1 – Knowing that Allaah is the One Who forgives

From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: that Allaah Azza wa Jal said:

من علم أني ذو قدرة على مغفرة الذنوب غفرت له و لا أبالي ما لم يشرك بي شيئا

‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330]

2 – Hundred times a Day

From al Aghra -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

يا أيها الناس ! توبوا إلى الله واستغفروه فإني أتوب إلى الله وأستغفره في كل يوم مائة مرة

‘O you people repent to Allaah and seek His forgiveness, since indeed I repent to Allaah and I seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day.’ [Collected by Ahmad & Albaani declared it to have a saheeh Isnad in Saheehah no. 1452]

3 – Seeking Forgiveness for Parents

Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيۡتِيَ مُؤۡمِنٗا وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۖ

– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. – [Nuh: 28]

Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرٗا ٢٤

– and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’ – [al-Isra: 24]

From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

إن الرجل لترفع درجته في الجنة فيقول : أنى ( لي ) هذا ؟ فيقال : باستغفار ولدك لك

‘Indeed Allaah raises the grade of a righteous slave of His in Paradise so much that the slave of Allaah says: ‘O My Lord! From where is all this for me? He will say: ‘By your son seeking forgiveness for you.’ [Collected by Ibn Majah, Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shaybah in ‘al-Mussanaf’, Asbahani in ‘Targheeb’, Baghawi in ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’, and by ad-Diyaa & Albaani declared its Isnad as hasan in Saheehah no.1598]

Abul Hasan as-Sindi -Rahimullaah- (d. 1138 A.H.) said in his explanation of ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’:

‘Therefore it is necessary for the son to seek forgiveness for his parents.’ [From ‘Sunnan Ibn Majah’ No. 3660]

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan was asked:

‘My mother seeks forgiveness and makes Tasbeeh a hundred times a day for her parents daily, what is the ruling of seeking forgiveness for parents after they have passed away?

The Shaykh answered:

‘This is a good thing, seeking forgiveness for parents and the Muslims, a person seeks forgiveness for himself, his parents and the Muslims, this is a matter which is legislated.

– My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer- like Nuh – alayhi as-Salaam- said.

– Seek forgiveness for your sins and the believing men and women. – Like Allaah said to our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

Seeking forgiveness for a person, his parents, his relatives, and his Muslim brothers, the living and the dead, is a matter which is needed, and a person should do this a lot.’ [Taken from: http://www.alfawzan.af.org.sa/node/13605%5D

4 – Seeking Forgiveness for the Believers

From Ubadah bin as-Samitt -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

من استغفر للمؤمنين و للمؤمنات كتب الله له بكل مؤمن و مؤمنة حسنة

‘Whoever sought forgiveness for believing men and believing women, Allaah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.’ [Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 6026]

The Real Meaning of Zuhd (Not having a love for the Dunyaa) – Shaykh al-Uthaymeen

Published by Miraath Publications
Listen to Audio Excerpt @ : Day 29: The Real Meaning of Zuhd (Not having a love for the Dunyaa)

a) AbdurRahmaan bin Ali bin Muhammad Ibn Jawzi (d. 598 A.H.) said:

‘Zuhd is not just leaving wealth or giving wealth to show that you are generous and strong, nor to get people’s hearts to incline to you, on the contrary Zuhd is leaving worldly things due to having the knowledge that it is insignificant in relation to the immeasurable value of the Hereafter.’

[Taken from: ‘Mukhtasir Minhaj al-Qasideen’ p.324]

b) Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The intent of Zuhd is not rejection of having possessions, since in fact Sulayman and Dawood –alayhim as-Salaam- were the ones who had the most Zuhd from amongst the people at their time and they had been endowed with wealth, land and women.

Our Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had definitely the most Zuhd above all mankind, and he had nine women. ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib, AbdurRahman bin ‘Awf, Zubayr and Uthmaan -Radi Allaahu anhum- were from those who had Zuhd even though they had wealth, and there were many others like them.’

[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) Volume 2/13-14)]

c) Al-Hasan said:

‘Having Zuhd of the Dunyaa is not prohibiting oneself from that which is Halaal, nor by wasting money, but it is knowing that what is in Allaah’s Hand is more trustworthy than one’s own-self and what he has in his hand (i.e. possesses).’

[Taken from ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’ by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) 285]

d) Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d.795) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Abu Sulayman said: ‘Do not testify for anyone that he has Zuhd, since indeed Zuhd is in the heart.’

No One Lives for Eternity – By Shaykh AbdulMuhsin bin Hamd al-Abaad al-Badr

Listen to Audio Excerpt @ : Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 30

Allaah Ta’ala said:

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلۡخَٰلِدُونَ ٣٤

– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad), then if you die, would they live forever? – [Anbiyya: 34]

Shaykh AbdulMuhsin said:

‘The Noble Ayaah indicates that the passage of a human is to pass away, and that Allaah did not make it such that anyone could live for eternity before the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, so eternity is not for the Prophet or for anyone else to remain. But rather everyone is moving towards passing away as Allaah Ta’ala said:

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡهَا فَانٖ ٢٦ وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ٢٧

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever.  [Rahman: 26-27]

Some of the people of knowledge said: ‘The Mushrikoon used to reject his -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – Prophet hood, and they would say: ‘Muhammad is a poet we await for him some calamity after some time, and perhaps he will die just like such and such poet died from such and such tribe. So Allaah Ta’ala mentioned that indeed Prophets before you died, and Allaah has power over His religion with victory and protection, this is how the Deen and Sharia of the Prophet is protected.’

With this Ayaah, it indicates that al-Khidr has indeed died, whether he was a Wali (friend of Allaah Azza wa Jal), or a Prophet, or Messenger, because he was a human being, and he was present at the time of Moosa –alayhim as-Salaam. And Allaah Azza wa Jal had indeed said:

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ

– And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad) –

[From ‘Min Kanooz Qur’aan’ by Shaykh AbdulMuhsin p.118]

All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow his guidance.

Preserving Good Deeds from Envy – Ibn Taymeeyah

Preserving Good Deeds from Envy
By Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728) -Rahimullaah-
Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Listen Audio Excerpt @ : Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 22

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah -Rahimullaah- mentions in his explanation of the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

ادعوا ربَّكم تضرُّعًا وخُفيةً إنه لايحبُّ المعتدين…

Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. [al-Aaraaf: 55]

there are ten benefits of hiding your Dua’, and from amongst these benefits he said:

‘Indeed the greatest of blessings is turning to Allaah and worshipping Him. Every blessing has the equivalent of it being envied by an envious person, whether openly or secretly. There is no greater blessing than of turning to Allaah and worshipping Him [making Dua’], indeed the souls of the envious are attached to that blessing.

There is nothing more secure for the person who is envied than hiding his blessing from the envious person. Indeed Yaqoob said to Yusuf -alayhi as-Sallam:

قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لاَ تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَى إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُواْ لَكَ كَيْدًا

< < O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you > >

till the end of the Ayaah.

How many of the people who have hearts, a connection and status with Allaah Ta’ala may perhaps have spoken about it, and informed people about it, and the envious one tried to plunder him over these blessings.

This is why the righteous and elderly are advised to keep their secrets with Allaah Ta’ala, and not to allow anyone to be acquainted with them.
This issue of hiding the blessing is of great benefit, its people know is benefits. Therefore, if it is commanded to do so in your Dua’/supplications, then this also includes the Dua’ for requesting this, and the Dua’ of praising Allaah.

Living and turning to Allaah Ta’ala is from the great treasures which has a right to be hidden from the eyes of the envious.’

Dividing the Qayyam al-Layl (Night Prayer) in the Last Ten nights of Ramadhaan – Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Published by Miraath Publications

Audio Excerpt: Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 19

1 – Abu Dawood as-Sijistani (d. 275 A.H.) said:

‘Imam Ahmad was asked while I was listening: Should the Qayyam – meaning the Taraweeh prayer – be delayed to the last part of the night?

He -Rahimullaah- answered:

‘No, the Sunnah of the Muslims is more beloved to me.’ [From: Masa’il Abee Dawood’ p.90]

2 – Al-Marwazi quotes from Imraan bin Haydar -Rahimullaah-:

I sent a question to al-Hasan -Rahimullaah- and I asked him about the Isha prayer in Ramadan, should we pray it then return to our homes and sleep then return to the Masjid after wards?

He rejected that and said:

‘No, Salatul- Isha then the Qayaam.’ [From ‘Qayyam al-Layl’ by al-Marwazi]

3 – Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘…and Taraweeh prayer is a Sunnah after the Isha prayer.’ [From: ‘Mukhtasir al-Fatawa’ by Baali p.81]

And he also said:

‘The Sunnah of the Taraweeh prayer is that it is prayed after the end of the Isha prayer, as is agreed upon by the Salaf and the Imams.’ [From: ‘Majmoo Fatawa’ 23/119]

4 – Shaykh Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

Questioner: ‘In the last ten nights of Ramadan, they divide up the prayer, the night prayer at the first part of the night, and the last part of the night, and this has become a continuous practice.’

The Shaykh: ‘Bida’.

Questioner: ‘How would it be then if we wanted to establish the Sunnah and make it easy for the people?’

