The Means of Increasing One’s Eemaan – Shaykh Khalid ‘Uthmaan al-Misree [Audio|Ar-En]

The Means of Increasing One's Eemaan by Shaykh Khalid 'Uthmaan al-Misree

Listen / Download Mp3 Here (Time 59:17)

On the authority of ‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Amr al-‘Aas, The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“Indeed Eemaan is worn out inside one of you just like a thawb (garment) is worn out, so ask Allaah to revive Eemaan in your hearts.”

The lofty rank and high station eemaan possesses is not something obscure, as it is unquestionably the most important duty as well as being the most imperative of all obligations. It is also the greatest and most glorious of them. All the good in the world and the Hereafter is dependent upon the presence of eemaan and on its soundness and integrity.

Eemaan holds such a multitude of benefits, ripe fruits, delicious produce, constant food and continual goodness.

It is within this context that those certain folk embarked upon and competed with each other in directing their attention to trying to actualize and fulfill eemaan. For the Muslim who is granted the tawfeeq, his concern for his eemaan is greater than any other concern he may have – and this must be so. When this became evident to the Salaf of this Ummah, the first and best of this Ummah, their concern for their eemaan was very eminent and the attention they gave to it was enormous.

They, may Allaah be pleased and have mercy upon them, used to tend to their eemaan, inspect their actions, and give each other advice. Reports of this nature from the Salaf are numerous. Some of their statements include:

‘Umar Ibn al-Khattaab (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) used to say to his companions: “Come on, so that we may increase our eemaan”.

Aboo Dardaa’(radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) used to say: “It is from the intelligence of the servant to know whether he is increasing or decreasing, and indeed, it is from the intelligence of the servant to know how, where and when the whispers of shaytaan appear to him.”

‘Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn ‘Amr al-Awzaa’ee (rahimahullaah) was asked about eemaan: “Does it increase?” He replied, “Yes, until it becomes like mountains. He was then asked, “Does it decrease?” He answered, “Yes, up until there is nothing left of it.” [Causes Behind the Increase and Decrease of Eemaan by Shaykh ‘Abdur-Razzaak al-‘Abbaad from AbdurRahman. org]

Thus, it can be seen that the matter of eemaan is a tremendous affair, which each one of us must pay close attention to.

Our Shaykh Khalid ‘Uthmaan (hafidhahullaah) will admonish us concerning this crucial topic and explain to us the ways in which we can increase our eemaan and by the Permission of Allaah we will all act upon the advices offered and thus have our eemaan renewed and increased.

We ask Allaah to grant us all lasting eemaan, true certainty and beneficial knowledge.

Sisters! Watch your step – Hadith

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “It is not for the women (to walk in) the middle of the path.” [Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan (5717) and graded as “Hasan li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (856)]

On the authority of Abu Usayd رضي الله عنه that he heard the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم say when heصلى الله عليه وسلم was coming out of the Masjid, and men and women were mingled in the road: “Draw back! For you must not walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road. Then women were keeping so close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.” [Sunan Abu Dawood (5272) and graded as “Hasan li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee (2/537)]

And today we have women not only walking in the middle of the path, but a group of them together will even block the path in the shopping malls and other places.

The Weight of ‘Laa ilaaha illAllaah’ – Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee

The Weight of ‘Laa ilaaha illAllaah’

`Abdullaah ibn `Amr said, “Allaah’s Messenger sallAllaahu ` alayhi wa sallam said,

‘A man from my nation will be called out in front of the whole of the creation on the Day of Resurrection.  So ninety-nine scrolls will be laid out for him.  Each of the scrolls will be as far as the eye can see.  Then it will be said, “Do you deny anything from this?” So he will say, “No, O my Lord.” So it will be said, “Do you have any excuse or any good deed?” So the man will fear and he will say, “No.”  So it will be said: “Yes indeed, you have good deeds with Us.  You will  not be wronged with regard to them.” So a parchment will be brought out for him containing, ‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. So he will say, “O my Lord, what is this parchment in comparison to those scrolls?” So it will be said, “You will not be wronged.” So the scrolls will be placed on one scale and that parchment will be placed on one scale.  So the scrolls will be lighter and the parchment will outweigh.’”

Reported by Ibnul-Mubaarak in his book az-Zuhd and in his Musnad and by Imaam Ahmad and by at-Tirmithee and Ibn Maajah and others besides.

Shaykh al-Albaanee declared this hadeeth saheeh, authentic.

Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee hafizahullaah mentioned some points of benefit with regard to this hadeeth.  He said, “The hadeeth contains a number of points of benefit.

