Making Up The Missed ‘Eid Prayer – Shaykh ‘AbdulQaadir al-Junayd

Is it permissible for the one who misses the ‘Eid prayer to make it up? And if so how is it to be made up?

The Permanent Committee for Scientific Research and Fatwa of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Ibn Baaz as stated in ‘Al-Fataawa’, vol. 8, pg. 306-307, nos. 2328 and 4517:

“The individual who misses the ‘Eid prayer and wants to make it up, then it is recommended for him to do so and he is to pray it according to its normal manner without being followed by a khutbah and this is what was stated by Maalik, ash-Shaafi’ee, Ahmad, an-Nakha’ee and other scholars.

The foundation for this is the statement of the Prophet صلّى اﻟﻠﻪَُّ عليه وسلّم :

‘If you come to the prayer, then approach it with tranquility and composure. Whatever you have caught from the prayer, then pray it and what has preceded you, then complete it.’

Also, what was narrated about Anas رضي اﻟﻠﻪّ عنه that:

‘If he missed the ‘Eid prayer with the Imaam, he would gather his family and servants, then ‘Abdullah Ibn Abi ‘Utbah, his servant, would lead them in prayer of two rak’ahs which he would make the takbeer in.’

And regarding the individual who arrives at the ‘Eid prayer while the Imaam is giving the khutbah, he is to listen to the khutbah then make up the prayer after. This is so that he gets the benefit of both (listening to the khutbah and making up the prayer as opposed to making up the prayer first and missing the khutbah).”

The Permanent Committee also stated:

“Whoever reaches the prayer and catches only the tashahhud with the Imaam of the two ‘Eid prayers, then he is to pray two rak’ahs after the Imaam gives the salaam and he does exactly what the Imaam does regarding the takbeer, recitation, rukoo’ and sujood.”

It is a Sunnah action to go to the ‘Eid prayer area walking – Shaykh ‘AbdulQaadir al-Junayd

It has been authentically narrated from Zir Ibn Hubaysh that he said:

“‘Umar Ibn al-Khattaab (radhiAllaahu anhu) left on the day of ‘Eid al-Fitr or the day of Adhaa covered in a cotton garment, walking.”

[Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah, no, 5590]

Also, it is authentically narrated from Ja’far Ibn Barqaan that he said:

“‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdil ‘Azeez wrote encouraging them on the two ‘Eids: ‘Whoever can come to them walking, then do so.’”

[Narrated by ‘Abdur Razzaaq, no. 5664 – and this is his wording, and Ibn Abi Shaybah, no. 5604]

It is also authentically reported from Sa’eed Ibn al-Musayyib that he said:

“The Sunnah of ‘Eid al-Fitr is three.” And he mentioned that from them was: “Walking to the prayer area.”

[Narrated by al-Faryaabi, pg. 18]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee mentioned in his ‘Sunan’, vol. 2, pg. 264:

“The majority of the People of Knowledge deem the individual walking to the ‘Eid prayer to be a recommended act.”

Ramadhaan – The second point of reflection – By Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar-Ruhaylee

Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar-Ruhaylee حفظه الله:

The second point of reflection is a reminder. Last year, O servants of Allah, Ramadhaan came upon us and we exerted ourselves a little and were negligent in many ways. We were lazy in many ways and were surprised when Ramadhaan ended and we bade it farewell. We were regretful of our negligence therein and promised ourselves that if we make it to the next Ramadhaan, we would exert ourselves in worship and that we would not be negligent or lazy.

Here we are, O servants of Allah, we have begun Ramadan and days from it have passed us by. So what have we done regarding our promises? Have we been generous with ourselves by exerting ourselves in these blessed days or have we returned to what we were upon before; exerting ourselves a little and being negligent a lot? It is incumbent, O servants of Allah, to remember our condition last Ramadan so that we can improve our condition in this current Ramadan as it is only a minute number of days, O servants of Allah, before it ends.

Thus, it is obligatory upon us to honor ourselves by exerting ourselves in acts obedience as anyone of us does not know if he will or will not make it to the next Ramadan. How many of our loved ones fasted with us last Ramadan, but today they are lost amongst us and have entered their graves. Allah knows best about our situation. Therefore, we need to make the most of this Ramadan doing righteous deeds as in this lies our happiness in this life and the next.