The Shaykh: ‘They presume the like of what Umar had said, that those who delay the prayer are better. Meaning that Umar ordered Ubayy bin Ka’ab to establish the night prayer with the people after the Isha prayer, so he did so, and when Umar went out he said: ‘ This is a blessed Bida’ and those who sleep instead of it are better.’

The questioner: ‘So you mean that the situation of the night prayer is the same as it was before the last ten nights?’

The Shaykh: ‘Yes.’ [From: ‘Silsilah al-Huda wa Noor’ Tape no. 719]

5 – Shaykh Salih bin Fawzan bin Abdullaah al-Fawzan said:

‘As for the Salat-ul-Taraweehya; then this is a stressed Sunnah, and it is done straight after the Isha prayer and the optional prayers after the Isha prayer. This is what was the practice of the Muslims.

As for delaying it, as the questioner mentions, to another time, then coming to the Masjid and praying at-Taraweehya, then this is in contrast to what was practiced. The scholars of Fiqh mention that it is done after the Isha prayer and it is the optional prayers after the Isha prayer.

So if they delay it, then we do not say it is Haraam, however, it is in opposition to that which was practiced. Taraweehya is prayed in the beginning of the night, this is what was the practice.’

Knowledge and Actions – By Shaykh Rabia’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee

Knowledge & Actions
By Shaykh Rabia’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee
Compiled & translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Listen Audio Excerpt: Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 14

1 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘Learning knowledge should be for the sake of Allaah’s Face, and also for acting upon that knowledge, otherwise knowledge will have an evil consequence, so the person remains between two illnesses, either the illness of ignorance or the illness of knowledge which is not beneficial, but rather harmful.

The knowledge which Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- came with is in itself beneficial. However, if a person does not act upon it then it becomes an evil consequence for him, and harmful for him, and perhaps it could harm others.’

2 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘What is required from learning knowledge, is acting upon it, and action cannot come except after knowledge. As Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala said:

فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

-So know that Lâ ilâha ill-Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women.-  [Muhammad: 19]

Bukhari wrote a chapter heading ‘Chapter: Knowledge comes before Statements and Actions because it is obligatory upon us not to act except with knowledge, and not worship Allaah except with knowledge, so we do not worship Allaah Subhanahu – with ignorance or following desires.’

3 – Shaykh Rabia’ said:

‘The way of those misguided from the people of the Book who learnt knowledge but did not act upon it, is that their hearts became hard, and most of them became evil…. . .

If this hardness afflicts the heart then it destroys it. . . . .

So it does not accept the truth, and does not act with knowledge and refuge is sought with Allaah, and it leads to hiding knowledge and acting in opposition to knowledge. . .. .

It leads to following whims and rejection of the truth, which is clear like the sun. . . . . ’

Only Performing one Umrah in one Journey – Compiled and translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Audio Excerpt: Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 12

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- would not perform an extra Umrah exiting out of Makkah, after already having performed one, as many of the people do nowadays. Rather all the Umrahs that the Messenger performed were upon entering Makkah.

He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- lived in Makkah for thirteen years after the revelation had first descended, and it is not reported from the outset about him that he performed Umrah exiting from Makkah in that time period.

So, the Umrah that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- performed and legislated, is the Umrah of entering into Makkah, there is no Umrah for the person who is in Makkah and he goes outside the boundary of Makkah whereby he can enter again and perform Umrah. This was not ever done by anyone at the time of the Prophet, except by ‘Aeysha alone out of all those who were with her. This was because she had made the intention and entered into Ihram but had begun her menstrual cycle. So the Prophet ordered her to connect up her Umrah with the Hajj, and informed her that her Tawaf of the House and going between Safa and Marwa, would indeed be sufficient for her Hajj and Umrah together (instead of performing a separate Umrah).

So she found that her female companions were returning with a Hajj and a separate Umrah, since they had intended to perform Hajj at-Tamattu (with an Umrah and a Hajj), and they had not begun their menstrual cycle and did not have to combine their Umrah in with the Hajj. However, she would have only returned with an Umrah within her Hajj, so he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered her brother to take her to perform an Umrah from at-Tan’eem, to soothe her heart, and her brother did not perform an Umrah from Tan’eem in that Hajj nor did anyone else from those who were with him.’

[Taken from: ‘Zad al-Ma’ad’ 1/94]

Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Is it permissible for me to perform Umrah twice in one journey, since I am from Jordan. The first one from Abyaar Ali (the local name for the Meeqat Dhul Hulayfah just outside Madina), and the second from at-Tan’eem (outskirts of Makkah), just like ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha. If this is not permissible, then can I perform it for my deceased father or mother? May Allah reward you with goodness.

The Shaykh answered:

‘The person who wants to repeat an Umrah then it is necessary for him to return to the Meeqat from whence he entered into Ihraam, whether that is for his own self or for his parents.
As for entering into Ihraam from at-Tan’eem, from whence the Noble lady ‘Aeysha entered into Ihraam, then this ruling is specific for ‘Aeysha and those who are in a similar condition to her.

I term this Umrah from at-Tan’eem as the Umrah of the menstruating woman. The reason for this is because when ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha- went out with the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- to perform the farewell Hajj, and she had entered into Ihraam to perform Umrah, but when she reached a place close to Makkah, known as ‘Sarif’ the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- entered upon her and found her crying. So he said to her:

مالك أنفست

‘Why are you crying? Have you started your menstrual cycle?’

She replied: ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allaah.’

He –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

هذا أمر قد كتبه الله على بنات آدم، فاصنعي ما يصنع الحاج غير ألَّا تطوفي ولا تصلي

‘This is a matter which Allaah has written for the daughters of Adam, so do that which the person performing Hajj does, except do not perform the Tawaf and do not perform the Salat.’

So she did not perform the Tawaf or the Salat until she had become clean in Araafat, then she continued with the rites of Hajj and accomplished Hajj completely. When the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had decided to travel and return to Madina, he entered upon ‘Aeysha in her tent and again he found her crying.

He asked her: ‘What is wrong with you?’

She said: ‘What is wrong with me? The people are returning with Hajj and Umrah, and I am returning with Hajj without Umrah.’

The reason was because her menstruation had caused her Umrah to be changed to a Hajj, a Hajj Mufrad (Hajj without Umrah), so here she is saying, she is crying out of grief of what she missed out from performing an Umrah before performing the Hajj, whereas her co-wives like Umm Salamah and other than her, returned with Umrah and Hajj, and that is why was crying.

She said: ‘Why should I not cry? The people are returning with a Hajj and Umrah and I am returning with a Hajj.’ So the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had compassion on her and ordered her brother AbdurRahmaan bin Abi Bakr as-Siddiq to accompany her, with him on his camel and go out with her to at-Tan’eem. So he did that and she returned, and performed an Umrah and soothed her soul.

This is why we say, if a woman is afflicted with that which had afflicted ‘Aeysha from amongst the women, whereby her menstrual cycle started, while she wanted to perform Umrah, and she could not complete the Umrah, so that her Umrah was changed into a Hajj. So here a woman can perform Umrah in place of what she missed out on, in the same way that Allaah legislated upon the tongue of His Messenger for ‘Aeysha, so the woman who was menstruating goes out again to at-Tan’eem and comes and performs an Umrah.

As for men then, Alhamdulillah they do not menstruate so they do not take the ruling of the menstruating woman. The proof is, as some of the scholars of Seerah and history of the Companions, say: a hundred thousand Companions performed Hajj with the Messenger, not one of them did an Umrah the like of the Umrah of ‘Aeysha -Radhi Allaahu anha, so if that was something good then they would have proceeded us in that action. Therefore, the person who wants to perform an Umrah returns to the Meeqat and enters into Ihraam from there, whether for himself or for his mother and father.

This is sufficient and praise be to Allaah Lord of all the worlds.’

Dua’ for Increase in Knowledge – Compiled and translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Dua ‘ for Increase in Knowledge

Compiled & translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

 1 – Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr al-Assqalani (d.852 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Regarding the statement: ‘The saying of Allaah Azza wa Jal:

وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدۡنِي عِلۡمٗا

‘Rabbi Zidni Ilma’

<<O my Lord increase me in knowledge>>

This is a clear proof of the Excellence of knowledge. This is because Allaah Ta’ala did not order the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- with request for increase in anything except for an increase in knowledge.’

[From: ‘Fath al-Bari’ 1/141]

2 – Umm Salma Radhi Allaahu anha said, the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to say in the supplication in the morning prayer:

اللهم إني أسألك علماً نافعاً، ورزقاً طيباً، وعملاً متقبلاً

‘Allaahumma innee assaluka ilman nafia, wa rizzqan tayyeebun, wa amalan mutaqabilan,.’

‘O Allaah indeed I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and a good Halal provision, and actions which are accepted.’

[Collected by Tayalisee, Tabraani & regarded Hasan by Hafidh Ibn Hajr]

3 – From Anas bin Malik – Radi Allaahu anhu – that he heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- supplicating:

اللهم انفعني بما علمتني وعلمني ما ينفعني وارزقني علما تنفعني به

Allahumman fa’nee bi-maa ‘allam-ta-nee wa ‘allim-nee maa yanfa’u-nee war zuq-nee ‘ilman yanfa’u-nee

‘O Allaah benefit me with what You have taught me, and teach me that which will benefit me, and grant me knowledge which will benefit me.’