“The first benefit is that the people of sins will be beneath al-mashee·ah (Allaah’s Will and Wish).  If Allaah wishes He will forgive them by His favour.  And if He wishes He will punish them by His justice.

“The second point of benefit is that whoever is such that his eemaan (true belief) and his towheed is strong, and his attachment to Allaah the Mighty and Majestic, this fact may be a means for wiping away all of his evil deeds.  And there is no clearer proof for this than the fact that this small parchment will outweigh and overcome all of the rest of the scrolls.

“The third point of benefit is that the person who is guilty of major sin, he does not become a disbeliever, as the Khawaarij and the Mu`tazilah claimed.  Rather he is beneath mashee·atullaah (the Wish and Will of Allaah).   So even if he is punished, then still he will not remain forever in the Fire.

“The fourth point of benefit is the tremendous virtue of Laa ilaaha illAllaah, none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah over the rest of deeds. So when a Muslim says it, knowing its meaning and acting in accordance with it, then that is the case, tremendous.

“The fifth point of benefit is establishment of al-meezaan (Balance of deeds) with which the deeds will be weighed on the Day of Resurrection, and that it is a balance which is true and real.  It will be erected on the Open Plain of the Resurrection before the passing over the Siraat (Bridge).  This is the most correct of the sayings which the People of Knowledge mention.”

What Has Been Said About Fortune-tellers and Their Like

Muslim has narrated, on the authority of one of the wives of the Prophet (Hafsah – may Allah be pleased with her), that Allah’s Prophet said:

“Whoever went to a fortune-teller and asked him about some matter (i.e. of the unseen) and believed him, will have his prayer rejected for forty days.”

73. Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) during the sermon of the Farewell Pilgrimage saying, “Be mindful of your duty to Allah; perform your five daily Salat, observe Saum during the month (of Ramadan) , pay the Zakat on your properties and obey your leaders; (if you do so) you will enter the Jannah of your Rubb”.
[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: The word Wada`, means to say farewell. The Farewell Pilgrimage was the last pilgrimage, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) performed, and on this occasion he bade farewell to the people and for this reason it came to be known as Hajjat-ul-Wada`. Obedience of  the rulers is stressed but it is conditional, that is to say, they are to be obeyed only if their orders are not against the injunctions of Allah. Similarly, their obedience is obligatory till such time that they do not do anything which amounts to open disbelief. If any of these two things occurs, then no obedience would be due to them.

O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqûn (pious – see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. ( Noble Qur’an 49:13)

Narrated by Abu huraira, The prophet peace be upon him said: “Truly, Allah does not look at your outward forms and wealth, but rather at your hearts and your works” (Sahih Muslim, 4.1389: hadith 2564)

In his final sermon the Prophet Muhammad, Allah’s Blessings and Peace be upon him, said:

“There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab. Neither is the white superior over the black, nor is the black superior over the white except by piety.”

The Attack on the Madhahib and the forbidding of Taqlid (blind following) of today – Shaykh al-Fawzan

Question:

People who subscribe to knowledge and especially young students look down upon Fiqh-matters and especially the books of the Madhâhib. Their argument is that they do not consist of evidence. They even look down upon the Ijtihâd of the Imams in this matter. What do you advise in terms of this and the respect for the Imams of the Madhâhib and the importance of the Madhâhib. There are people today who look down upon them, criticize them and say that they are freed from the Madhâhib and that they take directly from the Qur’ân and Sunnah.

Shaykh al-Fawzân:

It is a deviation. We have said that and clarified it. We said that the one who fulfils the conditions of Ijtihâd does Ijtihâd. He is not allowed to follow blindly. THESE ARE HOWEVER FEW TODAY, IF THEY EVEN EXIST. The more time passes, the more the knowledge disappears. The prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Allâh does not seize this knowledge by pulling it out from the chests of men. It is seized by the death of the scholars. When there then are no scholar left, the people take the ignorant as leaders who in turn will answer without knowledge and go astray and lead others astray.”

The more time passes, the more the knowledge disappears. It has also been reported that by the end of time, few scholars will exist and many readers [will exist]. Many readers who lack understanding will exist.

It is wrong to ignore the Fiqh-books. Fiqh is the richness of this Ummah. It is a great richness. However, that does not mean that we take everything that is in them to heart. We filter (I.e. right from mistakes). The one who has the capacity filters. He takes that which is strongest according to the evidence. We said that there are four types of people; an absolute Mujtahid, a Mujtahid within his Madhhab who considers what opinion is the correct one, one who follows blindly and a layman. This fiqh is, as said, a great richness in the hands of the scholars. They study it and take help from it in order to understand the Qur’ân and Sunnah. They take its verdicts and the statements of the Imams that agree with the evidence and leave that which contradicts the evidence.

