Whoever abandons the Jumu’ah & congregational prayers in the mosque, without a valid excuse – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Bismillaah

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 76 : Point 128
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

Whoever abandons the Jumu’ah Prayer and the congregational prayers in the mosque, without a valid excuse, then he is an innovator [1]. The valid excuse is such as an illness, because of which he is unable to go out to the mosque, or fear of an oppressive ruler and whatever is besides that then there is no excuse for you.

NOTES

[1] Congregational payer in the mosque is an obligation upon the sane, adult males who are able to attend. This is the most correct saying of the scholars.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A blind man came to the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I have no one to guide me to the mosque.” He, therefore, sought his permission to perform Salat (prayer) in his house. He (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) granted him permission. When the man turned away, he called him back, and said, “Do you hear the Adhan (call to prayer)?” He replied in the affirmative. The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) then directed him to respond to it.

[Muslim]. [The Excellence of Performing Salat (Prayers) in Congregation – Riyadh ul saaliheen]

Ibn Mas’ood (radiAllaahu anhu) said:

“Whoever would be happy to meet Allaah tomorrow as a Muslim, then let him preserve (in establishing) these five prayers from the place where they are called from (i.e. masjids), for verily, Allaah has legislated for your Prophet the ways of guidance. And indeed these (five prayers in the masjid) are from the ways of guidance. And if you were to pray in your homes as this man who refrains (to pray in the masjid) prays in his home, then you would have abandoned the Sunnah of your Prophet. And if you were to abandon the Sunnah of your Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) you would go astray. There is not a man that performs the ablution and does it well, then sets out to go to one of these masjids except that Allaah records a good deed for him for every step he takes and raises him up one level and erases one evil deed due to it. You have certainly seen us, and no one would refrain from the prayer (in the masjid) except the hypocrite whose hypocrisy was well known. And indeed a man would be brought supported by two men until he was made to stand in the row (for prayer).”

Greetings of Salaam are to be given to all of Allah’s worshippers – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Bismillaah

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 76 : Point 127
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

The greeting of salaam is to be given to all of Allah’s worshippers.

[Souncloud Audio Link

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,

“When Allah created Adam (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam), He said to him: `Go and greet that company of angels who are sitting there – and then listen to what they are going to say in reply to your greetings because that will be your greeting and your off-spring’s.’ Adam (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said to the angels: `As-Salamu `Alaikum (may you be safe from evil).’ They replied: `As-Salamu `Alaikum wa Rahmatullah (may you be safe from evil, and Mercy of Allah be upon you).’ Thus adding in reply to him: `wa Rahmatullah (and Mercy of Allah)’ to his greeting.”

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Allah, the Exalted, says:

O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and greeted those in them.” (24:27)

But when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah (i.e., say: As-Salamu `alaikum – peace be on you), blessed and good.” (24:61)

When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally.” (4:86)

Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibril (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? When they came in to him, and said, `Salam (peace be upon you)!’ He answered: `Salam (peace be upon you).”’ (51:24,25)

Commanding the Good and Forbidding the Evil is Obligatory – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Bismillaah

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 75 : Point 126
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

Commanding the good and forbidding the evil is obligatory, except with regard to one whose use of  the sword or the rod, you fear.

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,

“Whoever amongst you sees an evil, he must change it with his hand; if he is  unable to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart; and that is the weakest form of Faith”. [Muslim].

Allah, the Exalted, says:

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma`ruf (i.e., Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.” (3:104)

“You (true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Sunnah) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma`ruf (i.e., Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden)”. (3:110)

“The believers, men and women, are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another; they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma`ruf (i.e., Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e., polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden)”. (9:71)

The hypocrites, men and women, are from one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief and polytheism of all kinds and all that Islam has forbidden), and forbid (people) from Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and they close their hands [from giving (spending in Allah’s Cause) alms, etc.]. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). (9:67)

“O my son! Aqim-is-Salat (perform As-Salat), enjoin (people) for Al-Ma’ruf (Islamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befall you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allah with no exemption. (Surah Luqman 31:17)

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

The five daily prayers are permissible behind anyone except a Jahmee, since he is one who totally negates (all of the attributes of Allah). If you have prayed behind him, then repeat your prayer. And if he is your Imam on the day of Jumu’ah, and he is a ruler, then pray behind him, (but) repeat your prayer [1]. Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 73 : Point 122
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

The Stars Have No Control Over Anything – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Bismillaah

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 69 : Point 115
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

Look into the stars sparingly, just enough to help you to know the times of the prayer. And turn away from whatever besides that, since it invites to apostasy