[Collected by al-Hakim, Bayhaqi, Tabraani & authenticated by Albaani in Silsilah No. 3151]

4 – Allaah Ta’ala said:

رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا حَسَنَةٗ وَفِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ حَسَنَةٗ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ

<< O our Lord give us good in this Dunyaa, and good in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of the fire  >> [2:201]

Al-Hasan said: al-Hasana (good) in the Dunyaa is knowledge and worship, and in the Hereafter it is Paradise.’

Sufyan said: ‘al-Hasana (good) in the Dunyaa is knowledge and good provision, and in the Hereafter Paradise.’

[From: ‘Lattaif al-Ma’arif p.302]

5 – Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Jafar said: ‘I heard Ibn Khuzaimah while he was asked: ‘Where did you get this knowledge from?’

He answered: ‘The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

ماء زمزم لما شرب له

Zam Zam water is what it is drank for.’

So, when I would drink Zam Zam water I would ask Allaah for beneficial knowledge.’

[From: ‘Tadhkiratul Huffadh’ 2/721]

Al-Hakim said: ‘I drank Zam Zam water and I asked Allaah that he grant me the ability to compile works of books in a good way.’

[From: ‘Tadhkiratul Huffadh’ 3/1044]

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr said: ‘Once I drank Zam Zam, and I supplicated to Allaah, at that time I was at the beginning of studying Hadeeth, I asked Allaah to grant me the status of Dhahabi in memorising Hadeeth.  Twenty years later I went to perform Hajj, and I found in myself the ability to surpass that rank, so I asked Allaah for a higher rank than before, and I hope that Allaah grants me that rank.’

[From: ‘Juz hadeeth (Mau Zam Zam lema shuriba lahu)’ p.191 – 192]

6 – Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The reality of the issue is that a slave of Allaah is in dire need of asking someone for knowledge and guidance, seeking and asking, then he remembers Allaah and of his dire need of Allaah, then Allaah guides and shows him.  Just as Allaah said:

يا عبادي كلكم ضال إلا من هديته فاستهدوني أهدكم

‘O My worshippers! All of you are astray except the one whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me and I will guide you.’
[Collected by Muslim]

And just as the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to say:

Allaahumma Rabba Jibreela wa Mikaa’eela wa Israafeel, faatir al-samawaati wa’l-ard, ‘aalim al-ghaybi wa’l-shahaadah, anta tahkumu bayna ‘ibaadika fima kaanu fihi yukhtalifoon, ihdini lima’khtulifa fihi min al-haqq bi idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha’ ila siraatin mustaqeem

‘O Allaah, Lord of Jibraeel, Mikael and Israfeel, You are the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the One who has all knowledge of the unseen and what is visible. You judge between Your worshippers in what they differ, guide me to the truth by Your permission in what they differ, indeed You are the One who guides whom You want to the straight path.’ [Collected by Muslim]

Discouraging from concentrating on satisfying the stomach, and having vast amount of food and drink being greedy and wanton

Discouraging from concentrating on satisfying the stomach, and having vast amount of food and drink being greedy and wanton

Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

1 – (2134) From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu– who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

المسلم يأكل في معى واحد والكافر في سبعة أمعاء

‘A Muslim eats for one stomach, and a non-Muslim eats for seven stomachs.’

[Collected by Malik, Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah and others. Albaani declared it Saheeh No.2134]

And in the narration of Bukhari:

‘There used to be a man who would eat a lot, then he accepted Islaam, and he would only eat a small amount, so this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-, so he said:

إن المؤمن يأكل في معى واحد وإن الكافر يأكل في سبعة أمعاء

‘Indeed the believer eats for one stomach, and indeed the non-Muslim eats for seven stomachs.’

And in the narration of Muslim he said:

‘That the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- hosted a non Muslim guest, so the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered for a goat to be milked and the guest drank its milk, then another one was milked and he drank its milk, then another one was milked and he drank its milk, until he had drunk the milk of seven goats!  Then in the morning he had accepted Islaam. The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered for a goat and the man drank its milk, then another but he could not finish it, so the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

إن المؤمن ليشرب في معى واحد والكافر يشرب في سبعة أمعاء

‘A believer drinks for one stomach, and the kaffir drinks for seven stomachs.’

[It was also collected by Malik and Tirmidhi, with similar wording]

2 –  (2135) From Al-Miqdad bin Ma’d Yakrib Radhi Allaahu anhu who said:

‘I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

ما ملأ آدمي وعاء شرا من بطن بحسب ابن آدم أكيلات يقمن صلبه فإن كان

لا محالة فثلث لطعامه وثلث لشرابه وثلث لنفسه

‘A human does not fill a more evil container than a stomach.  It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat small portions by which his back can remain straight.  If it is not possible, then he should reserve his stomach, a third for his food, third for his drink and a third for his breathing.’

[Collected by Tirmidhi and he declared it to be Hasan,  and by Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh. No.  2135]

3 – (2136)  From Abu Juhayfah Radhi Allaahu anhu who said:

‘I had eaten a broth made of bread and meat, then I came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and I began burping.  The Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

يا هذا كف عنا من جشائك فإن أكثر الناس شبعا في الدنيا أكثرهم جوعا يوم القيامة

‘O person!  Stop your burping, indeed majority of those people who are satiated and full from food in the Dunyaa, will be the hungry on the Day of Judgement.’

[Collected by al-Hakim and he said: Saheeh al Isnad & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh. No. 3136]

‘A human does not fill a vessel more evil than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat food that would keep his back straight. If it is inevitable (that he eats a full meal) then a third is for his food, a third for his drink and a third for air.’

The Encouragement to Fast Ramadan Seeking a Reward – Compiled and translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

The Encouragement to Fast Ramadan Seeking a Reward

Audio Excerpt: Miraath Publications – BiteSize Ramadhaan 1434 Articles – Day 05

1 – (992) – From Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
من قام ليلة القدر إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه ومن صام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه

‘Whoever prayed during the night of Laylatul – Qadr due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins. Whoever Fasts Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’

[Collected by Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nisa’ee, Ibn Majah & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh]

Al-Khattabi said: ‘The meaning of the Prophet’s saying: ‘due to Eemaan and seeking a reward’ means having the intention and a strong resolve, which is to fast Ramadan with certainty and desiring a reward for it. Wanting to make oneself better due to Ramadan, without disliking it, nor with feeling it burdensome due to fasting it, nor due to its long drawn out days, but rather taking opportunity of the many days of Ramadan for its great reward.’

Baghawi said: ‘The saying of the Prophet: ‘seeking a reward’ means seeking Allaah’s Face and His reward.’

2- (993) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said:
كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يرغب في قيام رمضان من غير أن يأمرهم بعزيمة ثم يقول
من قام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to encourage praying in the night during Ramadan, without ordering them to do so as an obligation, then he would say:

‘Whoever prayed during the night in Ramadan due to Eemaan and seeking a reward, then he is forgiven his previous sins.’

[Collected by Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nisa’ee & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh.]

Shaykh Albaani mentioned in the footnote:

‘This encouragement of having sins forgiven and those similar to it, are a clarification of the excellence of this type of worship, which is that if a person had sins then they are forgiven for him due to this type of worship. It is known that the means which lead to general forgiveness are many, so when these means are gathered/ combined, what can remain from those sins so that he needs to be forgiven?

So the purpose is a clarification of the excellence of this worship, that Allaah gives this worship this amount of excellence. If there was no sin upon a person, then this excellence is expressed in raising the rank of a person, the like of that which is rightful for the Prophets, who are infallible from committing sin. And Allaah knows best.’

3 – (994) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
الصلوات الخمس والجمعة إلى الجمعة ورمضان إلى رمضان مكفرات ما بينهن إذا اجتنبت الكبائر

‘The five daily prayers, from one Juma till the next Juma, from Ramadan to the next Ramadan, are an expiation for what takes place between them, as long as the major sins are kept away from.’

[Collected by Muslim]

4 – (998) – Abu Hurairah -Radhi Allaahu anhu- from the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:
إذا جاء رمضان فتحت أبواب الجنة وغلقت أبواب النار وصفدت الشياطين

‘When Ramadan comes in, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed and the Devils are locked up.’

[Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

In the narration of Muslim:
فتحت أبواب الرحمة وغلقت أبواب جهنم وسلسلت الشياطين

‘The doors of mercy are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the Devils are chained up.’

In the wording from Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah:
إذا كان أول ليلة من شهر رمضان صفدت الشياطين ومردة الجن وغلقت أبواب النار فلم يفتح منها باب وفتحت أبواب الجنة فلم يغلق منها باب وينادي مناد يا باغي الخير أقبل ويا باغي الشر أقصر ولله عتقاء من النار وذلك كل ليلة

‘When it is the first night of the month of Ramadan, the Devils are locked up and the evil Jinn, the doors of Hell-Fire are closed, so that no door from it is open. The doors of Paradise are opened, so no door from it is closed. A caller will call out: O seeker of good come forward, and O seeker of evil keep away from sin, and Allaah has slaves freed from the fire, and that is every night of Ramadan.’