As for the one who ignores it and says that they shall do a new Ijtihâd… Who is the one who is to make a new Ijtihâd? There is none! It is a deviation. Are you who say that you shall make a new Ijtihâd as the four Imams? Such as Imâm Ahmad and Imâm Mâlik? What does this mean? I wish that they existed. But you don’t have more than the smallest who follows blindly. You have nothing to come with. Don’t destroy yourself. Don’t destroy others. Fear Allâh! It is allowed to blindly follow in necessity. Allâh (ta’âlâ) said:

فَاسْأَلُواْ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ

“So ask the people of the message if you do not know.” (16:43)

This is a blind following in necessity. It is OBLIGATORY to blindly follow in necessity. It is prohibited to blindly follow in the case of capability. It is forbidden for the one who is able to make Ijtihâd to blindly follow. In necessity, it is obligatory to blindly follow. It is not fully prohibited to blindly follow and neither is it fully allowed to blindly follow. The matter is thusly detailed. We do not say that you should take to heart everything that exists in Fiqh. We say that you should filter and follow that which is based on evidence. They are after all more knowledgeable than you about proving and the extraction of rulings. You have nothing to come with. You should rely on them and the words of the Fuqahâ’ and look to their evidence. If you are able to consider, do so. If you are not able to, you follow that which is (written) there even if you do not know of the evidence. For this is a necessity. This has to be understood. There are people who fight the Madhâhib today. Where should the people go? Should they deviate? There is one who has authored a book by the name “Islâm without Madhâhib”. What without Madhâhib? Where should the people go then? Should they go to the ignoramuses? This is a great problem.

Advice to those who are Tried with Watching Porn – Shaykh Sulaymaan ar-Ruhaylee

Translated by: Yasin Abu Ibrahim
Verified by: Raha Batts

Question:

What is your advice for those who have been tried with looking at pornographic photos and movies? Especially with the presence of many kinds of media which are available to everyone.

Shaykh Sulaymaan bin Saleemullaah ar-Ruhaylee:

O Allaah! O my Lord! O Ever Living! O One who sustains and protects all that exists! O Originator of the heavens and the earth! O Allaah! Cure his heart, O Lord of all that exists! O Allaah, turn him away from this calamity, O Lord of all that exists!

My advice to myself and to my brothers, is that we should know that the eye is a blessing from Allaah. It is from the greatest blessings of Allaah upon us! A blessing that reoccurs in every moment! So we should use it to obey Allaah and we shouldn’t use it to disobey Allaah. And we have to know that the one who uses the blessings of Allaah to disobey Him, then he is on the verge of it not being a blessing anymore, even if it stays.

And the second affair, is that we should remind ourselves that we will be asked about this eye in front of Allaah, the Exalted and Most High. When you sit in your room while there is no one (with you), and you look (to these images), then remember that you will stand in front of Allaah and He will ask you about this eye and these things you were looking at.

“There is no one among you except that his Lord will speak to him without any interpreter between them. He will look to his right and will not see anything except that which he sent forth. And he will look to his left and will not see anything except that which he sent forth. Then he will look in front of him and will not see anything except Hellfire.”

So let him remember this!

And the third affair, is that he should remember that Allaah is with him; that Allaah sees him, hears him and knows everything about him! So Allaah is (constantly) with him with His Hearing, His Seeing and His Knowledge. So when you are by yourself and you are watching these movies and disgusting things, then remember that Allaah sees you right now and that Allaah knows about your situation! So do not say, “I am by myself,” but remind yourself that Allaah sees you.

It has been mentioned that one of the Salaf used to differentiate between one of his students and the rest (of his students). So the students asked him about this, and then he wanted to clarify to the students why he differentiates. He gave each student a bird and said, “Slaughter it where nobody sees you.” So the students went and returned the next day, and all of them had slaughtered their bird except this one student. He said to this student, “O so-and-so, what have you done?” He answered, “I went there and there and there…” So he said, “And why have you not fulfilled my command?” He answered, “Every time I went to a place, I knew that Allaah is seeing me. So I couldn’t find a place where nobody sees me.” So he said, “Because of this, I love him. {Verily, the most honourable of you with Allaah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwaa.} (49:13)”

So we should remember this and that Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, sees us. Then, O my brother, time is short and it passes with obedience and disobedience. By Allaah, time doesn’t stop with an obedient person, nor with a disobedient person. Remind yourself that if you are patient during these minutes, then it will pass without any sin. And that if you perform this sin, then it will pass with the sin and it will result in corruption in your heart, it will make your life difficult and it will cause wretchedness for you. And perhaps you will be prevented from a blessing because of this.

