘Indeed the greatest of blessings is turning to Allaah and worshipping Him. Every blessing has the equivalent of it being envied by an envious person, whether openly or secretly. There is no greater blessing than of turning to Allaah and worshipping Him [making Dua’], indeed the souls of the envious are attached to that blessing.
There is nothing more secure for the person who is envied than hiding his blessing from the envious person. Indeed Yaqoob said to Yusuf -alayhi as-Sallam:
< < O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you > >
till the end of the Ayaah.
How many of the people who have hearts, a connection and status with Allaah Ta’ala may perhaps have spoken about it, and informed people about it, and the envious one tried to plunder him over these blessings.
This is why the righteous and elderly are advised to keep their secrets with Allaah Ta’ala, and not to allow anyone to be acquainted with them.
This issue of hiding the blessing is of great benefit, its people know is benefits. Therefore, if it is commanded to do so in your Dua’/supplications, then this also includes the Dua’ for requesting this, and the Dua’ of praising Allaah.
Living and turning to Allaah Ta’ala is from the great treasures which has a right to be hidden from the eyes of the envious.’

1 – Abu Dawood as-Sijistani (d. 275 A.H.) said:
‘Imam Ahmad was asked while I was listening: Should the Qayyam – meaning the Taraweeh prayer – be delayed to the last part of the night?
He -Rahimullaah- answered:
‘No, the Sunnah of the Muslims is more beloved to me.’ [From: Masa’il Abee Dawood’ p.90]
2 – Al-Marwazi quotes from Imraan bin Haydar -Rahimullaah-:
I sent a question to al-Hasan -Rahimullaah- and I asked him about the Isha prayer in Ramadan, should we pray it then return to our homes and sleep then return to the Masjid after wards?
He rejected that and said:
‘No, Salatul- Isha then the Qayaam.’ [From ‘Qayyam al-Layl’ by al-Marwazi]
3 – Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:
‘…and Taraweeh prayer is a Sunnah after the Isha prayer.’ [From: ‘Mukhtasir al-Fatawa’ by Baali p.81]
And he also said:
‘The Sunnah of the Taraweeh prayer is that it is prayed after the end of the Isha prayer, as is agreed upon by the Salaf and the Imams.’ [From: ‘Majmoo Fatawa’ 23/119]
4 – Shaykh Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:
Questioner: ‘In the last ten nights of Ramadan, they divide up the prayer, the night prayer at the first part of the night, and the last part of the night, and this has become a continuous practice.’
The Shaykh: ‘Bida’.
Questioner: ‘How would it be then if we wanted to establish the Sunnah and make it easy for the people?’
The Shaykh: ‘They presume the like of what Umar had said, that those who delay the prayer are better. Meaning that Umar ordered Ubayy bin Ka’ab to establish the night prayer with the people after the Isha prayer, so he did so, and when Umar went out he said: ‘ This is a blessed Bida’ and those who sleep instead of it are better.’
The questioner: ‘So you mean that the situation of the night prayer is the same as it was before the last ten nights?’
The Shaykh: ‘Yes.’ [From: ‘Silsilah al-Huda wa Noor’ Tape no. 719]
5 – Shaykh Salih bin Fawzan bin Abdullaah al-Fawzan said:
‘As for the Salat-ul-Taraweehya; then this is a stressed Sunnah, and it is done straight after the Isha prayer and the optional prayers after the Isha prayer. This is what was the practice of the Muslims.
As for delaying it, as the questioner mentions, to another time, then coming to the Masjid and praying at-Taraweehya, then this is in contrast to what was practiced. The scholars of Fiqh mention that it is done after the Isha prayer and it is the optional prayers after the Isha prayer.
So if they delay it, then we do not say it is Haraam, however, it is in opposition to that which was practiced. Taraweehya is prayed in the beginning of the night, this is what was the practice.’

Knowledge & Actions

1 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:
‘Learning knowledge should be for the sake of Allaah’s Face, and also for acting upon that knowledge, otherwise knowledge will have an evil consequence, so the person remains between two illnesses, either the illness of ignorance or the illness of knowledge which is not beneficial, but rather harmful.
The knowledge which Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- came with is in itself beneficial. However, if a person does not act upon it then it becomes an evil consequence for him, and harmful for him, and perhaps it could harm others.’
2 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:
‘What is required from learning knowledge, is acting upon it, and action cannot come except after knowledge. As Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:
فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
-So know that Lâ ilâha ill-Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women.- [Muhammad: 19]
Bukhari wrote a chapter heading ‘Chapter: Knowledge comes before Statements and Actions’ because it is obligatory upon us not to act except with knowledge, and not worship Allaah except with knowledge, so we do not worship Allaah Subhanahu – with ignorance or following desires.’
3 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:
‘The way of those misguided from the people of the Book who learnt knowledge but did not act upon it, is that their hearts became hard, and most of them became evil…. . .
If this hardness afflicts the heart then it destroys it. . . . .
So it does not accept the truth, and does not act with knowledge and refuge is sought with Allaah, and it leads to hiding knowledge and acting in opposition to knowledge. . .. .
It leads to following whims and rejection of the truth, which is clear like the sun. . . . . ’