[Albaani declared it Hasan]

5 – (1002) – It is narrated from Abu Saeed al-Khudri -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
إن لله تبارك وتعالى عتقاء في كل يوم وليلة – يعني في رمضان – وإن لكل مسلم في كل يوم وليلة دعوة مستجابة

‘Indeed Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- has freed slaves every day and night -meaning in Ramadan- and indeed every Muslim has every day and night a supplication that is answered.’

[Collected by al- Bazzar & Albaani declared it to be Saheeh lighayrihi.]

6 – 1003 – From Amr bin Murra al-Juhani -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said: ‘A man came to the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and asked: ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Do you see that if I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that you are the Messenger of Allaah, and I pray the five prayers, and I gave the Zakat, and Fast Ramadan, and prayed during its nights, so who will I be from?’

He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
من الصديقين والشهداء
‘From the righteous and the martyrs.’

[Collected by al-Bazzar, Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban & Albaani declared it Saheeh.]

What a Muslim does with death of his close relative who is a Mushrik? – Shaykh Al-Albaani

The Ahadeeth of Tawheed from the Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah of Shaykh Al-Albaani
Chapters of Tawheed and the Shahadtayn Part 14
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

37- What a Muslim does with his close relative who is a Mushrik And Abu Talib died upon Shirk

161- The Messenger of Allaah said to Ali bin Abu Ta lib: ‘Go and bury your father.’ He said; ‘No, I won’t bury him, because he died as a Mushrik.’

The Messenger said to him: ‘Go and bury him, and do n’t speak to anyone until you come to me. ‘I came to him and I had signs of dirt and dust upon me. He ordered me to wash, so I washed and he supplicated for me with supplications which would not please me to exchange anything for them on the face of this earth.

From the benefits of the hadeeth:

1. That it is permissible for a Muslim to take the responsibilities of burying his close Mushrik relative. This does not negate his hate for his relative’s shirk. Do you not see that ‘Alee refused to bury his father for the first time. Whereby, he said: ‘he died as a mushrik ‘ thinking that if he buried him then this would enter into being in alliance with his father which is pro hibited. Like the saying of Allaah Ta’ala: <<Take not as friends the people who incurred the Wrath of Allaah >>

When the Messenger ordered him again to bury his father he hastened to fulfill the Messenger’s order. And he left that which seemed to be correct to him the first time. It is also from obedience, that a person leaves his own opinion for the command of his Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

It appears to me that the son burying his mushrik father or his mother is the last of what the son possesses of good companionship wit h his mushrik father in this world. As for after the burial then it is not allowed for him to pray for him, nor seek forgiveness for him, this is due to the clear statement of Allaah Ta’ala: << It is not proper for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allaah’s Forgiveness for the Mushrikeen even though they be of kin >>

So, if this is the case, what is the situation of t he one who supplicates for mercy and forgiveness on the pages of newspapers and magazines for some of the kuffar , announcing their deaths, for a small amount of dirhams !

The one who is concerned for his hereafter should fear Allaah.

2- It is not legislated for him to wash the unbeliever, nor should he shroud him. And nor should he pray upon him even if he is a close relative, since, the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam did not order Alee to do so. If this had been permissible, the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam would have mentioned it, since delaying the explanation of an order when there is a need for it, is not permissible. This is the Madhab of the Hambalees and other than them.

3- It is not legislated for the relatives of that Mushrik to follow the funeral procession. Because the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam did not do this for his uncle. His uncle was the kindest and the most compassionate of the people to him. Even to the extent that the Prophet supplicated to Allaah for him, whereby his uncle’s punishment will be the least in the Hellfire, as has been previously explained.

And in all of this there is a lesson for those peop le who have been deceived by their ancestry, but they do not do any thing for their hereafter with their Lord, and Allaah the Great spoke the truth when He said: << There will be no kinship among them that Day, nor will they ask of one another. >>

The Bequest of Nooh (alayhi as-Salaam) to his Son at the time of his Death – Shaykh Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee

The bequest of Nooh – alayhi as-Sallam

134 – “When death was approaching the Prophet of Allaah Nooh -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – he said to his son: I will narrate to you my bequest; I command you with two things and prohibit you from two things. I command you with ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ (‘There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah) if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed upon a scale and ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ was placed on the other, then ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ would be heavier.

If the seven heavens and the seven earths were a closed off circle then ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ would be able to break it.

The second thing I command you with is Subhana Allaahi wa bihamdihi (Far is Allaah from imperfection and praise is for Him), since it is a supplication for everything, and by it the creation is given its provision. I prohibit you from shirk and pride.

( the narrator said: I asked or someone asked) : O Messenger of Allaah as for shirk then we know about it, but what is pride? Is it that one of us has sandals with two good straps?

The Messenger answered: No.

He asked again: is it that one of us has companions and they sit with him?

The Messenger again answered: No.

Someone asked: O Messenger of Allaah, what is pride?

He said: ridiculing the truth and belittling the people and reviling them.”

Silsilah Saheehah: 134

From the benefits of the hadeeth:

I say: there are many benefits from this hadeeth; I will suffice by indicating to some of them:

1- The permissibility of writing a bequest at the time of death.

2- The excellence of saying ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ and saying Subhana Allaah and that they are a cause for the creation to receive provision from Allaah.

3- The scales on the Day of Judgment are true and real, and they have two pans. This is from the belief of the ahl-ul Sunnah, opposing that of the Mu’tazilah and their followers in the modern times. Who do not believe that which has been affirmed regarding ‘Aqeedah in the authentic Ahadeeth, with the claim that these are Ahkbaar al-Ahad (singular narrations) which do not convey certainty. I have exposed this claim in my book ‘with ustaadh at-Tantawee’.

4 – The seven earths are like the seven heavens. There are many Ahadeeth regarding this in Bukharee and Muslim and in other books. Perhaps one day we will have time to follow up these Ahadeeth and research them. What supports these Ahadeeth is the saying of Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ aala : << It is Allaah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). >> I.e. they are similar in creation and in number.

So, you should not pay any attention to the one who explains it away, there by it ends up as a negation of similarity as well as in numbers, being deceived by the Europeans and where their knowledge has reached to, from having gone up in to space however they do not know of seven earths, along with that they do not know about seven heavens. Will we reject the speech of Allaah and the speech of His Messenger due to the ignorance of the Europeans and others along with them, declaring that the more they increase their knowledge of the universe, the more they increase in their ignorance of it. Allaah the Most Great has spoken the truth when He said : << And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little>>

5 – That beautification with good clothing has nothing to do with pride what so ever. Rather, it is a matter which is permissible, because Allaah is Beautiful and He loves beauty, like the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said regarding this issue, as is narrated by Muslim in his ‘Saheeh’.

6- Pride which has been equated with Shirk will not allow entrance in to Paradise for the one who has an equivalent of an atoms worth. That is the pride, which is rejecting the truth after it has been made clear, and defaming innocent people without truth. So, the Muslim should be extremely cautious from being characterized with this type of pride, just like he should be extremely cautious from being characterized with the Shirk which places its companion in the Hell-fire for eternity.

All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow his guidance

Abbas Abu Yahya delivers a Khutba at Masjid as Sunnah Cranford, The brother talks about the example of the companions and how they would send salutations upon the messenger (on whom be peace and blessings)

Allah, the Exalted, says:

“Allah exalts the mention of His Messenger (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) and His angels supplicate Him to do so. O you who believe! supplicate Allah to exalt his mention and to grant him safety and security.

`Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) saying:

Whoever supplicates Allah to exalt my mention, Allah will exalt his mention ten times. [Muslim].

Anas bin Maalik (radhi Allaahu anhu) said:  Verily the Prophet (salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

Whoever sends Salah upon me once Allah will send ten upon him and remove ten of his sins and raise his rank by ten levels.

The Terms ‘al-Munawarah’ and ‘al-Mukkarama’ – Shaykh Hamad al-Ansaari (rahimahullaah)

The Term ‘al-Munawarah’

Hamad al-Ansaari (rahimahullaah) said:

‘I searched for the origin of what people say these days of al-Madina ‘al-Munawarah’ and I found that the first people to label it ‘al-Munawarah’ were the ‘Uthmaanyoon’.  As for the Companions and the Successors and those after them, then for many centuries they called it al-Madina an-Nabaweeyah.’

AbdulAwal bin Hamad al-Ansaari commented:

‘I noticed from my father -Rahimullaah- that if he saw a person write ‘al-Munawarah’, he would say to him to wipe out the word ‘al-Munawarah’ and write ‘an-Nabaweeyah.’[28]

‘Indeed the people of knowledge apply the term ‘an-Nabaweeya’ to al-Madina.’[29]

The Shaykh also said:

‘Applying the word ‘al-Munawarah’ after the word al-Madina was introduced by the non-Arabs.  What was well known by the Companions and the Successors was the addition ‘an-Nabaweeyah’. Likewise, adding the term ‘al-Mukkarama’ to Makkah is not known.’[30]

The Encouragement in Islaam to Utilize the Land and to Till the Land (Must Read)

The Encouragement in Islaam to Utilize the Land  & to Till the Land
Taken from ‘Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah’
By the Muhaddith, Shaykh, Allamaa’ Muhammad Nasir uddeen al-Albaani
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

‘There are many Ahadeeth regarding this, I will mention a few of them:

7 – From Anas the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

‘There is no Muslim who plants a plant or a tree, or sows a seed and no bird, or human or animal eats from that except that it is a charity for that person.’