So remind yourself with this, and then remember that the eye will testify against you. The eye will testify against you with that which it has seen, in front of Allaah, the Exalted and Most High. So fear Allaah, the Exalted and Most High, and honour the greatness of Allaah. And if you do this, then you will be aided against Iblees, with the might and power of Allaah.

With the advice to perform a lot of du’aa (supplications). O brothers, whoever has been tried with a sin, then let him humble himself before Allaah in the last part of the night (saying), “O Allaah! Forgive me! O Lord, You are Most Knowledgeable about my situation! O Lord, I have been tried with this disease, so make me hate it, O Allaah! O Allaah, separate me from it as You have separated the East from the West!”

Humbling oneself and truthfully turning to Allaah is from the greatest means which lead to the rectification of your situation. So, O my brother… And this question of you indicates good and indicates that you want good and that you want to get rid (of this evil). Pray at night, for the arrows of the night do not miss their target. And humble yourself before Allaah while you are prostrating (saying), “O my Lord, O my Lord, O my Lord! Forgive me and save me from this calamity! O my Lord, make me hate it! O my Lord, separate me from it as You have separated the East from the West!” And Allaah is All-Hearing, Responsive. He is Near to His servants, He does not reject a truthful servant. And He feels Shy to reject the supplication of his truthful servant.

So turn to Allaah, the Exalted and Most High. And Allaah, the Most High, knows best.

Terrorism – See how Shaykh al-Fawzan floored Suicide-Bombers

Shaykh al-Fawzân: It is obligatory upon the Muslims to respect the governmental facilities and to take care of them and make sure that they develop. What should then be said about devastating facilities and to blow them up and the likes? Not even the mosques are safe from them anymore. They blow them up and throw bombs into them. They kill the people in their mosques. They blow up their buildings and facilities. In addition, they claim that it is from Jihâd for Allâh’s sake and that they are Mujâhidûn.

One has to be aware of this and alert those who are deceived by these and think that this really is from Jihâd and that the deed is noble [while it absolutely is not]. The deed is in fact a destruction and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption. This is from spreading corruption upon the earth and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption.

Morover, innocent people are killed. People whom Allâh has forbidden to kill without due right. They commit sins and they may even kill themselves. They blow themselves up and say that it is martyrdom. How can a self-killer be a martyr when the messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that he is in the Fire? Allâh (jalla wa ‘alâ) said:

“Do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. And whoever does that in aggression and injustice – then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah , is [always] easy.” (4:29-30)

The prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said in the authentic Hadîth:

“The one who kills himself with poison will have it in his hand and drink it slowly and swallow it in hell. The one who kills himself with an iron will have the iron in the hand and stab himself with it in hell. The one who kills himself by throwing himself down a mountain will be thrown down into hell.” (Muslim 175)

A self-killer has done a Kabîrah (great sin). How can he be a martyr? How can one say that he is going to paradise when the prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that he is going to the Fire? Allâh allowed martyrdom to be reached if one dies for His sake. THEY (MARTYRS) ARE KILLED. They were killed:

“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead.” (3:169)

“And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , “They are dead.” Rather, they are alive” (2:154)

It is the one who dies in Jihâd under the banner of the Muslims who is a martyr. The one who is killed by the enemy. As for the person who takes his own life, he has done a great sin and risks ending up in the Fire.

When the prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked about the person who fights with vigilance, courage and so on and who from among them fights for Allah’s sake, he said:

“The one who fights so that the word of Allâh shall be the highest fights for Allâh’s sake.”

The matter should be referred to the word of Allâh and His messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and not to deviant destroyers who brainwash people and give them these foul opinions.

That they destroy the administrations and facilities of the country and even the mosques goes to show that they have nothing to do with Jihâd for Allâh’s sake.

If one risks being cursed for having urinated on the road or in the shadow of a tree, one may ask how the matter is if one blows up buildings with people in them.

These people are obliged to repent before Allâh (‘azza wa jall) and to see the difference between friend and enemy and to learn beneficial knowledge by which Allâh guides them with to the straight way. They should not take knowledge from misleading people.
