The Virtues of the Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah – Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen رحمه الله. Translated by Abu ‘Abdullah Naasir Hussain حفظه الله.

Transcription of the Video:

Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen:

All praises, abundant and blessed, are for Allah. I testify that none deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, who has no partners a testimony which saves the one who says it from the punishment of Allah, and I testify that indeed Muhammad is His true worshipper and messenger. May the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, his family, his companions and everyone who follows them correctly until the Day of Judgment. As for what proceeds, O worshippers of Allah:

You are indeed coming upon the ten blessed days, which Allah swore by in His statement:

وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

“By the dawn. By the ten nights.” [Soorah AI-Fajr: 1-2]

What is intended by the ten nights, as is held by many of the commentators, is that they are the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. And the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him and his family, said about them:

There are no days in which the righteous actions are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” They (the companions) said: “O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the path of Allah?” He replied: “Not even Jihad in the path of Allah, except the one who goes out with his self and his wealth and returns with none of them.”

Meaning that he went out and was martyred and didn’t return with anything. So, increase in these ten days, O brothers, increase in actions of righteousness: prayer and recitation of the Qur’aan, remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, giving charity, fasting… Indeed the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, did not make this statement except as an encouragement to hasten towards righteous actions. Audibly, and in abundance, say the takbeer (Allah is the Greatest). Abundantly utter the statement:

Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaahi’l-hamd

(Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, None deserves to be worshipped except Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise).

So that you can ‘join’ the pilgrims, who have filled the horizons with the raising of their voices with the talbiya. So, fill the horizons, by raising your voices with the glorification and praise of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.

Indeed Allah is the Most Wise, the Most Merciful. When he legislated for the pilgrims to say the talbiya and to raise their voices with it and He legislated for them the sacrifice of an animal, He legislated for the people in their countries, to raise their voices with the takbeer (Allahu Akbar), the tahleel (Laa ilaaha ilIa-Allah) and tahmeed (Alhamdulillah).

Also, that they should offer a sacrificial animal because it is one of the nusuk (rites of Hajj) by which one seeks a means of nearness to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. So, sacrifice for yourself and for your families.

One sacrificial animal suffices a man and his family and there is no need for every individual (in a family) to offer a sacrifice even if they have the financial means. This is because, even though the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, was the most generous of creation, he didn’t sacrifice for himself and his family except one sacrificial animal. Even though his family comprised nine women, he only sacrificed one sacrificial animal, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him. As for the second sacrificial animal that he offered, it was for his nation – may Allah reward him for that with the best of rewards.

As for the one who intends to offer a sacrifice and the ten days have commenced, he should not remove any of his hair, his nails or any of his skin because the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, prohibited this. For this reason, anybody who wants to act upon the Sunnah by trimming his moustache, plucking his armpits, clipping his nails, or shaving his private parts should do so before the commencement of these ten days because when the ten days begin, he should not remove anything from these things due to the prohibition of the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him and his family.

Listening to the Tapes of the Innovators – Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadee al-Waadi’ee

Ramadhaan – The first point of reflection – By Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar-Ruhaylee

Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad Abdullah حفظه الله

Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar- Ruhaylee حفظه الله:

The first point of reflection: Is a point of contemplation and this point – O servants of Allah- is that last year we welcomed Ramadhaan and then bade it farewell. Then, we waited for the next Ramadhaan and saw it as being far away. Yet. here it is upon us and one of us says to himself or his brother. ‘How fast the days have past. I swear by Allah it was as if it was yesterday we bade farewell to the last Ramadhaan and here it is today we begin the current Ramadhaan.’

Verily this is the reality of the days, they quickly pass us by and our appointed times have diminished. One of us says – O servants of Allah- if the year passes by, My age has increased a year’ but the reality of the affair is that certainly his age has decreased by a year as one’s age is limited and one’s appointed time is limited. And verily the reality of the affair is that it is not but steps (closer to death) and Allah knows best when those steps will end. Verily, O servants of Allah, it is but just days which we spend and they spend us as they quickly move us to our appointed time.