[Collected by Bukhari, Muslim & Ahmad]

8 – From Jabir from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

‘There is no Muslim who plants a plant or a tree, except that whatever is eaten from it is a charity for him.  Whatever is stolen from that is a charity for him.  Whatever is eaten from it by an animal is a charity for him.  Whatever a bird eats is a charity for him, no one suffers a loss except that it will be a charity for him till the Day of Judgement.’

[Collected by Muslim]

No. 9 – From Anas Radi Allaahu anhu from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

‘If the final hour comes and one of you has a small date-palm plant in his hand, and if you can plant it before you stand then plant it.’

‘Imam Bukhari brought a chapter heading in the previous book (al-Adab al-Mufrad) for this Hadeeth, where he said: ‘Chapter: The Production of Wealth’ then he narrated from al-Harith bin Laqeett who said:

‘There used to be a man from amongst us who would get his horse to reproduce, and then slaughter it. And he would say: ‘Why should I live so that I ride this thing? [i.e. The Day of Judgement is very close].’

Then a letter came to us from Umar:

‘You should cultivate and prosper with that which Allaah has provided you, since indeed in this regard there is enough time.’

Its chain is authentic.

Bukhari also narrated from Dawood with an authentic chain, who said: Abdullaah bin Sallam said to me:

‘If you hear that the Dajjal has exited and you are about to plant a small tree, then do not delay tending to cultivating it, because the people will have a sustenance from that later.’

And Ibn Jareer narrated from ‘Amaarah bin Khuzaimah bin Thaabit who said:

‘I heard Umar bin al-Khattab say to my father: ‘What prevents you from tilling your land?’

My father replied to him: ‘I am an old man and I may die tomorrow.’

So Umar said to him:

‘I swear that; indeed you must plant on your land.’

Indeed I saw Umar bin al-Khattab plant a plant or tree with his own hands along with my father.’

[From ‘al-Jamia’ al-Kabeer’ by Suyootee]

This is why some of the Companions used to regard a man who works on his land as a worker from the workers of Allaah – Azza wa Jal.

Bukhari narrated in ‘al-Adab al-Mufrad’ from Nafi’ bin ‘Aasim that he heard Abdullaah bin ‘Amr say to his nephew, when he was coming out of his [al-Waha] farm: ‘Are your workers doing their jobs?’

He replied: ‘I do not know.’

Abdullaah said: ‘As for me, if I was skilled and trained I would learn the job your workers do.’

Then he turned towards us and said: ‘Indeed if a person works along his workers in his home [and the narrator once mentioned: ‘with his wealth’]; then that person would be a worker from the workers of Allaah – Azza wa Jal.’

Its chain is ‘Hasan’ InshAllaah.

al-Waha’ in the Arabic  language means: a garden, and it was a very large piece of land which was owned by ‘Amr bin ‘al-Aaas in Taif about three miles from Wajja, and it seems he left it for his children.

Ibn ‘Aasakir collected in his book ‘Tareekh’ with an authentic chain from ‘Amr bin Dinar who said:

‘Amr bin al-Aaas entered a farm which he owned in Taif which was called al-Waha, it had a million stakes of wood [which were used to prop up the grapes], he had bought every stake of wood for a Dirham.’

These are some of the general benefits from those Ahadeeth from the Salaf as-Salih Radi Allaahu anhum.

Bukhari wrote a chapter heading in his ‘Saheeh’ for the first two Ahadeeth by saying:

‘Chapter: The excellence of growing plants if they are eaten from’

[Taken from ‘Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah’ vol. 1 hadeeth no 7-9 p.37-40]

Whoever truly wants to return to the Book and the Sunnah then it is necessary for that person to return to what the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- were upon, and the Ta’abeen (the successors of the Companions) and the successors of the Ta’abeen.’[2]

Allaah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala said:

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعۡ غَيۡرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصۡلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرًا

<< And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers – We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination. >> [3]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- commented saying:

‘Anybody who intends to be from the Firqat anNajjeeyha (the saved sect)[4] then it is necessary for that person to ascribe himself to the actions of what these people were upon, the Companions and the Ta’abeen and they are the Salaf asSalih whom we follow.

This issue, which is the obligation of following the Salaf asSalih is not an innovated, new matter but rather this is an obligatory matter which has been indicated to, rather it has been mentioned clearly for example in the statement of Allaah – Tabarak wa Ta’ala:

Indeed Allaah mentioned in this Ayaah a severe warning against opposing the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and contending with him then Allaah linked that by saying: << and follows other than the way of the believers>> and there is no doubt that the believers here, are those about whom Allaah –Tabaraka wa Ta’ala– warns the people from amongst the Muslims from opposing the path of the believers, there is no doubt that the believers are those whom were mentioned in the previous Ayaah from the Muhajreen and Ansaar, and those who followed them in goodness.

Indeed Allaah was pleased with them and they were pleased with their Lord. That path of the believers is the scale and measurement which distinguishes between the Muslim who ascribes himself by speech to the Book and the Sunnah, and then perhaps he opposes the Book and the Sunnah by not returning to that perfection, which prevents opposing the Book and the Sunnah and that is none other than adhering to what the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam were upon.’[6]

Who were the Salaf?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Salaf asSalih includes the three generations about whom the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- testified regarding their goodness in a Hadeeth whose authenticity is agreed upon.  Rather this Hadeeth has reached the level of Mutawwatir due its many chains in the Saheeh of Muslim and other than them from a great deal of the Companions, that the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

خير الناس قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم .

‘The best people are my generation then those who will come after them and then those after them…….’

So the three generations whose goodness has been testified are the ones who are intended by being the Salaf asSalih.’[7]

‘’Al-Qalshaani said:

‘The Salaf asSalih were the first generations deeply rooted upon knowledge, guided with the guidance of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, preservers of his Sunnah, Allaah Ta’ala chose them for the companionship of his Prophet. Allaah selected them to establish His Deen and was pleased with them to be the Imams of the Ummah, and they rightfully fought Jihad in the path of Allaah, they exerted themselves in advising the Ummah and benefiting them and they sacrificed themselves for the pleasure of Allaah.

Allaah praised them in His Book by saying:

مُّحَمَّدٞ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ

<< Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. >>[8]

And the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

<< For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allaah and [His] approval and supporting Allaah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful. >> [9]

Allaah Ta’ala mentioned the Muhajirun and the Ansar in the Ayaat, then he praised their followers, and He was pleased with those who came after them for following them.

Allaah promised those who opposed the Salaf and those who followed other than their way with punishment, Allaah said:

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعۡ غَيۡرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصۡلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرًا

<< And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers – We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.>>[10]

Therefore it is obligatory to follow them in that which they narrated, to follow their footsteps in that which they acted upon, and seeking forgiveness for them, Allaah Ta’ala said:

<< And those who came after them say: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.’ >>[11] ’[12]

‘’As-Safaarini (d. 1188 A.H) said:

‘The meaning of the Madhab of the Salaf is that which the noble Companions Radi Allaahu anhum were upon and the eminent ones from the Taba’een who followed the Companions in goodness, and those that followed them, and the Imams of the Deen from those who were testified as being Imams. Their great status was known from the Deen, and the people have accepted their speech generation after generation, without them having been accused of Bida’, or having become famous with a title which is not acceptable, the likes of the Khawarij, Rawafid, Qadareeyah, Murji’ah, Jabareeyah, Jahmaeeyah, Mu’atazilah, Karameeyah and those similar to them.’[13]

‘’Muhammad bin Ahmad as-Safaarini (d. 1188 A.H) also said:

‘The indication to the Madhab of the Salaf and a clarification of its reality, and that the Madhab of the Salaf is safer out of the other Madhahib[14], it is more knowledgeable and wiser, and they are the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun). Likewise the rest of the Companions of the chosen Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and those who followed them in goodness, and the Imams of guidance, they are those upon whom the Muslims agree regarding their guidance, their understanding, and their precedence, and taking them as an example and to follow them, and follow their way, and take the same methodology as them. Indeed Allaah –Subhana wa Ta’ala– sent His Prophet, His beloved and His Messenger Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- with guidance and the true Deen, to take the people out of darkness to light by the permission of their Lord to the praiseworthy, noble path. Allaah testified for him that He Himself sent the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- as a caller to Allaah with His permission and a guiding light and with His command, Allaah said:

هَٰذِهِۦ سَبِيلِيٓ أَدۡعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا۠ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِيۖ

<< This is my way; I invite to Allaah with insight, I and those who follow me. >> [15]’[16]

The Scholars of the Past & Present used the Terminology ‘Salaf

The Linguistic Meaning:

‘’Majd ad-Deen Ibn al-Atheer (d. 606 A.H.) said:

‘The Salaf of a person is the one who preceded in death from ones fathers, and those related to him; and this is why the first generation of the Taba’een were called the Salaf asSalih.’[17]

‘’Imam Muhammad bin Isma’eel al-Bukhari (d. 256 A.H.) said:

‘Rashid bin Sa’ad said: ‘The Salaf used to like the stallion from the camels because it would be faster on a journey.’[18]

‘’From Imam Muslim bin al-Hajjaj al-Nisapuree (d. 261 A.H.) in his ‘Saheeh’:

Ibn Mubarak used to say in front of large gatherings: ‘Leave ‘Amr bin Thaabit because he used to curse the Salaf, i.e. the Companions.’

