Before you is a translation of the book: “Talkhees Ahkaam-ul-Udhiyah wadh-Dhakaat  [The Rules of Sacrificial Offerings and Slaughtering – Abridged] which is a condensed version of a larger book written by Imaam Muhammad bin Saalih Al-Uthaimeen [D. 1421H].

In his introduction, he states:

“I had previously written a rather lengthy book on the rules of sacrificial offerings and slaughtering, which was published in 93 pages and contained discussions on some issues of difference. However, foreseeing that the book might be too long for the average reader, I felt that I should abridge that book and leave out unnecessary discussions while adding to it what needed to be added.”

About the Author:

‘Abu’l-Faraj Jamal al-Din Abdul Rahman ibn Ali Ibn Muhammad ibn Ali Ibn Ubayd Allah Ibn al-Jawzi al-Qurashi al Tamimi al Bakri al-Baghdadi al-Hanbali (509/510-597) was the Imam of the Hanbalis and foremost orator of kings and commoners in his time, whose gatherings reportedly reached one hundred thousand.

A hadith master, philologist, commentator of Qur’an, expert jurist, physician, and historian of superb character and exquisite manners.
Ibn al-Jawzi was a prolific author of over seven hundred books.

He was the author of a vast number of works of which several have been printed in recent times. He was famous as a preacher and the traveller Ibn Jubair gives an enthusiastic account of two of his sermons heard in Baghdad.

He was born in 509/510 AH in the city of Baghdad and grew up studying under the leading scholars of the time, He also was noted for his scholarship in the fields of history, linguistics, tafseer and fiqh. In fact, he became the leading scholar of the Hanbali Madhab of his time and played an important role in reviving and spreading it, especially after the become a favorite of the Abassid Caliph, al Mustadi

Ibn al-Jawzi was severely tried towards the end of his life when his criticism of Shaykh `Abd al-Qadir al-Gilani – his senior of forty years – led to accusations made against him to the Sultan al-Nasir by the Shaykh’s children and supporters. He was taken from Baghdad to the city of Wasit where he remained imprisoned for five years.

Ibn al-Jawzi passed away in 597 AH, two years after his release from Imprisonment.

Because I saw the importance of this book in terms of the topics it touches upon, its methodology and the lack of there being any explanation for it, I became determined, while seeking assistance from Allaah and hoping that He grant me correctness in intention and action, to put forth some words on it, in the attempt to clarify its ambiguous parts, explain its meanings and bring to light its main points.’

 As-Salafiyyah in the Arabic Language Means: Ascription to he who has preceeded; meaning passed by.

Know, may Allaah bless you, that no one from the human beings in any time or place founded Salafiyyah. So Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhaab along with his brother Imaam Muhammad ibn Sa’ood were not the founders of Salafiyyah.

Nor was anyone before them from the people of knowledge and the Imaams of the religion and the true callers to this monotheistic religion its founder; such as Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah and his students, and those who were before him; such as the four Imaams and those who we have named from the Imaams; nor from the Taabi’oon, nor from the companions of Muhammad nor was Muhammad. Nor was it anyone who came before him from the Prophets and Messengers, upon all of them be prayers and peace. Rather, it is from Allaah. The Prophets and Messengers brought it. They conveyed that which He wished from the worship legislatively; as did those who came after them from their companions and followers. So whoever came after them were callers to Allaah in conformity with this Salafiyyah.

One of the works on this subject is his (Ibn Taymiyyah’s) “al-Fatwaa al-Hamawiyyah” which he wrote as an answer to a question presented to him in the Hijrah year of 698 from Hamaah, a place in ash-Shaam. In it, he was asked what the scholars and Imaams of the religion say concerning the Aayaat and the Ahaadeeth of the Sifaat, or the attributes and characteristics of Allaah. So he answered in about 83 pages and due to which, he suffered trials and afflictions. May Allaah reward him on behalf of Islaam and the Muslims with the best of rewards.

From the Back of the Book:

Allaah has sent Muhammad (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) with guidance and the true religion. He sent him as a mercy to the world, as an example for the workers, and as a proof against all the servants. He (Muhammad) fulfilled the trust, conveyed the message, advised the Ummah, and he clarified for the people all of what they need regarding the foundations of their religion as well as its detailed matters. He left no good except that he clarified it and encouraged it, and he left no evil but that he warned the Ummah from it so much so that he left his Ummah upon a clear, white path – its night as clear as its day. His companions traversed this path, shining and radiant.

Afterwards, the best generations took it from them in the same state until oppression frowned upon them with the darkness of various innovations by which the innovators conspired against Islaam and its people. The people then wandered in confusion purposelessly, and they began building their ‘Aqeedah beliefs upon a spider’s web.

However, the Lord upholds His religion with His close helpers upon whom He bestows Eemaan, knowledge, and wisdom by which they prevent these enemies. They repel their plot back against their own throats. So no one ever comes out with his innovation except that Allaah – and for this deserves praise and thanks – destines to send someone from Ahlus-Sunnah who refutes and disproves his innovation and extinguishes it.

He has many works on the clarification and explanation of the Sunnah, the reinforcement of its pillars, and the destruction of innovations.

One of the works on this subject is his “al-Fatwaa al-Hamawiyyah” which he wrote as an answer to a question presented to him in the Hijrah year of 698 from Hamaah, a place in ash-Shaam. In it, he was asked what the scholars and Imaams of the religion say concerning the Aayaat and the Ahaadeeth of the Sifaat, or the attributes and characteristics of Allaah. So he answered in about 83 pages and due to which, he suffered trials and afflictions. May Allaah reward him on behalf of Islaam and the Muslims with the best of rewards.

Due to the difficulty in understanding and comprehending this answer from many readers, I wanted to summarize the most important points from it along with some other needed additions. I have named it “Fathu Rabb-il-Bariyyah bi-Talkhees al-Hamawiyyah.”

I first published it in the Hijrah year 1380. I am now publishing it a second time and perhaps changing what I see beneficial of additions or deletions.

I ask Allaah to make our effort sincerely for His Face and as a benefit to His servants, for indeed He is Generous and Kind.