Verily, this reality – O servants of Allah – reminds us of the statement of Our Lord the Most High:

And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. [Al-Kahf: 45]

Verily this life – O servants of Allah – quickly passes us by, it quickly passes us by and our condition is not except three: Youth, then old age and then death. (Like the line of poetry says):

‘The last thing an individual is called is ‘old man ‘ and what follows that from the names he is given is ‘the deceased’.

So glad tidings – O servants of Allah- for the one who reflects upon that which has passed and revived the present and what will come with righteous actions.

{So reflect O you who have intellects}

Knowledge is Sought from its Scholars – By Dr. Murtaza bin Bakhsh [Video|Urdu-Eng Subtitles]

Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim
Translation Verified By: Abu Bilal Nahim

Dr. Murtaza bIn Bakhsh:

Who is upon the truth and who is upon falsehood? How will we know this and how will we be able to distinguish this? Is it possible without knowledge? Then, when will we seek knowledge? Is it not important that time be allocated? It is important; and knowledge is sought from the scholars. It is notjust sought from books. It is sought from scholars and students of knowledge. Those scholars who teach the Qur’aan and the Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf of this Ummah – this confinement is obligatory, that there is the Quraan, authentic Hadeeth and they speak, teach the religion and give rulings according to the understanding of the Sahaabah (companions of Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam).

If you find such a scholar or such a student of knowledge somewhere, then do not leave him; and connect with the scholars, the senior scholars all praise be to Allaah – such scholars are present.

Now (seeking) knowledge has become easy, translations have come forth – in English, in Urdu, in every language. Shaykh bin Baaz rahimahullaah, Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen, (the) Muhaddith, Muhammad Naasiruddeen aI-Albaani rahimahullaah, there are (about) 10,000 cassettes of his – now we have CDs, but before the CDs there were (about) 10,000 cassettes. And if you just take out any cassette from the middle, you will notice that they contained the lessons of Tawheed and the Manhaj of the Salaf, in each of his cassettes. Far removed is Allah from all imperfections!

Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan is alive [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Saalih al-Luhaydaan is alive, Shaykh Ubayd al-Jaabiree, Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee, Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee aI-Madkhalee – they are those ‘Ulemaa, that if you attach yourself to them, by Allaah, life changes. There is light [of guidance] in their sayings; there is light in their guidance. If (you) want to learn the methodology of the Salaf, then this is the path, this is the methodology. There are other Salafee scholars as well but I remember these names, their names are known and famous. Do not say that I do not have a way to reach them. By Allaah, by sitting at home, nowadays, all praise be to Allaah, there are online duroos happening as well. Aren’t they happening? Use this technology correctly.

People abuse it by listening to songs and what not. You use it correctly and see how you become a part of (seeking) beneficial knowledge and how it benefits you even after your death.

The Difference Between Lesser and Greater Shirk – Shaykh Uthaimin

Translator: Mikail ibn Mahboob Ariff حفظه الله

Question:

Esteemed Shaikh, what is the guiding principle with regard to the difference between texts concerning greater and lesser shirk?

Answer:

This [is a] question a lot of people ask about, saying: what is the difference between lesser shirk and greater shirk?

Greater shirk is that which, when it takes place from a person, he leaves the religion [of Islam, becoming a disbeliever]; lesser is that which is less than that.

So directing worship to other than Allāh is greater shirk, and revering [any of] creation as Allāh is due reverence, such that one [of creation] is given a right of divine lordship or revered as the Creator is revered, is greater shirk.

And whatever is less than that is lesser shirk, for example: the issue of swearing by other than Allāh is lesser shirk as an initial assumption. However, if there were in the heart of the one swearing, that the one he swore by was like Allāh, it becomes greater shirk.

So the guiding principle is that whatever the Shāri‘ [the One who lays down Islāmic law] calls shirk [that] does not [at the same time] take [one] out of the religion, is lesser shirk, [while] that which takes [one] out of the religion is greater shirk.

And another question [still] remains for us: what is it that takes [one] out of the religion? And what is it that does not take [one] out?

This depends on the given text, so whoever gives one of creation a right that is only for the Creator, then this is greater shirk, and whatever is less than that is lesser shirk.

I will give you an example: If a person respects his father greatly–every time he comes, he kisses his hand or kisses his forehead; sets his sandals down before him [to wear] and brings the car close to him [to save him having to walk]–this is showing great respect.