‘’Imam Bukhari mentioned a chapter heading in his ‘Saheeh’:

Chapter: What the Salaf used to store in their homes and their journeys from food and meat.’

‘’AbdurRahmaan bin ‘Amr al-Aawza’i (d.156 A.H.) said:

‘Be patient upon the Sunnah, stop where the Companions stopped, and say what they said, and keep away from what they kept away from, and follow the way of your Salaf asSalih, since what is sufficient for them is sufficient for you.’[19]

Ascribing to the Manhaj of the Salaf

‘’Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘There is no blame on the one who manifests the Madhab of the Salaf, affiliates to it and ascribes to it, rather it is obligatory to accept that from him and that is accepted by agreement, because the Madhab of the Salaf is nothing except the truth.’[20]

‘’Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Uthmaan ad-Dhahabi (d.748 A.H.)

asSalafi [21]– is he who is upon the Madhab of the Salaf.’[22]

‘’ Salih bin Fawzan al-Fawzan said:

‘Indeed the Jamaah asSalafeeyah is the one which is upon the truth, and it is the one that it is obligatory to ascribe to, and act and attribute to, and whichever Jama’aat (parties) is upon other than Jama’ah asSalafeeyah then do not regard them as Jama’aat of Dawa’[23]

‘’Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

asSalafeeyah is following the methodology of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and his Companions, because he -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- is from our Salaf. The Companions are those who preceded us, therefore following them is Salafeeyah.’[24]

‘’Abdul Azeez bin Abdullaah Bin Baz (d. 1420 A.H.) said:

‘Indeed the Salaf are those of the best generations.  So whoever follows their footsteps and continues upon their methodology then he is a Salafi. Whoever opposes the Salaf in this methodology then he is from the Khalaf (those who oppose the Salaf).[25]

The Necessity of the Title ‘Salafeeyah’ to Distinguish from AhlulBida’

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Indeed all the sects, no matter how close or how far they are from the Book and the Sunnah, it is not possible for any one of them to say, ‘I am upon the Manhaj of the Salaf  -due to an excellence from Allaah – Azza wa Jal – except for those who embody the Manhaj of the Salaf asSalih in their Dawa’, Manhaj and manners. . .’[26]

‘’Ubayd bin Abdullaah al- Jabiree said:

‘So you do not find a Khalafee (one who opposes Salafeeyah), especially from those who ascribe themselves to the modern day Dawa’ groups, except that he hates the ascription to Salafeeyah.  Because Salafeeyah is not just an ascription, rather Salafeeyah is singling out pure sincerity for Allaah and singling out following the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’[27]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Why don’t the Salafeeyoon leave these titles?’

 ‘’Al-Albaani -Rahimullaah- answered:

‘If you leave off the ascription to so and so Hizb (party), and to such and such Hizb, and leave off the ascription to such and such Madhab (school of thought) then at that time we can say we are Muslims.  As for these names then they exemplify divisions in this Ummah due to current ideologies and biasness to Madhahib.

Therefore, there is nothing wrong, if we say: we will gather all these ascriptions into one ascription and this is not possible for anyone from those people (those who follow Madhahib and Ahazaab[28]) – if they have knowledge of the truth that they can dispute whether that the DawatusSalafeeyah is the true Dawa’ or not, and as proof for this we use the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

>> [29] ’[30]

Is Not Using the Title ‘Salafeeyah’ Praising Oneself?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘He does not understand the meaning of ‘Salafeeyah’ the one who says that this is praising oneself.

Salafeeyah means the correct Islaam, so the one who says: ‘I am a Muslim’ or ‘my Deen is Islaam’ is just like the one who says: ‘I am a Salafi….’[31]

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- said:

DawatuSalafeeyah wages war against alHizbeeyah (partisanship) in all its different forms.  The reason is very clear, DawatusSalafeeyah affiliates to a infallible individual, and he is the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, therefore, whosoever deviates away from these people (The Salaf) then we do not call him a Salafi.’[32]

‘’Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

‘Is it possible to be upon Salafeeyah in our modern times? Yes it is possible, we say that it is Salafeeyah in Aqeedah, even though it is not Salafeeyah as a time period, because the Salaf have preceded in time, however Salafeeyah are those who are upon the SalafeeyahAqeedah, ‘Aqeedah and action in the current time, and they are in respect to those after them, the Salaf.’[33]

Why the Ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah?

‘’Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:

‘Why the ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah, or a sect, or Madhab, or is it a new group in Islaam?’

He answered:

‘Indeed the word ‘as-Salaf’ is well known in the Arabic language, and in the Sharia’, and what is important to us here is the research from the Sharia’ point of view.  It has been authentically reported from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that he said to Sayyidah Fatima Radi Allaahu anhu during the illness from which he died:

فاتقي الله ، واصبري ، فإنه نعم السلف أنا لك

‘Fear Allaah and be patient, for indeed I am a blessed Salaf for you.[34]’

The scholars have used this word ‘asSalaf’ a lot, and it has been used so much more than can be enumerated, it is sufficient for us to use one example, and that is what we need to fight against Bida’:

كل خير في إتباع  من  سلف  وكل  شر في إتباع  من  خلف

Every good is in the following of the Salaf * and every evil is in the innovations of the Khalaf[35]

However, there are those who claim to have knowledge who reject this ascription, claiming that it does not have any foundation, so they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say ‘I am a Salafi’.  It is as if they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say: ‘I follow the Salaf asSalih of what they are upon of ‘Aqeedah, worship and manners!’

There is no doubt that this type of rejection – if this is what they mean – necessitates being free from the correct Islaam which our Salaf asSalih were upon, and at the head of them is the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- as is indicated in the Mutawatir Hadeeth which is in Bukhari, Muslim and in other books, from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

‘The best people are my generation then those who will come after them and then those after them.’

Therefore it is not allowed for the Muslim to free himself from the ascription to the Salaf asSalih, whereas if a Muslim freed himself from any other ascription, then it would not be possible for anyone from the people of knowledge to ascribe them to Kufr or Fasooq (openly sinning)[36].

And this person who rejects this ascription, don’t you see that he himself ascribes to a Madhab from the Madhahib?! Whether this Madhab was connected to ‘Aqeedah or to Fiqh?

So he is either an Ashaari or a Matroodi, or either he is from the AhlulHadeeth, or Hanafi, or Shafia’i, or Maliki, or Hanbali from those who enter into the title of AhlulSunnah wal Jammah. Even though he who ascribes to the Ashaari Madhab or to the four Madhahib then he ascribes to people who are without doubt not infallible, even though there are some from those scholars who are probably on the correct way, however I wish they had rejected the likes of these ascriptions to individuals who are not infallible.

As for the one who ascribes to the Salaf asSalih, then he ascribes to that which is in general infallible, and indeed the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- mentioned that from the signs of the ‘Firqat anNajeeha’ is that they adhere to that which the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam was upon and what the Companions were upon, so whoever adhered to it is with certainty upon guidance from his Lord.

Without doubt the clear, manifest, distinguished, evident proof of this title and ascription, which is to say: I am a Muslim upon the Book and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of our Salaf asSalih, and that is to summarise it by saying: ‘I am a Salafi’.’[37]

The Ascription to Other Jamaa’aat

Ascription to Naqshbandeeyah

‘This Tareeqa (way) ascribes itself to Muhammad Baha-uddeen Shah Naqshband.  The ascription for this Tareeqa[38] is from his name and it has became known with that. He was born in the village of Bukhara (717 – 791 A.H)’

‘He was given the title of Naqshband because of a print of the word ‘Allaah’ engraved upon the front of his heart, due to a lot of remembrance of Allaah.

It has been said he was called Naqshband, because the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- placed his noble palm on the heart of shaykh Muhammad Baha-uddeen al-Awaysee Naqshband, so it became engraved on his heart.’

‘Ahmad al-Farooqi as-Sarhindi (1034 A.H.) revived and spread the Tareeqa in India.’[39]

Ascription to Deobandeeyah

The definition of ‘Dar al-Uloom ad-Deobandeeyah’ according to them:

‘Dar al-Uloom is Muslim in their religion, of the AhlulSunnah wal Jammah sect, of a Hanafi Madhab, drinking hole is Soofeeyah, Matroodeeyah Ashaareeyah in philosophy, Chishteeyah in methodology, rather it gathers all the different succession of groups, Wali al-illaheyya in thought, Qasameeyah in principle, Rasheedeeyah as a subdivision, Deobandeeyah in ascription’[40]

‘’Sayyid Taalib ar-Rahman said:

‘ad-Deobandeeyah is a group from the Hanafis in the Indian Sub-continent and other places.  They follow the path of the Deoband University and their ascription is to this University, and that was to distinguish from their brothers ‘the Brailaweeyah’ one of the sects of the Hanafis, who ascribe to a Imam of Bida’, Ahmad Rida Khan al-Brialweeyah, who was born in the city of ‘Brieelee’ a city in the state of Uttra Pardesh in India in the year 1272 A.H. and died in the year 1340 A.H.