[Souncloud Audio Link

Narrated Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani: The Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Fajr prayer at Hudaibiya after a rainy night. On completion of the prayer, he faced the people and said, “Do you know what your Lord has said (revealed)?” The people replied, “Allah and His Apostle know better.” He said, “Allah has said,

‘In this morning some of my slaves remained as true believers and some became non-believers; whoever said that the rain was due to the Blessings and the Mercy of Allah had belief in Me and he disbelieves in the stars, and whoever said that it rained because of a particular star had no belief in Me but believes in that star.’ “

[Al-Bukhari] [Muhsin Khan’s Translation]

Qatadah (radi Allaahu anhu) said,

“These stars were only created for three purposes: Allah created them as adornment for the heaven (sky), as missiles for the devils and as signs for navigation. Therefore, whoever seeks to interpret any other meanings for them other than these, then verily he has spoken with his own opinion, he has lost his portion and burdened himself with that which he has no knowledge of.”

Ibn Jarir and Ibn Abi Hatim both recorded this statement.

When Fitnah occurs, Remain in your House – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Bismillaah

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 68 : Point 114
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

When discord (al-fitnah) occurs, then remain within your house [1] and flee from proximity of discord (fitnah). And beware of asabiyyah (bigoted fanaticism) and all fighting that occurs between the Muslims for this worldly life, then it is discord (fitnah). So fear and be dutiful to Allah, He Who is Alone, having no partner. And do not go out in it, and do not fight in it, do not fall into it, do not take sides, and do not incline towards one side and do not love anything from their affairs, since it is said, “He who loves the actions of a people, whether they are good or bad, will be just like the one who did them.” May Allah guide us and you to those things that are pleasing to Him and keep us and you away from the acts of disobedience to Him.

NOTES

[1] Ibn az-Zubayr (radi Allaahu anhu) narrates: My close friend, Abul-Qaasim (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) advised me,

If you reach anything of the tumult (fitnah), go to Uhud and blunt your sword upon it, then remain in your house.”

Reported by Ahmad in al-Musnad (4/226 and 5/69). Its isnaad is hasan, as has been mentioned by Shaikh al-Albaanee (rahimahullaah) in as-Saheehah (3/no.1373).

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 67 : Point 113 (Part C)
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

Whoever allows anything contrary to what occurs in this book, then he is not practicing Allah’s religion and he has rejected all of it, just as if a servant were to believe in everything that Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, said, except that he doubted about a single letter, then he has rejected everything that Allah, the Most High, said and he would be disbeliever, just as the testification that ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah’ will not be accepted from a person unless it is accompanied by true and sincere  intention  and by complete certainty.

Likewise Allah will not accept anything from the Sunnah from one who rejects a part of it. So whoever rejects anything from the Sunnah then he has rejected the whole of the Sunnah. So it is upon you to accept, leave aside contending and disputing; it is not from Allah’s religion at all. And your time, in particular, is a time of evil, so fear and be dutiful to Allah.

Upon you is to affirm, to submit, to surrender to & to be pleased with what is contained in this book – Sharh as-Sunnah | Dawud Burbank [Audio|En]

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 66 : Point 113 (Part B)
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

.. So fear and be dutiful to Allah, O servant of Allah! And upon you is to affirm, to submit, to surrender to and to be pleased with what is contained in this book. Do not hide this book from any one from the people of the Qiblah. Perhaps, by means of it, Allah may bring a confused person back from his state of confusion, or  a person of innovation back from his  innovation, or one astray back from his misguidance so that he is saved through it.

So fear and be dutiful to Allah and adhere to the original old affair. And it is what I have described to you in this book. May Allah have mercy upon a servant, and may be mercy on his parents who reads this book, distributes it, acts upon it, calls to it and uses it as a proof for it is the religion of Allah [1] and  the religion of Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam).

NOTES

[1] The Religion of Allah, as is well known, is the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallallaahu alihi wa sallam) as understood by the Pious Predecessors. As for the speech of people, everyone is correct in some things and incorrect in others, except for the Prophet (sallallaahu alihi wa sallam).

Sharh as-Sunnah : Lesson 65 : Point 112
Shaykh Fawzan | Dawud Burbank [Audio|English]

Imaam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

Know, May Allah have mercy upon you! that there is nothing between a servant and his being a Believer or becoming an Disbeliever except that he denies something which Allah has sent down, or he adds to or takes away from the Speech of Allah, or he denies anything which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has said or  anything the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) spoke with. So fear and be dutiful to Allah. May Allah have mercy upon you! Look to yourself and beware of exceeding the limits in the religion for that is not from the way of truth at all.