If he were to come to another person and did the same for him as he had done for his father, then this [person] has put other than his father [on] the same [level] as his father.

However, had he only presented [this person other than his father] sandals [for him to wear], would he then be treating this other one as one equal to his father? Of course not.

Shortening the beard to find work in Europe – Shaykh Fawzaan [Video|Ar-En]

Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad Abdullah hafizhahullaah

Question:

Is it permissible for the person living in Europe to shorten his beard if his beard has caused him a problem finding work?

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan hafizhahullaah:

Adhere to the Sunnah in any location on Earth and do not look to please the people and complying with them. Adhere to the Sunnah regarding the beard and other aspects of the Sunnah and do not abandon anything from your religion in order to please the people. This is AI-Mudaahanah (the type of flattery which has been forbidden).

Dr Murtaza bin Bakhsh hafizahullaah:

Often we here these words in society. ‘Mind your business! They advise: ‘Mind your business!’ I am minding my own business. With Allah’s permission, I am advising you. What type of bad deed am I doing? People say, and they are ignorant (unfortunately), wearing a tie, suited and booted, looking very smart. You advise them: Brother, pray the salaah, (they say): ‘Mind your business!’

I will mind my own business, that isn’t a problem! If death overtakes you in this state, then what are you going to do?! No. this is the truth! I have done my job, informed you, told you once. I have made my request: ‘The prayer has been established; the Masjid is straight ahead of us, close by.’ They look at you, staring in an angry manner: “Mind your busmess.”

OK. I‘ll mind my business! I’ve done my job. What are you going to do? Whilst going about your business you have an accident. the Angel of Death will not give you a little more time. By Allah! He won’t give you two minutes. so you can establish the prayer, after which he can take my soul. No! So then, what are you going to do?

The Menstruating Woman or the One in Her Post-Partum Period Touching the mus-haf – Shaykh Bin Baaz

Translated by Abu Abdullah Naasir Hussain حفظه الله
Source: http://www.binbaz.org.sa/node/16921

Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim

Question:

Is a woman that is menstruating or in her post-partum period allowed to touch the mus-haf or read from it? Also, is the menstruating woman allowed to enter the masjid in order to gain religious knowledge?

Shaykh Abdulazeez bin Abdullah bin Baaz:

The menstruating woman is not allowed to sit in the masjid nor touch the mus-haf until she has become purified. However, if a need for her to touch it arose, such as in order to revise a verse (of the Qur’an) or something like that, there is no problem to do so by wearing gloves or by using some other barrier.

As for touching it without some sort of barrier, then no, she should not do that. This is because her impurity is major, like the one who is impure due to sexual relations (junub). The one who is ‘junub’ does not read or touch the mus-haf. As for the menstruating woman, she may recite [the Qur’an] during the whole period. So can the one in her post-partum period, according to the correct Opinion. She can read from her memory without touching the mus-haf unless she has to in order to revise a verse in which case it is alright if she touches it using a barrier.

The Way to Strive Against the Soul – Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al-Bukhaaree

Video Courtesy : Brother Bilal Nahim

Question:

(What is) the way to strive against the soul [Inside] that is ever commanding [One] to do Evil?

Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al-Bukhaaree:

Strive against It.

And those who strive for Our sake [from the Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam, his companions, and those who followed their way], We will most certainly show them our paths. [Al-‘Ankabut 69]

Every person is such that it is a must that he strive against himself. It is well known that the Nafs al-Ammarah bi-l-Su’ [the soul inside that is ever commanding one to do evil] takes him here and there. So it is upon him to remember that Allah, Majestic and All-High, sees him and has full knowledge of him. He knows the eyes that betray trusts and that which the chests keep hidden. And that He, Majestic and All-High [is such that] nothing at all escapes Him. So it is upon him to keep bringing to his mind at all times that Allah sees him and has full knowledge of him; that he fear Him; that he repent to Allah; that he push his soul to do good, always and ever; and that he strive his utmost against it to do acts of obedience [to Allah] and make it remain upon acts of obedience.