‘Deoband’ is a town in the state of Uttra Pardesh it achieved its fame due to the famous Islamic University called ‘Dar al-Uloom’ which was founded in 1283 A.H. and this University without doubt is regarded as a pride and honour for that town.

The fundamental aim of establishing this University was to support the Hanafi Madhab (School of thought) and spreading it, and to subjugate the Prophetic Sunnah and to make the Sunnah follow the Hanafi Fiqh, and there is no exaggeration in the reality of this point, since even the senior scholars of Deoband have acknowledged this.’[41]

‘’Muhammad Yusuf al-Banoori one of the leaders of the Deoband said explaining the way of the Deoband and their Madhab:

‘The way of the Deoband which their senior scholars are upon is the affirmation of the leadership of the Faqeeh of the Ummah, the Imam Abu Hanifah with respect to his Fiqh and his Ijtihad which has a lofty status in the pure Sharia’ after the noble Prophetic Hadeeth.

And it is necessary to have the sciences of Soofeeyah and sciences of purification of the hearts which is transmitted by its people, and it needs to be blended with the Sharia’ in a correct way.

They acknowledge the magnificence of Ibn Taymeeyah’s[42] status but at the same time they acknowledge the greatest Shaykh Muhiddeen ibn Arabi[43] with his book ‘Kamallat’.  So we have Taqleed of the Imam Abu Hanifah, and follow the Prophetic Ahadeeth along with the sciences of the Soofeeyah, and what is made up of this blend of three is the magnificent Madhab[44], which is none other than the Madhab of the sect Deobandeeyah.’[45]

Ascription to Jama’at Tableegh

The Founder of Jama’at Tableegh

‘’Abdullaah bin Mubarak al-Qahtani said:

‘Muhammad Ilyaas al-Kandalawi is regarded as the founder of the Tableeghi sect and he was the one who made the fundamental principles for the sect. Muhammad Ilyaas took it in turn and acquired it from Sa’eed an-Nursi who was called Badeea’ az-Zaman an-Nursi[46] (1293 A.H. – 1379 A.H.) in Turkey. So the foundation of the ideology was from Turkey, and it grew and was brought up and implemented and propelled from India.’[47] [48]

Ascription to Soofeeyah

‘’Salih bin Fawzan al-Fawzan was asked:

‘What is the ruling of ascribing to the Soofi Madhab, and do we make Takfeer (excommunication) of the Soofeeyah?’

He answered:

‘It is not allowed to ascribe to an innovated Madhab of the Soofeeyah, or other than the Soofeeyah. It is not allowed for the Muslim to follow the Mubtadia’ (the innovators) whether from the Soofeeyah or other than the Soofeeyah, but rather he has to follow the Madhab of the AhlulSunnah.  It is not possible for the Muslim to follow the Madhab of AhlulSunnah except if he learns and knows the Madhab of AhlulSunnah and knows the Madhaahib of the Mubtadia’, and this is not possible except with knowledge.

As for the ignorant person, then it is not possible for him to keep away from the Madhaahib of the Mubtadia’ because he does not know who they are, and perhaps he deems them as being appropriate and thinks that they are good, therefore ignorance is corruption and an illness.

The Soofeeyah are not all of the same grades, there are those from them who reach to the level of Shirk, and from them are those who are only Mubtadia’, and from them there is the one who is a Mushrik, who makes Dua’ to the dead rather than to Allaah, and who seeks aid from graves, and who makes Dua’ to his Shaykhs and believes that they can benefit him or harm him, and that they control the universe.

The Soofeeyah are of different types, they are not just one type.  Some of them are just Mubtadia’, and some of them are Mushrikoon.  Some of them are apostates, and they are the AhlulWahdatulWajood (those who believe in unity of existence) those who are upon the Madhab of al-Hallaj, Ibn Arabi, Ibn Saba’een and Talmasaani, and they are the ones who are extremists in their Kufr (disbelief) of the people on this earth the people of WahdatulWajood (those who believe in unity of existence). Likewise are the Mushrikoon who supplicate to other than Allaah, were they supplicate to their Shaykhs and their chiefs, they also supplicate to the dead, and they turn for help to graves, and this is Shirk.’[49]

The Stance of the Scholars of AhlulSunnah against the Ascription to the Soofi paths

The Fatwa of ‘Lajna Daeema lilbahooth al-Ilmeeyah wal-Iftaa’[50]

The question:

There is a (Soofee path) way which is ascribed to Shaykh Abdul Qadir and Abul-Hasan ash-Shaadhlee, is there a problem if a person joins it and ascribes himself to it and is it Sunnah or Bida’?

The Answer:

‘The Hadeeth collected by Abu Dawood and other than him from the collectors of the Sunnan from Al-Irbadh bin Sariah who said: the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. We said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so advise us.’

He sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallamsaid:

أوصيكم بتقوى الله ، والسمع والطاعة ، وإن تأمّر عليكم عبد ؛ فإنه من يعش منكم فسيرى اختلافا كثيرا ، فعليكم بسنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين ، عضّوا عليها بالنواجذ ، وإياكم ومحدثات الأمور ، فإن كل بدعة ضلالة

‘I advise you to fear Allaah and to hear and obey even if a slave becomes your leader. Verily he among you who lives [long] will see great differences, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Khulafah – cling to them stubbornly. Beware of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a going astray.’[51]

The Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned that there will occur many differences in his Ummah, and they will branch off into paths and methodologies, and there will occur many Bida’ and superstitions amongst them.

The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered the Muslims to adhere to the Book of Allaah and to hold onto his Sunnah and to bite onto it with the molar teeth, and warn them against dividing up and differences, and following Bida’ and superstitions because it is misguidance and straying which causes the one who follows these paths to separate away from the Path of Allaah, so Allaah advised them with what He advised His slaves with the saying of Allaah Subhanahu:

وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعٗا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْۚ

<< And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. >>[52]

and the saying of Allaah:

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطِي مُسۡتَقِيمٗا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ ٱلسُّبُلَ
فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمۡ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ وَصَّىٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ

<< And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)>>[53].

So we advise you with the advice of Allaah and the advice of His Messenger, and we advise you to adhere to the Manhaj of AhlulSunnah walJama’, and we warn you against what the people of these Soofi paths who innovated Soofeeyah and innovated supplications and remembrance which is not legislated and supplications which contain Shirk with Allaah or that which leads towards Shirk, like seeking refuge with other than Allaah, remembering Allaah with single names (i.e. like saying ‘Allaah hu’ etc.), and remembering Allaah using the word ‘Aah’ which is not from His –Subhanahu– Names, and how they seek closeness to their Shaykhs by making Dua’ through them, and they believe that their Shaykhs are spies of the hearts and they know what will occur in the future. Their remembrance of Allaah as a collective remembrance with one unison voice in gatherings while swaying & dancing around with AnNasheed (musical songs), along with other things which are not known from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’[54]

All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his Family, his Companions and all those who  follow his guidance

[42] This is their claim but in reality they oppose Ibn Taymeeyah’s Aqeedah, Manhaj & his works.

[43] Some statements about Ibn Arabi:

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ahmad bin AbdulHaleem Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘…these Philosophers perhaps thought that [Angel] Jibra’eel is an imaginary thought which formed itself in the Prophet’s -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- soul, and imagination follows the intellect. Then came along the Mulahidah ([Atheists] – Those who either reject the existence of Allaah or reject the resurrection), who associated and participated with these Mulahidah al-Mutafalsifah ([Atheistic philosophers] – those who combine the Sharia’ with Greek Philosophy), and they claimed that they were the ‘Awaliyaa (Friends) of Allaah, and that the ‘Awaliyaa of Allaah are better than the Prophets of Allaah, and that they take from Allaah without having an intermediary [like Angel Jibra’eel] like Ibn ‘Arabi…. Indeed Ibn ‘Arabi and his likes, even if they claim to be from the Soofeeyah, but they are from the Soofeeyah Mulahidah al-Mutafalsifah and they are not from the Soofeeyah people of knowledge, let alone being from the Mushaykh of the people of the Book and the Sunnah…’ [Fatawa 11/232]

Ibn Taymeeyah also said:

‘… and the issue with the Mulahidah al-Mutasoweefah  ([Atheistic Soofees] – Those who either reject the existence of Allaah or reject the resurrection) like Ibn ‘Arabi and his likes – was such that they reached to the level were they regarded everything in existence as one. So they regarded the existence of the Creator is the actual existence of the creation [i.e. the Creator and the creation are one and the same thing], and this is cancelling out the Creator.’ [Dura Ta’arad 5/4]

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Uthmaan ad-Dhahabi (d.748 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘Indeed the one who ponders over the statements of Ibn ‘Arabi in his book ‘Fasoos’ is one of two people; either from the al-Iteehaadeeyah (those who believe that Allaah is a part of His creation, in union with His creation) inwardly, or from those who truly believe in Allaah and regard [Ibn ‘Arabi & his likes] this sect to be from the most extreme in disbelief.’ [Meezan al-I’tidaal 3/659]

[44] Which opposes the way of the Salaf.