Ramadhaan – The first point of reflection – By Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar-Ruhaylee

Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad Abdullah حفظه الله

Shaykh Sulaymaan Ar- Ruhaylee حفظه الله:

The first point of reflection: Is a point of contemplation and this point – O servants of Allah- is that last year we welcomed Ramadhaan and then bade it farewell. Then, we waited for the next Ramadhaan and saw it as being far away. Yet. here it is upon us and one of us says to himself or his brother. ‘How fast the days have past. I swear by Allah it was as if it was yesterday we bade farewell to the last Ramadhaan and here it is today we begin the current Ramadhaan.’

Verily this is the reality of the days, they quickly pass us by and our appointed times have diminished. One of us says – O servants of Allah- if the year passes by, My age has increased a year’ but the reality of the affair is that certainly his age has decreased by a year as one’s age is limited and one’s appointed time is limited. And verily the reality of the affair is that it is not but steps (closer to death) and Allah knows best when those steps will end. Verily, O servants of Allah, it is but just days which we spend and they spend us as they quickly move us to our appointed time.

Verily, this reality – O servants of Allah – reminds us of the statement of Our Lord the Most High:

And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. [Al-Kahf: 45]

Verily this life – O servants of Allah – quickly passes us by, it quickly passes us by and our condition is not except three: Youth, then old age and then death. (Like the line of poetry says):

‘The last thing an individual is called is ‘old man ‘ and what follows that from the names he is given is ‘the deceased’.

So glad tidings – O servants of Allah- for the one who reflects upon that which has passed and revived the present and what will come with righteous actions.

{So reflect O you who have intellects}

Shortening the beard to find work in Europe – Shaykh Fawzaan [Video|Ar-En]

Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad Abdullah hafizhahullaah

Question:

Is it permissible for the person living in Europe to shorten his beard if his beard has caused him a problem finding work?

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan hafizhahullaah:

Adhere to the Sunnah in any location on Earth and do not look to please the people and complying with them. Adhere to the Sunnah regarding the beard and other aspects of the Sunnah and do not abandon anything from your religion in order to please the people. This is AI-Mudaahanah (the type of flattery which has been forbidden).

The Ruling on Speaking while the Quraan is being Recited – Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

The Ruling on Speaking while the Quraan is being Recited from a tape/CD/recorder

Question:

What is the legislative ruling for talking during the recitation of the Qur’an in general gatherings, like if the Qur’an is recited from a tape and a group of people are talking, what is the ruling on this action?

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen:

Allah the Most High states, {So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and give it due attention so that you may receive mercy}. [Soorah Al-‘Araaf: 204]

Thus, if we have a recorder playing the sound of a reciter (while we are talking); either we turn off the recorder or we listen to him. However. remaining in our chatter and talking as if we only hear the sounds of humans, then this is contrary to having manners with the Quran.

So here I say, that either we turn off the recorder or listen to it. Even if one of them was listening and the others continued to chat, then that one individual lowers the sound so that no one hears it except him.

Rejuvenating the heart after repeatedly sinning – Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee

Question :

This questioner asks, ‘How does a person rejuvenate his heart after repeatedly sinning?

Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee Al-Madkhali:

He rejuvenates it firstly by distancing himself from sinning. This is the first thing.

Secondly, distancing himself from the reasons for sinning like bad company or similar things, looking at prohibited things or similar actions, listening to prohibited things or travelling to do prohibited things, (he leaves) every reason which leads to this (sinning).

So he distances himself from sinning by making Towbah (repentance) and he distances himself from sins.

Also, he is to sit with righteous people, those whom we previously spoke about. From these people are those whose companionship is like air, if it is cut off, you die, you breathe with them, and thus it is upon you to sit with the righteous. Be companions with them and stick with them as you acquire an immense amount of good by sitting with them. They protect you, with the grace of Allah and His mercy, from returning to that which you were upon.

Also, it is upon you to increase your reading of the Quran and likewise it is upon you to beseech and supplicate to your Lord the Most High, the One who gives blessings, to protect you just as He gave you success to make Towbah (repentence), ask Him to protect you for as long as what remains from your life and put yourself before Allah frequently supplicating with this du’a. Ask Allah to have mercy upon you, to protect you and make you steadfast, and to make your heart firm. Increase making du’a for these things as verily Allah the Most High does not dissapoint the one who supplicates to Him.

If the Eid Coincides With the Day of Al-Jumu ah – Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad ‘Abdullah حفظه الله
Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim

Question:

May Allah grant you good. The questioner from Yemen, Hasan Saalih asks, ‘Regarding the day of ‘Eid, Eid al Fitr or ‘Eid al Adha, if it coincides with the day of al Jumu’ah, what are the legislative rulings concerning this?

Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen:

If the ‘Eid coincides with al-Jumu’ah, whether it be ‘Eid al Fitr or Eid al Adha, then it is obligatory that the ‘Eid prayer is prayed and that Jumu’ah is prayed. Then it is said to whoever prayed ‘Eid prayer and was not the imam, if he wishes he may pray Jumu’ah or if he wishes he may pray Dhuhr in his home instead. This is the summary of the issue.

Regarding the hadeeth: “Indeed, we will give the khutbah, thus whoever wishes to stay for the khutbah is to sit and stay and whoever wishes to leave, may leave.”

The majority of the People of Knowledge are of the opinion that this hadeeth is mursal and from those scholars who were of this opinion include: Ibn Ma’een, Abu Zur’ah ar-Raazee, an-Nasaa’ee, Abu Daawood, al-Bayhaqeeand al-Waadi’ee. And mursal is from the categories of weak hadeeth.

Does ‘Umrah in Ramadan compensate for Hajj? – Shaykh Ibn Baaz

Source: http://www.binbaz.org.sa/node/19904
Translated by Abu Afnaan Muhammad Abdullah hafidhahullaah
Video Courtesy: Bilal Nahim

Question:

Does ‘Umrah in the month of Ramadan satisfy for the obligation of Hajj due to the Messenger’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) statement, “Whoever performs ‘Umrah in Ramadan is like the one who makes Hajj with me.”

Shaykh Abdul- Azeez Bin Baaz:

Umrah in Ramadan does not compensate for Hajj. However, it has the merit/virtue of Hajj due to his (صلى الله عليه وسلم) statement, ‘Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj’ or he said ‘a Hajj with me‘.

This means in regards to merit and reward and it does not mean it is equivalent to it and replaces it such that he does not have to perform Hajj. No, rather he still must perform the Hajj, the Hajj of Islam (the obligatory Hajj) even if he makes ‘Umrah in Ramadan according to all of the scholars. Thus, with ‘Umrah in Ramadan, the merit of Hajj is attained from the aspect of reward and excellence, but it does not compensate for the Hajj of Islam.

Question:

What is obligatory upon the individual who has a Wet Dream [1] during the daytime in Ramadan? We would like the answer and may Allah reward you.

Shaykh ‘Abdul -‘Azeez ibn Baaz:

Nothing becomes obligatory due to a wet dream. If a man or woman has a wet dream in Ramadan and he/she is fasting, then there is nothing obligatory upon him/her as this does not occur due to one’s choice. If he dreams that he/she is having sexual intercourse and then sees that sperm has emitted, the fast is valid as Allah does not burden a person with more than they can bear.

This is an issue in which there is consensus between the scholars that there is nothing binding upon the person (in this situation) and all praise is due to Allah. Likewise, if he were to imagine and due to this, ejaculated, his fast is valid as it did not happen due to his choice.

[1] wet dream is a spontaneous orgasm during sleep that includes ejaculation for a male, or vaginal wetness or an orgasm (or both) for a female (source: wikipedia)

Recommended Sunnah actions upon the birth of a newborn? – Shaykh Muqbil

Question :

What are the recommended Sunnah actions upon the birth of a newborn?

Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadee Al-Waadi’ee:

The recommended sunnah actions: Rather what is obligatory is the ‘Aqeeqah as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated: “Every child is mortgaged with his ‘Aqeeqah. ‘And the ‘Aqeeqah is two sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl”. That is one affair, the other affair is selecting a good name; meaning naming him with a pleasant name as Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Abdillah ibn Umar that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “The most beloved names to Allah are ’Abdulah and ’Abdur Rahman”.

Beware beware! From naming your newborn with the names of the kufaar like George or the names of oppressors like Saddam, Ma’mar al Qadhafi or Hafidh Asad. So beware of naming it with these names. Also, naming the newborn Jamal is permissible. However, if what is desired from this is naming after Jamal Abdul Nasir -May Allah not have mercy upon him- then no. What is important is to choose a good name.

After that, also choosing a righteous wet nurse as the child is influenced by the woman who breastfeeds him. Also, beware beware of breastfeeding from an imbecilic woman or from a crazy woman or a woman suffering from a nervous condition as all of these affect the child, wallahul musta’aan

Question Concerning Ramadan – honorable Sheikh – Do Backbiting and Tale Bearing in Ramadan break the fast and what are helpful things which assist in contemplation and fearing Allah in the prayer?

Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz:

Backbiting and Tale Bearing are two major sins. However, they do not break the fast, but the person incurs a grevious wrong doing as they are major sins, in Ramadan and in other months, yet they do not break the fast.