The Encouragement to Fast Ramadan Seeking a Reward
Compiled & translated By Abbas Abu Yahya
Published by Miraath Publications
Audio Excerpt: Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 05
1 – (992) – From Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
من قام ليلة القدر إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه ومن صام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
‘Whoever prayed during the night of Laylatul – Qadr due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins. Whoever Fasts Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’
[Collected by Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nisa’ee, Ibn Majah & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh]
Al-Khattabi said: ‘The meaning of the Prophet’s saying: ‘due to Eemaan and seeking a reward’ means having the intention and a strong resolve, which is to fast Ramadan with certainty and desiring a reward for it. Wanting to make oneself better due to Ramadan, without disliking it, nor with feeling it burdensome due to fasting it, nor due to its long drawn out days, but rather taking opportunity of the many days of Ramadan for its great reward.’
Baghawi said: ‘The saying of the Prophet: ‘seeking a reward’ means seeking Allaah’s Face and His reward.’
2- (993) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said:
كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يرغب في قيام رمضان من غير أن يأمرهم بعزيمة ثم يقول
من قام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to encourage praying in the night during Ramadan, without ordering them to do so as an obligation, then he would say:
‘Whoever prayed during the night in Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’
[Collected by Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nisa’ee & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh.]
Shaykh Albaani mentioned in the footnote:
‘This encouragement of having sins forgiven and those similar to it, are a clarification of the excellence of this type of worship, which is that if a person had sins then they are forgiven for him due to this type of worship. It is known that the means which lead to general forgiveness are many, so when these means are gathered/ combined, what can remain from those sins so that he needs to be forgiven?
So the purpose is a clarification of the excellence of this worship, that Allaah gives this worship this amount of excellence. If there was no sin upon a person, then this excellence is expressed in raising the rank of a person, the like of that which is rightful for the Prophets, who are infallible from committing sin. And Allaah knows best.’
3 – (994) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
الصلوات الخمس والجمعة إلى الجمعة ورمضان إلى رمضان مكفرات ما بينهن إذا اجتنبت الكبائر
‘The five daily prayers, from one Juma till the next Juma, from Ramadan to the next Ramadan, are an expiation for what takes place between them, as long as the major sins are kept away from.’
[Collected by Muslim]
4 – (998) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
إذا جاء رمضان فتحت أبواب الجنة وغلقت أبواب النار وصفدت الشياطين
‘When Ramadan comes in, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed and the Devils are locked up.’
[Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]
In the narration of Muslim:
فتحت أبواب الرحمة وغلقت أبواب جهنم وسلسلت الشياطين
‘The doors of mercy are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the Devils are chained up.’
In the wording from Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah:
إذا كان أول ليلة من شهر رمضان صفدت الشياطين ومردة الجن وغلقت أبواب النار فلم يفتح منها باب وفتحت أبواب الجنة فلم يغلق منها باب وينادي مناد يا باغي الخير أقبل ويا باغي الشر أقصر ولله عتقاء من النار وذلك كل ليلة
‘When it is the first night of the month of Ramadan, the Devils are locked up and the evil Jinn, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed, so that no door from it is open. The doors of Paradise are opened, so no door from it is closed. A caller will call out: O seeker of good come forward, and O seeker of evil keep away from sin, and Allaah has slaves freed from the fire, and that is every night of Ramadan.’
[Albaani declared it Hasan]
5 – (1002) – It is narrated from Abu Saeed al-Khudri -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
إن لله تبارك وتعالى عتقاء في كل يوم وليلة – يعني في رمضان – وإن لكل مسلم في كل يوم وليلة دعوة مستجابة
‘Indeed Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- has freed slaves every day and night -meaning in Ramadan- and indeed every Muslim has every day and night a supplication that is answered.’
[Collected by al- Bazzar & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh lighayrihi.]
6 – 1003 – From Amr bin Murra al-Juhani -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: ‘A man came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and asked: ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Do you see that if I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that you are the Messenger of Allaah, and I pray the five prayers, and I gave the Zakat, and Fast Ramadan, and prayed during its nights, so who will I be from?’
He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
من الصديقين والشهداء
‘From the righteous and the martyrs.’
[Collected by al-Bazzar, Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban & Albaani declared it Saheeh.]