Writing ‘Ya Allaah & Ya Muhammad’ – Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadee

by Rabee’ ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The Question:

A lot of what we see in certain Masajid is ‘Ya Allaah & Ya Muhammad’ (O Allaah & O Muhammad) written on the Mihrab, is it permissible to pray in the likes of these Masajid?

The answer:

This is clear from what we have seen in Pakistan and Afghanistan – with great regret – I swear by Allaah we saw this written in the cars of the Mujahideen; actually those who claim to be Mujahideen! And they would not accept any advice, they would continue upon these aspects of Shirk! You would see it written in their shops and their Masajid: ‘Ya Allaah, Ya Ali, Ya Ghawth, Ya Hussain, Ya AbdulQadir, Ya such and such!!’ as well as other aspects of Shirk!

Seeking aid from other than Allaah is Shirk; by saying ‘Ya Muhammad’, then this is committing Shirk with Allaah (associating partners to Allaah). Muhammad was the Messenger of Allaah, the slave of Allaah and His Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam. Therefore, if one says ‘Ya Allaah and Ya Muhammad’, then that person has made Muhammad as an equal to Allaah Tabaraka wa Ta’ala.

The Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- did not come except to destroy this polytheism, and to rectify the deviated nation and at the head of what they had was committing Shirk (associating) with Allaah -Azza wa Jal. The Messenger came to purify the Dunyaa, the hearts, the minds and intellects from Shirk with Allaah –Azza wa Jal- and the filth connected with Shirk.

He –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- taught us pure Tawheed with the texts of the Qur’aan, the texts of the Sunnah and practically implementing them. He –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- ordered us to level the graves, and to destroy idols.

The Messenger –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- said:

‘Do not undertake journeys except to three Masajid – only these, not to graves, nor any place [for worship] – the Masjid al-Haraam, and this masjid of mine, and Masjid al-Aqsa.’

This is because these Masajid were built by the Prophets for the Tawheed of Allaah having Ikhlaas (Sincerity) of the Deen for Allaah – Azza wa Jal.

This action of writing ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ began in al-Madinah – since we know these things we can evaluate it – we knew the plots of the Ahl-ul-Bida’.

There was a man named Siraaj Rahman a colleague of mine in the University and he was from the students of Abul-Hasan an-Nadawi – I don’t know whether – I saw this in Kenya or a story had been narrated to him that this had begun to spread in al-Madinah. Anyway, he mentioned that Abul-Hasan an-Nadawi said the statement: ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ and this is disbelief, what they mean by this is that Muhammad is a partner to Allaah –Azza wa Jal; Allaah & Muhammad are equal.

There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; this is the highest status for this Noble Prophet –alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam.

The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

‘Do not over praise me, like the Christians over praised the son of Maryam. Indeed I am a slave of Allaah and His Messenger.’

I have seen this clearly and I would have waged war against it, and if I saw it in a Masjid I would advise the Imam of the Masjid. Likewise in Masjid al-Qiblatayn – Masjid al-Amoodi -, I spoke to the Imam, but he did not do anything! So I spoke to al-Amoodi who was responsible for the Masjid, and he hastened – may Allaah reward him with goodness- and effaced these things.

And in the Masjid near my home in al-Madina they had written ‘Allaah & Muhammad’ so I advised the Imam and he said: ‘we will change it, we will change it.’ But he kept postponing it and did not change it! There was a good young man present who said: ‘I’ll sort it out.’ Then he went and covered it, and that was the end of that, and all praise be to Allaah.

One day I was coming from Batthan and entered Madinah and there was a pickup truck in front of me and it had ‘Ya Allaah Ya Muhammad’ written on it in red. So I followed him and he began speeding up, he noticed that I was following him, so he began to speed up even more, so I gave chase and pursued him until we reached Qurban, he stopped his car and got out and said to me: ‘Shall I wipe it off?’ and I hadn’t even spoken to him yet! He knew and felt this is what I was pursuing him about, so I told him ‘Yes, wipe it off.’

This confirms that there is a battle going on, the battle of these grave worshipping deviants in the land of Tawheed!

The Deception of the Shaytaan of the Soofeeyah – Compiled & Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751) -Rahimullaah- said:

‘And how good is what Abu Ahmad ash-Shayrazi said:

‘The Soofeeyah used to ridicule Shaytaan and now the Shaytaan ridicules them! !’

[Taken from: ‘Ighaatul al-Lafaan Fee Massaeed ash-Shaytaan’ with the checking by Shaykh Albani Vol. 1 p.241]

The Deception of the Shaytaan of the Soofeeyah

Shaykh Muhammad Hamid al-Faqee -Rahimullaah- comments on the statement of Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimullaah- when he spoke about the deception of the Shaytaan of the Soofeeyah, when he Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimullaah- said:

‘The Shaytaan caused them to buzz around (dance) and to beat/strike the ground whizzing around on their feet, then sometimes he makes them like donkeys going around a pivot, and sometimes like insects dancing  in the middle of the house…’

Shaykh Muhammad Hamid al-Faqee said:

‘The Shaykh (Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimullaah) intends the Mutasawwafa (Soofeeyah) who form into circles, then stand up in those circles and dance and swing from side to side to the tune of singing and musical instruments.  They shout, scream and dance together with what they call Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah), rather it is sinfulness, disobedience and the remembrance of Shaytaan, may Allaah guide them and free them and free Islaam from those evils and crimes.’

[Taken from: ‘Ighaatul al-Lafaan Fee Massaeed ash-Shaytaan’ with the checking by Shaykh Albani Vol. 1 p.409]

How the Shaytaan Deceived the People that Whistling and Clapping is Prayer

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751) -Rahimullaah- speaks about the Ayaah
<<Their prayer at the House (of Allaah) was nothing but whistling and clapping of hands. >> [Anfal: 35] and how the Shaytaan deceived the people that whistling and clapping is prayer.

Ibn al-Qayyim quotes: ‘Ibn Arafah and Ibn al-Ambaari who said: ‘that whistling and clapping is not prayer. . .’

Shaykh Muhammad Hamid al-Faqee commented on this by saying:

‘In reality this is not prayer, Allaah called it prayer because they used to whistle and clap in their thundering movements to the tunes of whistling and clapping, since they intended by it a means of coming closer to Allaah, so Allaah reprimanded them and criticized them, and Allaah clarified that He does not love that, He does not reward them for it except with a painful punishment.

And that whistling and clapping (of the polytheists) is like what takes place in the gatherings of the Soofeeyah of our time, like for like; dancing movements to the tune of whistling and clapping. Their deep-rooted desires beautified this, likewise their ignorance and the Shayateen from the men and Jinn, beautified this to make them think that it is Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) and worship!!

Allaah is far from this.’

What a Muslim does with his close relative who is a Mushrik – Shaykh Al-Albaani

The Ahadeeth of Tawheed from the Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah of Shaykh Al-Albaani
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

161- The Messenger of Allaah said to ‘Alee bin Abu Talib: ‘Go and bury your father.’

He said; ‘No, I won’t bury him, because he died as a Mushrik.’

The Messenger said to him: ‘Go and bury him, and don’t speak to anyone until you come to me.’

I came to him and I had signs of dirt and dust upon me. He ordered me to wash, so I washed and he supplicated for me with supplications which would not please me to exchange anything for them on the face of this earth.

From the benefits of the hadeeth

1- That it is permissible for a Muslim to take the responsibilities of burying his close Mushrik relative. This does not negate his hate far his relative’s Shirk.

Do you not see that ‘Alee refused to bury his father the first time. Whereby, he said: ‘he died as a Mushrik‘ thinking that if he buried him then this would enter into being in alliance with his father which is prohibited. Like the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

<<Take not as friends the people who incurred the Wrath of Allaah >>

When the Messenger ordered him again to bury his father he hastened to fulfill the Messenger’s order. And he left that which seemed to be correct to him the first time. It is also from obedience, that a person leaves his own opinion for the command of his Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

It appears to me that the son burying his Mushrik father or his mother is the last of what the son possesses of good companionship with his Mushrik father in this world. As for after the burial then it is not allowed for him to pray for him, nor seek forgiveness for him, this is due to the clear statement of Allaah Ta’ala:

<<It is not proper for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allaah’s Forgiveness for the Mushrikeen even though they be of kin>>

So, if this is the case, what is the situation of the one who supplicates for mercy and forgiveness on the pages of newspapers and magazines for some of the Kuffar, announcing their deaths, for a small amount of Dirhams!

The one who is concerned for his hereafter should fear Allaah.

2- It is not legislated for him to wash the unbeliever, nor should he shroud him. And nor should he pray upon him even if he is a close relative, since, the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam did not order ‘Alee to do so. If this had been permissible, the Prophet– sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam would have mentioned it, since delaying the explanation of an order when there is a need for it, is not permissible.

And in all of this there is a lesson for those people who have been deceived by their ancestry, but they do not do any thing for their hereafter with their Lord, and Allaah the Great spoke the truth when He said:

<< There will be no kinship among them that Day, nor will they ask of one another >>