When he hears the call [to prayer], he gets up and aims to beat others to the mosque; and he prays, if it’s the time for performing one of known routine [Sunnah prayers] or the like of that; he prays [general] voluntary [prayers]; he recites Qur’an; he is ready in the first line [of the congregation], and in this manner, he strives against his soul. And he recites the Qur’an, memorizes from it what he is able to, and shows eagerness to gain [Islamic] knowledge- he strives his utmost against his soul. If he were to tame it just a little, the soul would get tamed: It’s over, it would give in to him. But it needs to be checked on always, on an ongoing basis. Always, and on an ongoing basis.

And let him not feel secure from Allah’s long plan [that sinners enjoy for a time but finally get the punishment they deserve]. And let him not feel secure from Allah’s long plan.

We ask Allah Al-Aiim [the Exalted], Lord of the Great Throne, that He make us and you from those who listen to a speech and follow the best of it.

Question:

My son travels abroad to attend football (soccer) matches in the lands of the unbelievers; what is your advice for me and for him regarding this matter?

Shaykh Salih Fawzan:

[My advice] is that he is to have Taqwa of Allah and not to follow this game that has no benefit, rather it is harmful, and that he not travel for its sake to the lands of the unbelievers.

Firstly [football] is useless. and secondly, travelling to the lands of the unbelievers is not permitted except for a necessity, for medical treatment, to learn something special only they have and which we need, or for trade, this is alright.

The Ruling on Drinking Water in One Go – Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Translated by Abu ‘Abdullah Naasir Hussain حفظه الله
Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim

This questioner says: O virtuous Shaykh, l have heard that the Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, commanded that water should be drunk in one go. Is this correct?

Shaykh Fawzan:

This is not correct. Rather the Prophet, may the praise of I Allah and peace be upon him, prohibited drinking water in one go. This is because it is in imitation to camels. The Prophet, may the praise of Allah and peace be upon him, instructed us to drink with three breaths. To drink with three breaths. Yes.

Make Du’aa that Allah guides your Children – Dr Murtaza bin Bakhsh

http://urdu-islamic-audio.com/2015/07…
Translated by: Aboo Bilal Nahim ibn Abd al Majid حفظه الله

Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim

Dr Murtaza bin Bakhsh حفظه الله:

Whoever Allah -the Most High- chooses to guide, that individual is successful in this world and the hereafter. The majority (of the people) say, with regards to their children’s future:

Make my child a doctor.’ ’O Allah, make my child and engineer.’ ’0 Allah, make my child wealthy. ‘Make (my child) a businessman.’ The best du’aa you can make for your children, if you are going to make one is: ’O Allah, guide my children!’ This is the best of supplications!

In our society today, and in (this) nation of Muslims, there is no shortage of doctors, there is no shortage of engineers, nor is there a shortage of businessmen. If there is a shortage, then it is of rightly guided Muslims, individuals of Taqwa who withhold from that which is forbidden. How will this deficiency be fulfilled? I am not saying that you shouldn’t become doctors. Or that you shouldn’t guide your children to becoming doctors or to being engineers, this is not what I am saying. I am saying make them good Muslims (upon) Taqwa who withhold from that which is forbidden first, then a doctor, then an engineer.

You will not be able to rid this society, this nation of corruption. Our situation will not change until we change ourselves. The five daily prayers have not changed us! The month of Ramadaan has not changed us! So when will we change?!!

The Ruling on Speaking while the Quraan is being Recited – Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

The Ruling on Speaking while the Quraan is being Recited from a tape/CD/recorder

Question:

What is the legislative ruling for talking during the recitation of the Qur’an in general gatherings, like if the Qur’an is recited from a tape and a group of people are talking, what is the ruling on this action?

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen:

Allah the Most High states, {So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and give it due attention so that you may receive mercy}. [Soorah Al-‘Araaf: 204]

Thus, if we have a recorder playing the sound of a reciter (while we are talking); either we turn off the recorder or we listen to him. However. remaining in our chatter and talking as if we only hear the sounds of humans, then this is contrary to having manners with the Quran.

So here I say, that either we turn off the recorder or listen to it. Even if one of them was listening and the others continued to chat, then that one individual lowers the sound so that no one hears it except him.
